Great Review! I just got my S2 and it's going to be my first heli. I've spend hours on my simulator, and scouring your web-site and books to get ready to fly it. I'm curious about how the radio settings play with flight controller controller settings. For example if you have dual rates for yaw set in the radio and the default setting of '5' for rudder speed in the FBL, when you say you are at 50% dual rate, does that mean you only have half the range of a '5' available at the rudder stick? If so, wouldn't it make more sense to bump the '5' to a '9' and adjust your radio dual rate accordingly? Similarily is the Agile setting for Ele and Ail on the FBL synonomous with expo? I'm guessing gyro gain directly affects the control loop and has no equivalent in the radio. Lastly, I noted in your excellent video on setting up OpenTx for helis you put your cyclic rates, rudder rates and Idle-ups all on different switches. In this video it sounded like when you switched from normal to Idle1, your rate changed too. Same switch for this heli or were you hitting both switches at the same time?
@Rchelicopterfun Жыл бұрын
@dieterweik6858 For technical setup questions related to eBook settings and such, please contact me through my website: www.rchelicopterfun.com/contact.html Short answer to your FBL setting/DR setting question is NO! Do not deviate from factory level 5 agility settings in the FBL system even when using lots of dual rate. They are two totally different things on a heli setup. Follow the tame values I have in the Setup & Tips ebook with factory 5 setting in the FBL unit.

Very thorough and complete review. One (maybe) stupid question: does the built-in S-FHSS protocol compatibility imply that one can use a FUTABA S-FHSS capable radio directly, without the need of any satellite on the hely? Thanks and apoligize if already answered
@Rchelicopterfun Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. That is one of the biggest benefits when any manufacturer utilizes a well established protocol within their receiver. Much like Blade has been doing for over a decade on their micro size BNF helicopters using DSM protocol; so many others are now thankfully using Futaba's S-FHSS so all Futaba users have even more BNF RC aircraft options.

You have to learn on pod & boom, not scale - this is fundimental. Scale is too frigile, has too much mass, and is way more difficult and costly to repair to make a good trainer heli. My scale heli page covers this in much more detail: www.rchelicopterfun.com/scale-rc-helicopters.html In short, learn on pod & boom and only when you rarely if ever crash, then you are ready to move up to scale.

Hell John. Very informative video review. I am wondering if one can replace the Philips head screws with hex cap screws?
@Rchelicopterfun2 жыл бұрын
Hi John - Hmmm doubtful. All the Phillips head screws used are self tapping into plastic inserts; I suppose more correctly called "thread forming" when used in plastic. You would therefore have to find the exact same thread forming dimension screw (pitch, thread depth, thread angle, major & minior diameter) with a 1.5mm hex head so it correctly threads into the already formed plastic inserts. Very unlikely one exists. Of course that doesn't mean you couldn't used a different thread forming screw, but it would almost certainly damage the already threaded plastic inserts and weaken them/strip the threads. Best to stick with the screws that already formed the threads and simply grab a Phillips screw driver when needed. A minor annoyance at most.

I enjoy your videos and commentary! Interesting observation about the tail motor noise overpowering the quiet main motor. I wonder why the smaller tail motor would be so much noisier, or conversely why the main motor would be so comparatively quiet.
@Rchelicopterfun2 жыл бұрын
Noise difference is primarily due to the rotational speed difference. Fixed pitch brushless tail rotors will spin upwards of 5 times faster than the main rotor when delivering maximum thrust. A 200 size heli like this one will have a head speed range of about 3500 to 5000 RPM and the tail around 25,000 RPM when producing max thrust. Blade shape and pitch angle also plays a roll but revolution speed is the primary reason.

Flybarless system tuning (what the APP is used for) is independent of radio setup. In short, both are used. Out of the box however, the factory settings should be fine for most, but if you ever crash and need to replace a servo or gear set to re-establish correct servo centering geometry, or change the system gains or agility rates etc. for a different feel, then you need to access those settings within the flybarless system.

I'm wanting to buy my first heli with still so much to learn, so I assume this will bind with any Radio Master Tx without any additional modules? This S2 has been on my radar, but so undecided if I should start super cheap with like a Blade Nano to learn. All thoughts are welcome.
@MP422ownz2 жыл бұрын
Yes, blade nano first…. These are not indoor heli’s and can run a wicked head speed. 190mm size heli spoiled up inside can be very intimidating The Goosky is a good advanced beginner heli when setup for self level and lower head speed.
@Rchelicopterfun2 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Velocity Stack - Not sure it will bind to "any" RM TX. Some specific RM's don't have the full function multi-protocol module is my understanding and you need the full function multi-module to have access to Futaba's S-FHSS protocol which is what the GooSky's built in RX uses. As for learning on the GS S2; as I often say, any good collective pitch RC helicopter can become a docile trainer when setup to be one, the S2 is no different. Use tame pitch & throttle curves, tame dual rates, fit training gear & follow a proven & systematic ground up learning/training method, and the S2 like any good CP heli can be a nice little trainer heli that you can progress on and grow with. Even better if you have access to an RC heli instructor to help you of course, but if you know what you're doing & don't rush the learning process, no reason you can't self- learn on the S2.
@mr.velocitystack41332 жыл бұрын
@@Rchelicopterfun Thank you for the info. I don't mind buying a Futaba Tx, over a Radio Master or Spectrum, I am just looking for a Tx that will bind and have all of the needed options without having to use any extra pieces, like satellites. @Rchelicopterfun2 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Velocity Stack - no idea on the Zorro. You would have to check with a radio master dealer if it supports Futaba's S-FHSS protocol. Might also show on Multi-modules website (where you learn all about Multi-Protocol and what protocols are supported). It will of course work with the RM TX16. That or get a Futaba radio running S-FHSS if you want to bypass the rather steep learning curve associated with Open/Edge TX.

Unfortunately since MAAC lost its transport Canada exemptions in early 2023, I can no longer post RC flying videos from my RC flying location as it's now considered *"commercial RPAS operations"* if I do so, and thereby requires special commercial licensing and authorizations. It's why I haven't posted an RC flying video in almost 2 years now. All encompassing & overreaching drones regulations as I predicted back in 2015 have decimated traditional line of sight recreational RC flying for us Canadians along with a growing number of countries world-wide. It will only get worse as governing bodies like Transport Canada and the FAA continue to move the goal posts while pandering to both fear and corporate UAV interests. This is precisely why my channel has been transitioning to a DIY only channel over the past 18 months in hopes I can save it from completely disappearing. I will of course still be posting RC related stuff, but no more flying unless something changes in the current regulations and restrictions. ☹

@dgiky Appreciate the thoughts, but not to worry. Thankfully I started DIY content on my channel back in 2019 or so when I saw the direction RC regulations were headed here in Canada. Moreover, the DIY content has become way more popular than the RC stuff ever was. I was much more concerned that I may never get fly again after MAAC grounded all members when we lost our exemptions and then every RC flying club had to get our flying sites re-sanctioned last year. Seeing that our little club shares use with the small full size airport here, it was a very complex & time consuming process, but thankfully after weeks of hard work, we still have a place to fly here (until the goal posts are moved again).
