so why'd the two girls get baptized and wear such nice dresses and potentitally ruin them and not even get immersed? i mean a big pool like that why not immerse them. the older girl barely even got her hair wet. not sure that should count

It definitely counts. The most important here is the formula of which the priest said, "I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". Even if the Holy Water was just sprinkled drops onto them, it is still a VALID rite, as long as the FORMULA said is NOT changed. There have been many invalid baptisms because the priest says the wrong forumla, for example, "I baptise you in the name of the Creator, and of Jesus and and of the Holy Ghost".
