Hi John thanks for making these explanation videos 👍🏻I’m trying to learn to fly rc helicopters and your helping me a lot I’ve joined a local club but found the guys unfriendly to a beginner !! so it’s all self teaching for me !! I’m using a simulator also to practice with

Sorry to hear your RC flying club is not helping much. That is very unfortunate. 🙁 Problem is, you are not the first to relay such experiences. When I got into the hobby in the late 80's, it was just thrilling to know someone else from your same city was involved in the hobby and we would embrace every new member. Didn't matter what equipment they used or their proficiency level. Now at many clubs, there is so much classless brand snobbery and 3D elitism, it makes many new comers feel intimidated and unwelcome. If these clubs truly want to grow their membership, this is certainly not the direction to go. Good luck with the learning curve. It's still fun and perhaps even more rewarding doing it on your own, just takes longer - enjoy the journey 🙂

I hope you are still in the hobby. Typically, if you got a flying field during the weekdays there are more regulars who would be helpful. Avoid, the weekend that is when weekend flyers "only" chance to fly, socialize and runaway from their domestic "honey" do list. I've been at the field and met total beginners who had no idea how to set-up the rotor head and program their tx. I wish they "would do their own research" not hard to look up RC heli and find Helifreaks and Bob Whites video showing piece by piece how to build, set-up and program. Anyways, we didn't mind losing an hour or two to help a total beginner. After all, he was crazy enough to drop a few thousand on this toy. Buy first, learn later right.

Excellent video commentary Mr. Salt ! I most especially love your circuit training videos day 1 to 10, they are very very educational, and informative, lots of good points/tips to consider as you said, should one decide to take up this wonderful hobby, as for myself I just love the fact that helicopters in general can hover, fly forwards, and backwards and side wards ( just kidding ) ahh you gotta love these wonderful machines, til then, HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, YOUR FAMILY AS WELL !

Great video. Isn’t another reason though that most helicopters traditionally had flapping hinges? I assume the centripetal force of the blades would probably be enough to prevent them from folding, but there is also the coning angle which would have to be inverted too. I think with modern, rigid rotor heads you could get away with it, as the very few helicopters that can fly loops have. For example, Chuck Aaron and his modified Bo 105: www.popularmechanics.com/flight/how-to/a7521/how-to-fly-a-helicopter-upside-down-7588641/ And of course, our RC helicopters basically have rigid heads, if you don’t count the lead/lag ability due to the blade mounts.

Yes, absolutely correct, and comes down to full size helicopter design. Full size ones need very strong rigid heads as you pointed out to prevent things like mast bumping, etc. Never even considered the coning angle. Good points.

Thank you! I greatly benefitted from your e-books and training videos. Bought a Nano CP-X years ago, then got a T-Rex 500 for my 40th birthday, spent about six months building it (on and off) and am now flying it at a local club. Recently, I got interested in helicopter aerodynamics, so all the rotor head and blade design issues are fresh in my head :)

Very useful thank you. I still however can't understand how can it fly sideways. I would imagine it must require something like 6% of the pitch of the blade?

Directional movement is achieved through cyclic control. I have a full article on website explaining it in detail: www.rchelicopterfun.com/cyclic-rc-helicopter-control.html This video also covers cyclic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mma7apx8oKyierc

Good video. I was watching a clip that showed a model helicopter doing some crazy stunts. I thought to myself “I wondered why full-size couldn’t do the same maneuvers” as they could fly the same way I seen that model fly, that would explain crazy lights out at area 51😂. Good video thank you

please can you tell me if the co axial rc helicopter can turn upside down
@Rchelicopterfun4 жыл бұрын
Nope - fixed pitch can't fly inverted.

yeah,,,,,but better to perfect your orientation otherwise repair helicopter is time consuming...usually 1-2hr repair as fast as I could.....but I am more into drones!

A full size helicopter is definitely going to put its rotors through itself doing anything over than the rolls and loops they already do. The Russians claim to be able to fly theirs upside down but I've not seen the video yet.

Yes, and that BO-105 was HIGLY MODIFIED by the pilot Chuck Aaron to accomplish it. No sustained inverted flight however which is what is being discussed in this video. Big difference!
