Oh yes, yes they have. I got HD3s at a discount during a memorial day sale, and I had to do the power button upgrade, the L1 and L10 mods, get a rapid fire and put a pololu power converter so they would stop complaining and leaving half my battery unused. Too many mods to get the goggle that I wanted at the price that I wanted. They could do it, but chose not to. That's why fatshark will feel some pain now, and I still love my modded HD3s.

Fatshark HD will be via HDMI so why buy the HDO's when you can use it with the SkyZones?
@streetzfpv
@streetzfpv 5 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what they did I got say I bought the Hdos twice because by comparison their was nothing better. After I bought the Dji goggles I was kinda pissed at fatshark not comparing HD to analog but just the interface of the dji goggles, the brightness of the screen, ability to change fov. Left me wondering why Fatshark sold us the same goggles at top dollar slightly changed for years.
@tehllama42

Last year we were showered with clickbait videos about things being fatshark killers... none of them were. In the last 30 days, we've gotten two options which seem to make the equivalent FS product obsolete. For my part, the ultimate flexibility is going to be SkyzoneOLED with a Ground Station signal, or DJI system with the ability to run my legacy Analog hardware. Realistically, I'll probably run the former for racing, and my wife will run the latter for her flying.

I have HDO's so my opinion might be a bit skewed, but to me the HDO's look more natural in the comparisons. It just looks like the contrast and brightness is turned up more on the Skyzones. You can see it on the white glow around the trees.
@larrydelceg2406
@larrydelceg2406 5 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. Watching the side by side with a critical eye, the SkyZone's looked terrible to me. As if the contrast, brightness and sharpening were all turned to 10. Must have looked much different in person....?

Does flying at 200-800mw make the whole module thing irrelevant? I believe it does. Rapidfire is awesome, but really only matters for some flying locations or for multi pilot situations. Josh can you please run a 800mW lap around to show if multipath is still an issue... a lot of us freestyle flyers don't fly with buddies.
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 5 жыл бұрын
The bottom line is that however much range you get at 800 mW on the Skyzone, you get a lot more on the RapidFire, and I don't know anybody who says, "Nah, I don't care about getting a little more range or penetration." This is especially relevant if you are in areas with lots of concrete or other obstacles.
@shawnzfpv
@shawnzfpv 5 жыл бұрын
Is there increased range (I'm talking 'long range', not deeper into / around a bando) with the Rapidfire in Legacy diversity mode? Since I don't fly in a multi-path environment I'm thinking the Rapidfire goodness is lost on me trying to fly mid-range (inside 2 miles).
@tehllama42
@tehllama42 5 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell Excellent explanation. Running higher power just means that the point at which the module performance becomes relevant involves a lot more walking. Also the VTX performance when doing slow cruising can get dodgy, so the best apples to apples is 25mW flown close - Josh is spot on with that methodology.
@tehllama42
@tehllama42 5 жыл бұрын
@@shawnzfpv Every environment is a multipath environment. - the LNA's on goggles can get enough signal strength at the limit of range, what kills you first is that the cumulative multipath of the same signal drops your SNR way too low, so you get snow over top of an image.
@justindelpero
@justindelpero 5 жыл бұрын
@@tehllama42 I think my point was missed. If it flies the Bando at 800mw then I'm happy to use the Skyzones. The range point makes sense but not relevant to my point ;) purely a if I fly solo and midrange will the picture quality of the Skys trump the range of RF.

Reception is the top feature for me, so I guess the HDO+RapidFire combo is still the king. But Fatshark should take some notes from Skyzone: get a better menu system and SD card position (I don't mind the lack of a power button). Also, one thing that I see missing when comparing comparing prices between Skyzone and Fatshark is that you also need to count on spending some money on good antennas. This applies to both goggles.

