@@ScottGraham No - presuming your definition of copy is clone (ie. parts close to 100% interchangeable) which they clearly are not. The E180 is a completely different helicopter & design, not a single interchangeable part between it or the M2 beside some screws that are the same size. If your definition of copy is "using the same technology" (direct drive); then yes. With that reasoning however, the OMP M2 is a copy of the SAB Mini Comet & Fireball, and SAB copied the Hitec/Multiplex Funcopter from a decade ago.

Thank you so much for your view on this helicopter. I ordered one and really like the performance of this little helicopter. I was checking to see if anyone that you know has had problem ordering and receiving parts for this helicopter. When I ordered the helicopter it was on back order and took a while to receive, and if I order parts they are also on back order and sometimes they have canceled the orders due to taking so long for the parts to be shipped. My 180 has been down, due to the difficulty of ordering parts and receiving them because of back ordering issues.

Fantastic channel! Just subbed & bought your e-book. In just 2 of your YT videos & a glance of your e-book, my whole RC heli mindset has done a 180. I have 2 Nano S3's and a Blade 230S V2. The B230 has been a bear and after watching your vids, I'm convinced my NX 10 is not set properly. I just re-entered the hobby after a 13 year hiatus so I'm almost starting back at scratch. Everything went to DSM, I left during the 72Mhz era. Plus many other changes of course. Definitely watching your channel and I see a couple of helis I like which I'll get when I get more proficient with what I already have..

Man, I consider Eachine a good brand and when you took that head apart and showed all the loose stuff, stuff installed backwards, no oil/grease, etc that's shocking. Reminds me of my Walmart gravel bike where not a single thing was torqued down at all or adjusted right (including the brakes) and was essentially a death trap. You ain't kidding about taking apart RTF stuff right away to inspect it!! Edit: Just realized this was a testing unit with no QC, but still...

I just picked up the BNF version. Took apart the head and all parts were bone dry. Reassembly was done with red grease for GM cars, lol. After the greasy festival, I used light weight lube for the swashplate and other little parts. BTW, the blades were soo tight and that was fixed. I do need to use locktite on head assembly, I had to test before hand. AND it seems to be awesome! More to come....

@eric coker - I've actually had an E150 sitting on the shelf for the past 2 going on 3 months to review. The review is actually all finished except the flying portion. The ESC as well went up in a puff of smoke in the first 30 seconds of the first flight. Trying to get a replacement ESC for it has been murder here in Canada. Not sure if it's due to the chip shortage or something else? BG has put an order in for me direct from Eachine, but I have still not seen a thing. For the first 30 seconds however, like you mentioned, it was pretty impressive from the little bit of air time I had on it. Not enough air time to tell if it was up to the M1's amazing feel.

@@Rchelicopterfun I actually had a few flights, mostly 6G mode and out the box it was #1 with the XK K100 right behind it with the 6G stability, they both hovered like it had GPS. And the same held true for agility mode on both... All my Blade helis left alot to be desired in 6G mode, 230s (even with forward programming) still drifts slightly backwards. The Nano S3 and Mcpxbl2 all drift forwards in stability mode. BUT in agility mode with everything checked and adjusted, they fly good. Point being, BLADE HELIS are solid in the electronics area in stability mode even if the smaller models have alot slop with blade grips and swashplates.

I finally got the E150 working good, actually just as rock solid as the E180. I followed your E180 process with regards to the head assembly on the E150. I also purchased the flight control shock absorber! 4 dollars for a similar mount with the added dual sided sticky foam. I guess it absorbs vibration. And its works.

John. Mine was all good across the rotor head in terms of assembly and loctite - absolutely zero play in the follower arms. I did go for a blue loctite on the black follower arms bolts. I disassembled it all to have a close look at the bearings etc in the follower arms Feathering shaft loctited both ends and no issues with back to front bearings but no lube either. My M2 was dry in the blade grips as well I did not find a single fault with assembly across every screw. My sole assembly criticism was the main blades where snugged down to tight

I've never been a fan of helicopters without collective pitch tail rotors but this one seems to be doing pretty well

Pretty much all the smaller (under 250 size) brushless direct drive fixed pitch tail rotor helis on the market these days have excellent tail hold and authority. You can still pick up on very slight acceleration thrust delays, but it's worlds apart from what it used to be like with brushed or coreless tail motors.

