Hi, thanks for the review, mine are on their way. Btw, small remark about fov: I think you're absolutely right about our natural fov being much closer to 16/9 than 4/3. But I'd like to see more of the vertical space without having to pitch down nd change flight path, especially when I record footage. That's I think where 4/3 will come in handy. Btw, flying 16/9 for now... Just my 2 cents ;) Thanks for doing what you do, and being independent and transparent.
@jdigi785 жыл бұрын
Good review Bruce, however you seem to have forgotten why we use 4:3 in the first place in FPV. Most camera sensors are 4:3 if not some similarly "square" aspect ratio. So 4:3 doesn't require cutting off the top and bottom of the raw image and losing vertical FOV. You could have a 4:3 signal display on a 16:9 screen but you're getting the same "peripheral view" but with more distortion. I understand where you're coming from though.
@thephantomharanguer5 жыл бұрын
Being 'most' doesn't necessarily make it better. Referring to video aspect ratio. Jes saying, there's good reason for both those, and more, k?
@jdigi785 жыл бұрын
@@thephantomharanguer didn't say that. but 4:3 IS better for fpv. Lenses are round so a square aspect ratio captures as much vertical image as possible. This is the same reason people use superview on gopros, it uses nearly the full sensor and squishes the video to 16:9 rather than cutting the top and bottom

Hi Bruce. Great video and review of the SKYZONE 030 , I haven't had as many Google's as you when I started I was broke so I purchased the EV-100 but was to small of a eye distance apart so I purchased the EV-800D's and used them for a while and then I won a new set of AOMWAY Commanders v1 and I have been flying around with them since. And now I have been saving for a new set and SKYZONE has been at the top of my list. I really like the foam pad but the power switch I can do without them. Thanks for the information on this set of googles.

@CarbonGlassMan4 жыл бұрын
I've heard people say they didn't find the camera in the front useful, but I've also heard many people concerned by flying alone because a mugger or whoever could just walk right up on them. How incredibly useful, I think, a camera in the front is. To be able to see and without having to remove the goggles. Go high up in the air, hit the button and take a quick look around you, hit the button again and you're back in the air. I think it's a great feature. I've heard people walking up towards me, but I'm flying. I can't just take the goggles off. I might crash, and crash into someone or into a car. That's dangerous. I always have to fly back towards myself to use the quad's camera to see who is coming up to me.

Problem with focus control on a goggle, it means people who fall outside the range of adjustment can't use them at all without contacts. This is probably the best goggle for people with unusual prescriptions.

Great info. Thank you again. As someone who uses custom diopters (for hyperopia and astigmatism) and does not have a fatshark module, these seem a perfect upgrade from the Aomway v1 goggles. HDO2 (and EV100D's) focus adjustments do not cater or my eyesight and are therefore unsuitable.
@robertp72095 жыл бұрын
Question, since your farsighted why do you need vision correction in goggles? I’m nearsighted, and need correction for goggles. I can be wearing bifocals but can see ok like my iPad now up to about 10 inches away.
@ArchmageAU5 жыл бұрын
@@robertp7209 Far-sightedness, also known as hyperopia, is a condition of the eye in which light is focused behind, instead of on, the retina.[2] This results in close objects appearing blurry, while far objects may appear normal.[2] **** As the condition worsens, objects at all distances may be blurry. ***** There is no distance at which objects for me are not blurry without corrective lenses. For distance the corrective lenses I need are +3.75 (right) and +6 (left). Well outside the HDO2 ranges. I also have slight astigmatism, so there is also barrel distortions required in the lenses to even out the view. I normally wear tri-focal lenses (that do not work well in box goggles). This is why I have custom diopters for my Aomway's. Without lenses I am flying blind (or at best blurry).

Cant wait to see what I see when the upgrade is done on my 5 inch freestyle quad and the upgraded micro eagle. The clarity even on a cloudy day is night and day above my previous goggles. I cant wait till they have a crossfire module available. Short of Dji there is nothing better and in anolog these are the best. Looks like fatsharts and yes I meant to say that instead of fatshark was sleeping at the wheel. I laughed when I saw the preorder for the more expensive fatsharks with the wider screen which I would prefer go preorder after skyzone stole their milk money and kicked fatsharks lunchbox down the block lmao. These are really tempting. For some reason the receivers in my old skyzones have gone bad and the range is awful. Really tempting to go for these instead of upgrading to the DJI system and hope someone puts out a similar HD system that'll plug into the HDMI port on those goggles.
@Sergeant8985 жыл бұрын
IMO these are the way to go. Unless you want to get locked into the DJI ecosystem. A 720p video via HDMI looks fantastic in the Sky03O's, and they are future proofed because HDMI will be the input of choice for digital receiver systems for the foreseeable future. Now that HDZero have paved the way, I'm sure others will try to compete with viable digital alternatives.

21:29 Humm... that analogy would only apply if you can't see the top and bottom of the goggles screen. The vertical information in FPV goggles being left out to go to 16:9 is well within the vertical field plane of what our eyes have the ability to see using a 4:3 aspect ratio with a 50 degree FOV, the largest FPV goggle FOV (DOM HD2) so far with some people without eye issues wanting a 55 degree FOV or even larger. When using FPV goggles I want to see the same aspect ratio I see when not using them. I want the "out of body" FPV experience flying as immersive and natural as possible. "Nature knows best" and that's why our eyes have an aspect ratio close to 4:3. Horizontally only about the central 115 degrees is overlapping between the left and right eye fields providing “stereoscopic” or depth-of-field information. We have a wider side peripheral view because we have two eyes needed for depth perception. When doing a loop with 16:9 you have to wait longer to see the ground coming into view and what there is to run into compared to 4:3. With 16:9 you are always limited in the vertical view limiting important visual information when landing as well as doing a loop around tree branches and wires above you. 16:9 was designed for movie theaters where multiple viewers sit in rows from left to right so the horizontal "sweet spot" is spread out. It is also far better for computer monitors as we read left to right and you can have pages side by side. But FPV is Single Person View angle. A widescreen display is absolutely required for widescreen movies and anything else in a wide screen format like a computer monitor and I would never go back to 4:3 (or a TV under 65 in.) for watching movies, but FPV has different requirements. There is no director controlling the view of the horizon in real life. And with that said everyone's eyes are different and in some case very different. A fair number if not most people have edge blurring issues with a 4:3 45 degree goggle view (DOM HD1) that going wider will make worse on the sides. I liked the DOM HD1's but they worked with my eyes. I also like 3D TV and some people get a headache. Bottom line is try out a goggle first and as many different brands as you can, to get an opinion and see what you like before you buy a pair. But like the majority of FPV pilots I would still recommend a 4:3 aspect ratio for FPV.

I find the 16:9 and 4:3 experiment to be irrelevant in the context of this conversation unless you had goggles that filled round about 90 percent of you're field of vision, then it wouldn't matter what the aspect ratio is other than preference, because the cameras aspect ratio is more important as it provides the information needed to fly. The goggles aspect ratio should only matter if it fills a large amount of you're field of view, great review though 👍
