Hi , i am from pcb background, I want to become clinical psychologist, but most of the colleges are not providing bsc in clinical psychology, either they are providing ba or bsc in psychology, should i go for bsc in psychology, will i get the license? Just as in bsc in clinical psychology course?

Hi Bharti To become a clinical psychologist, the current path is you have to complete your masters and then have to do your Mphil. After Mphil only, you will get a license and can be called a clinical psychologist. If you do the upcoming course in Bsc in Clinical Psychology, then you will get the license of a counselling psychologist, not a clinical psychologist. After doing the new course as well, you will have to do Mphil (now changed to MA in Clinical Psychology- different from the current masters) to get the license of a clinical psychologist.

Hi If the Mphil continues, then you can still go for it and become a Clinical Psychologist but if MA in Clinical Psychology replaces it then the eligibility is changed and you won't be able become a Clinical Psychologist as per my understanding. We will have to wait for updates from RCI

@jyothijyothi6905 Hi You have to do Mphil to become a RCI Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Mphil's name might be changed to MA Clinical Psychology (different from current MA in Clinical Psychology)

You will have to do your masters and then go for Mphil or MA in Clinical Psychology (which is supposed to be replacing Mphil, but confirmation is awaited. If you do your masters in Psychology, then you will become a counseling psychologist.

Dono hi ache courses hai...research oriented job ke liye BSc prefer krte hai companies/institutions. Masters in Clinical psychology kr skte ho kisi bhi ache college se ya NFSU forensic psychology main masters krwata hai woh bhi kr skte ho

Hi You can go with BA Psychology Hons if it is from a recognized University. Old pathways to become psychologist still exists.

Some colleges allow IGNOU students to pursue Mphil. Also, after Mphil gets officially scrapped, we have to wait for new guidelines by RCI to see whether MA graduates from distance education can pursue the course which will give RCI license and make you a Clinical Psychologist.

Hi Avni As of now, if you want to do your Mphil, you need to have done your masters to be eligible for the same but for the replacement of Mphil, you can have bachelors of 4 years to be eligible, so according to me you can go for the 4th year as well considering you don't want to do your masters. Otherwise, you can go for 2 years masters after 3 year bachelors to be eligible in both the cases (Mphil or MA in Clinical Psychology)

@intokworld5561 Hi What do you mean by the medical field? If you want to work in a hospital setup, then clinical as a subject would be preferred over counselling. Through UGC-NET, you can get teaching jobs in colleges not in medical field but it is good to have those credentials in your CV. Shows that you are good in academics.

UGC recognized Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) of 4-years duration (8 semesters) (NHEQF 6) in subject Psychology (as a core subject) with a minimum grade average of 60% (or equivalent grade as per UGC norms) and successfully qualifying in the entrance test and interview by a panel assessing proficiency and knowledge. OR UGC recognized Masters’ Degree in any branch of Psychology of 2-year duration (4 semesters) (NHEQF 6.5) after obtaining a 3-year duration Bachelor’s Degree with Psychology as one of the major/core subjects in all three years of Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum grade average of 60% (or equivalent grade as per UGC norms) and successfully qualifying in the entrance test and interview by a panel assessing proficiency and knowledge. OR UGC recognized Masters’ Degree in any branch of Psychology of 1-year duration (2 semesters) (NHEQF 6.5) after obtaining a 4-year duration Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Psychology, with a minimum grade average of 60% (or equivalent grade as per UGC norms) and successfully qualifying in the entrance test and interview by a panel assessing proficiency and knowledge. So, if your Bachelors is of 4 years, then yes, you can do it.

Recently,( Amity University Mohali Punjab) selected me for "BSC" Clinical Psychology Honours/Research on the basis of merit. How is this possible, they select me from arts background. Hi Insha Regarding Bsc Psychology, the notice which RCI has released few days ago mentioning about the same is a different course. They are RCI accredited courses from specific colleges. If you download the list of RCI approved institutions and see the list then BSc Clinical psychology is not under Amity University which means the course you are selected for is a normal BSc which was happening previously. RCI has not given anymore info about the list of institutions who provide New BSc Clinical Psychology. I will update when we receive the list after RCI releases something. If you from Humanities background then you won't be eligible for the new BSc Clinical Psychology

@Insha-dh8qb The normal BA or BSc are UGC recognized, not RCI recognized. Also, current MA are also UGC recognized. The one which RCI is going to introduce like BSc in Clinical Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology needs to be RCI recognized.

Hi Ananya According to me, your aim should be finalised first whether you want to become a clinical psychologist or a counselling psychologist. I would not suggest waiting for the new course as we have no idea when it will start and wasting a year is not worth this. You can still pursue bachelors in psychology and masters then to become a counseling psychologist. If you are getting a good college this year, then I would highly suggest you go for it.

There are not many colleges through which you can do MSc in Psychology if you haven't done your bachelors in Psychology but you can still do it. Check for the eligibility for the particular colleges you are interested in.