It's great to see the direct drive motor going into more machines. Say Goodbye to bags full of Delrin drive gears. Makes me wonder about how big you could go with a direct drive system... I ,for one, love a big can ;)

Yes, good question on max size of a direct drive arrangement. Largest so far is a 300 (Goblin Mini Comet & Fireball), because more torque is needed at lower head speeds the larger we go. Perhaps smaller lightweight built in or shaft mounted planetary gear sets could be utilized?

The motor would have to have enough torque to turn the mast and at that point, probably a belt driven tail. Great idea though. I love the thought of a all in one motor and transmission.

months ago I visited a small company that makes industrial drones. Founder showed me a prototype direct drive helicopter that he made. I cannot say much information cause it's kind of secret, but what I can say is it was using 600 size blades.(huge) I heard it had first test flight few days ago.

You can set lower head speeds on pretty much any collective pitch RC helicopter with your throttle curves or governed speeds. All depends how you want it to fly and how much rotor energy you want.

@KThrash - I'll consider doing something like that with OpenTX; I'll have to look at the internet search volume to see if it's worthwhile. It's not just flybars, it would also apply to any FBL system that doesn't do the electronic swash mixing internally such as the original Align 3G and 3GX units. Mechanical CCPM mixed helicopters however with flybars would be setup the same in OpenTX as they would be for a FBL heli with internal FBL electronic mixing. Of course, that's not what the flybared HK450 uses, it uses 120 degree eCCPM mixing. With all that said, have you already studied the heli setup section in OpenTX University's web site? That site is what I used (and still reference often) when I got into OpenTX and I use their exact helicopter foundation for all my helicopters (flybar & flybarless, mechanical and electronically mixed). They clearly layout what's involved in setting up a flybared eCCPM helicopter in their helicopter section.

Hi John, nice review on the E180. I prefer my M1 and M2 and my setup on those too are quite aggressive also. I’m finally getting on how the setup goes with my TX16S tho my is running on EdgeTx. Out of curiosity, would you share your otx file on your E180? I just want to load it in my PC so I can learn how you setup your HELI with all in one unit. It accepts SBUS so as long as one of those radio brands you have also has an available micro SBUS receiver (6ch or better) it will work. If they don't it won't. I'm pretty sure there are micro SBUS RX's out there for pretty much every radio brand under the sun, but since I have no experience with either Jeti or FlySky, I can't give a 100% confirmation.

Perhaps you are hearing the tail rotor? On these direct drive helis, you really hear the tail rotor screaming because there is no main shaft gear whine to mask it.

How does this compare with the Blade 230? This ones seems it has higher quality parts, aka aluminum as it appears compared with plastic for the Blade. Looking to finally move up to a CP Heli and want and trying to decide. Great video btw, thx!

@ Ron Steurer The Blade is slightly larger and doesn't use a direct drive main shaft motor which is the single biggest difference between the two. Nothing wrong with plastic parts by the way on entry level CP helicopters. They weigh less and act as mechanical fuses when you crash which goes a long way to save servos, shafts, and other more costly components. Plastic replacement parts also cost less. In terms of quality, the E180 is decent, but the OMP Hobby M2 would be my pick if build & component quality are your primary considerations. If after sales & local hobby shop support is your primary consideration, it's hard to beat any Horizon Hobby Blade products because they are carried at so many hobby shops world wide.

@tommycruz100 - yes it will, no problem. Uses the same Futaba S-FHSS protocol; in fact, the E6 radio is essentially the same radio as the X6 with just a few external cosmetic differences.

@Aariz Mushtaq - any decent collective pitch RC helicopter paired with a computerized radio can be a good trainer with a tame learning to fly setup & training gear fit. The E180 or E150 can both be equally as good for learning on. The general rule of thumb is the "bigger the better". That comes with the caveat that it's not too big for your flying area (if you have a small area, stick with a smaller heli); you can legally fly it in your area (many over 250g restrictions now); and you can afford the price increase (both in parts & LiPo's). Also, the bigger the heli, the more damage that occurs during a crash due to increased mass & energy release so that has to be considered as well. What do you do if the screw in the head axle is stripped? (not the threads, the end of the screw where the hex screw driver goes in. It was stripped out when I got it and I can't disassemble the head)

I cover various methods of removing rounded out (cammed out) fasteners in my Setup & Tips for RC Helicopter eBook in chapter 11 (pg's 145 to 148) if you have that eBook. Likely have to drill the head off the fastener and replace the head axle, but you could try one of the other methods as well. Really depends how badly it's rounded/cammed out and how strong the loctite is.

