This experience confirms what I'm seeing more and more. People don't sell their good stuff on Ebay, they use it to dispose of unwanted items at above market prices.

Chris, yes, sometimes they do, and it is not honest of them at all, unless they are up front about the details, I once watched a episode of Judge Judy's Court room, she once said, she would not buy something she wanted or was interested in unless she could see it in person and I guess examine it there and then she can make up her mind, I agree it is the safest way, less or no issues or surprises this way.

TALK ABOUT COMMITMENT! Cross Country when gas was 4 bucks a gallon here in Texas, I'm sure it was lot more in LA and Chicago.

5 volts filament? 5 volts is insufficient to get an accurate assessment of CRT value if the tube has hours on it. 5.8 is the minimum test voltage for "life test".

Doesn't matter anyway, even at 6.3, it isn't even close to pegging the scales. It was supposed to be near NOS, it clearly isn't.

Looks like the CTC-15 has the same control layout as the CTC-12. If I was a jerk, I would have bought the CRT tester with me. Meanwhile, I have a roundie here that nobody seems to want. I don't have the tools to restore it myself.

so did you offer him a reduced price for the set .cause of the high hours crt .what was he asking for the set originally.

Not NOS. More like POS. I sure hope that you got a discount of the purchase price because of the failing CRT. I went through a load of colour TV's saved from the dump. With the old 90 degree delta-gun CRT's it was a failing red gun every time. I would play around with the A1 pre-sets and often watch TV with the curtains closed. Then i'd move on when the set developed other faults. Getting the CRT re-gunned was theoretically an option. Lack of cash and not having a crosshatch generator to set the convergence meant it really wasn't a viable option.

Don't tell me you went from LA to Chicago for a CTC 15. I never liked that chassis. The 11 and 16 were my favs.