Hey John, good review. I'm like you with the wash out arm, don't like it. On my E160 the brass bushing in the wash out arm worn thin quickly and produced a ton of slop eventually causing the main rotor to lag (bind up enough) behind the tail causing a crash. That was after 70 flights with mild 3d. Now I can't get the wash out arm parts. The dreaded crash and wait forever! :(

Good video, as always very informative. At 18.20 : "Way over charged". Really? LiPo batteries must be quite the fuzz pots, real prim-a-donnas. Four hundreds of a volt high, is over charged?

Really - very much so. Termination voltage is critical in their life expectancy and has a direct correlation. Lots of studies have been done in the cell phone industry on this and even in our hobby over the past decade +. Many even consider 4.2V too high and will limit their chargers to 4.18 or even a bit lower. 4.15 if you really want to play it safe. Also depends on other factors of course - amount of time left in that overcharged state & ambient temperature, a for example.

@Steve Snoen - Yep, there is much more to LiPo care than most first realize; I even state something similar on my LiPo battery care page on my website - the single longest article I have on my entire site: www.rchelicopterfun.com/lipo-batteries.html So much to cover... To be honest, with these little inexpensive $20 LiPo packs, most don't care if they are not treading them with the "prim-a-donna" care they need for maximum life expectancy, but once you are into bigger machines where you are shelling out $150 plus for a single battery pack, you quickly learn how expensive it can get when you don't treat them with the care they need. I'm perhaps overly sensitive to this because I destroyed a $250 Thunder Power LiPo in my first big electric heli the very first time I flew it, after years of flying nitro. After a single costly mistake like that, you very quickly learn anything & everything you can about LiPo care. Over a decade later, I'm still learning 🙂

You didn't like the USB charger (quite understandable give the high cell voltage) but you trust that cheap cell voltage tester? Have you verified how accurate that cell volt meter is against an accurate multimeter? Keep the great rc reviews. Cheers!

Of course I have checked them, and I most certainly "trust" their readings. I've got a half dozen or so of those AOK LiPo cell voltage testers from Buddy RC: www.buddyrc.com/products/aok-digital-battery-meter?ref=-ptdbz6d-llb&variant=30735566405718 It's nice to have several so they are always handy. I usually have at least two my field box, and others lying around the work bench, charging stations, basically everywhere I need to test LiPo's or LiFe's. Every single one is bang on to what my Fluke multimeters show for open circuit voltage. Those little AOK's of course have one less decimal place resolution than my Fluke or other quality 4000 and higher count DMM's, but they always round up or down the second place well. I use them because they are super convenient, small, easy to read, and easy to check the voltage of each cell. Been using them years and they work a treat and I will continue to use them because they are accurate and "cheap". I'm personally not keen on dragging a large expensive DMM out to the flying field to have it stolen.

OMP M2 or GooSky S2 are my preference for the simple reason parts support is better at more places, but nothing wrong with the E180 V2 if you don't mind future parts support hassles and the rather short lived product runs of all Eachine products.

Hey John seen a few reviews on the Eachine's and XK's and yours are definitely the most informative and honest. So I value your opinion over all the others. I want to get my first collective pitch heli I've flown before but not collective. The price of this RTF with 4 batteries is currently really really good for me in the UK around £230. The e160 is £160 and the XK K110 is £100 but out of stock for a while. Question is do I really tame down the e180 and buy that over the others? I will not be trying 3d I'll be sport flying it. Being bigger it's the one I want to go for but I'm worried it's just too much! But cost and value wise it's looking the best I think 🤔 Cheers and keep up the great work

To quickly respond however, yes the E180 can be tamed right down into a nice trainer to learn on just like any CP heli can. As to if you want to start on a heli like this over a smaller micro CP bird is up to your specific expectations. Primarily do you want something that will almost always survive a mishap, over one that has a much greater energy release potential and therefore possibility of more crash damage. Also take your flying area into account, do you have the room for a 200 size heli? Hey what did you decide? I restarted this Hobby after 8 years break. I really really appreciated johns advice. First i got the xk k110 and then a second one. You dont want to be grounded so long. They are so cheap. Now I am up the the omphobby M1. Love to fly i the field or park or even garden. Anything bigger is restricted with over 250g laws and needs to be flown way out. Sucks if you wanna give it a quick spin. I recommend Banggood. Takes a while, but cheap. Otherwise we even have an amazon prime dealer selling the M1 and spares hardly more expensive than BG. The dealer Flish on Aliexpress offers M1 parts with 10 day delivery really cheap.

I need help (and so does my heli lol), i can not calibrate the gyro to stop drift, found a video that says to hold back the elevator for 4 seconds to put it into calibration mode (fast flashing red led) but it dose not work, my red led stays flashing slowly (around 1 second flashes) and does not change. I am not able to find a led status indicator key for this heli either so im not even sure if my red led should be flashing red at 1 second intervals? i have tried rebinding and it stays the same. I am using the TX16s transmitter. If you can help it would be amazing, i have spend hours trawling the web for answers but have come up with nothing, please help (:

No idea. All I can say is if your TX uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol, has a minimum of 6 channels along with heli programming (pitch & throttle curves etc.) then yes it should work.

The OMP M2 and very likely the E180 will auto. It takes skill and there is little energy left in the rotor (like any small heli), but it can be done. The direct drive motor freewheels quite easily in both.

@zmanphx - Transport Canada's RPAS (remote piloted aerial systems) restrictions & regulations are country wide, not provincial. If you become a MAAC member (our version of your AMA), and fly at a MAAC location with traditional line of sight RC aircraft (no drones or FPV, which brought about all this BS in the first place), you are exempt from all of Transport Canada's RPAS heavy handed regulation. You must of course follow MAAC's rules which we have been doing for years and why MAAC is exempt from TC's RC regulations because of their exemplary safety record. Of course if you are in a very rural area/large private field with no-one around and are not flying in controlled airspace (ie. class G airspace), you don't have much to worry about, but you would do so at your own risk if you were ever reported.

@zmanphx Good to know; I guess some common sense (on the FAA's side) has prevailed. Do you know what ever happened to their "RC aircraft transponder idea"? Around this time last year, I was hearing from many of my US visitors to my site along with a podcast interview I was invited to on Skids Up, that the FAA was also looking into having all RC aircraft carry individual aviation transponders, just like full size so they could all be tracked and identified. Hoping common sense prevailed and that idea has been filed in the G pile 🙂 Yep, for decades traditional line of sight RC aviation has been very safe and common sense was followed by pretty much everyone, but all that has been undermined and we know which segment of the RC flying population is mostly responsible for this. It's the primary reason why MAAC up here was able to get exemption status from all the Transport Canada RC regulation nonsense - their decades of airplane, helicopter & glider line of sight flying safety record. I personally haven't been able to fly any of my larger machines for 7 months now since the private field I was flying at has new ownership that won't allow me to fly there anymore because of "drone fear". I'm now involved in the lengthy & complicated process of getting a MAAC recognized field in our area. 3 months into it & still no idea how it will play out.

Recently got my E180. I noticed some play in the feathering shaft. Tightened that and did some loctite on the threads. Nontheless a very nice heli! Which exact curves did you program on OpenTX? I used 0 for light flying, 40 for some light 3D and 80 for some real smackdown. Did you notice any headspeed changes above Otx Scale +80? I did not. Great Video, John!

Curve values are meaningless due to mechanical variation in the heli along with output values in the radio. You must use a gauge when setting up your collective range with any CP heli and I stated the power output and collective ranges used in my 3 flight modes. I found 90% channel outputs is where it maxed 🙂

Full carbon fiber frame, CNC machined parts, a costly large diameter high torque out runner, 3 digital metal geared servos, good & adaptable FBL system with built in S-FHSS RX, high current 3s power system. What other direct drive 200 size collective pitch heli option is on the market with similar specs and has as good performance for less than the E180? None. I was hoping the E180 might be a little less considering the M2 EXP is not much more and is a better helicopter; but the E180 is certainly not what I would classify as "crazy" pricing for the given package.

@@FASTFREDDIE-R.C. well to be fair, i have ordered from banggood delivered to my doorstep in 4 days..and from ebay seller in usa usually 4-5 weeks using ems, usps..so it depends on where you live..for the reviewer, this guy in the video did, he said bad things about this heli, the twitching connecting rods, screws not locktited, lack of grease, bearings assembled inside out, crap chargers..and he said it's not a really good cheaper option compared to the omp hobby because it's only 10 dollars cheaper..but of course to be a fair reviewer he had to said something good if it's good..i'm not trying to defend eachine, i think they're crap too..and better to keep producing cheap toy level rc, for the price, they were pretty good..but for higher end hobby level rc, i think they're not there yet in terms of quality, customer service, etc..so can't really compared them to traxxas, arma, or other bigger rc companies..