Absolutely love all the competition and latest advancements in our hobby! Bare in mind, the trade off between best screens vs best RF performance is actually not a trade off for some people. For example, I don't need RapidFire grade RF performance because I always fly close by and quite open areas. For me, that makes the choice even easier (although for now I'm just using the Skyzone 02x). But great points for everyone to decide for themselves.

No its not. I thought so too but basically it looks more immersive in reality. You can also turn off sharpening completely and still have this immersive vibrance with luminance set a bit higher. @@JohannesReichardtgreat if the nonsense can be turned off. if skyzone 'hyper-realistic' in colors, the question remains whether we just have a more aggressive color saturation setting or whether there is a really a wider dynamic range. So, DockKing with RapidFire, Skyzone 03O, and declare victory? Clearview Gound Station V2 in with an honorable mention if form factor isn't that relevant. i feel like my skyzone02s have been good to me for a long time now. you never elaborated why you couldnt use the rapid fire and the skyzones. when your just doing normal park/house flying you just use the skyzones by themselves. when you are doing long range or some thing that will have obstacles you just plug in any ground station. easy to mount a small ground station to your radio.

I was hoping you'd do a more traditional comparison, perhaps around your yard? Sure, the receiver isn't as good as what you can put into Fatsharks. But not all of us intentionally fly in and around massive steel structures. Just a simple floaty, hovery comparison of the image would be nice.
@JoshuaBardwell

The difference in range is still noticeable. Even at 500 mW I have a little trouble flying behind my barn whereas with owlrc I don't. Using higher output power just moves the coverage contours out. It doesn't change their shape.

JB - I'm totally twisted now. I had the skyzone's in my cart, cruising towards the checkout. The last few minutes of your video screwed my whole head up. So, at 13:03 you remind us that we're doing the testing at 25 milliwatts. Please help me understand: I live in Brooklyn, NY. I'm not looking to fly 5 kilometers away. Would I get a GOOD result in a small, open field like setting??? I'm not looking for long range or professional racing range. In a mostly open, field type setting, are the skyzone's worth it?? What kind of results could I get at a higher milliwatt output in a shitty RF receptive environment, like at the end of your vid?? Your video was very inconclusive. I'm conflicted here. FML maybe I should just get the DJI and screw it 😜
@JoshuaBardwell

The Skyzones are great goggles. The point is just that you will get different range if you are using higher output power. Shitty RF environment -- use channels R6, R7, or R8 -- WiFi doesn't go up there.

1. As an Asian, Skyzone 03O is a godsend for me, I can already see better pictures than with HD3, and able to place my eyes even closer to the displays with the bigger faceplate, now I can see whole screen with perfect sharpness. NO MORE Fatsharks for me, yay! 2. Don't remember seeing that strong sharpening halo in my 03O, firmware issue?
@metoo3918

Guess I'd have to see it in person. The difference from the HDO seems better, but marginally so. The RF performance is quite a bit lower than Rapidfire. In that case, HDO/Rapidfire wins, but if the image of the Skyzones is really leaps and bounds better than the HDO, I would pick Skyzone.

DJI goggles are on pre-sale on Bangood under 500€. The only reason to use Fatshark or Skyzone is micros and any thing that will not handle DJI device weight and dimensions (50g) If Fathark make some hd modul under 50g to cooperate with HDO (very probably) it can be something. Joshua, please make some Larva X review! Btw: RIP Orca!

I fly Skyzones with friends that have rapid fire and we all agree rapid fire really is not that much better. Did they change the recievers in New Skyzones? I think mine would have done better in that situation 🤔 I would have to ask what antennas you were using?

If you sincerely feel rapidfire is not that much better, then save your money and buy cheaper stuff. To me, the difference is night and day. Antennas are Lumenier Axii patch and Lumenier Axii 2.

@Joshua Bardwell - No reason to try and tapdance around it - peoples faces come in different shapes, and any company that makes serious optics make models for Asian markets (but sell them worldwide), because that cut fits a lot better for people. It's enough of a thing that the different cuts get their own NSN number for DoD acquisition - so I think you'd be absolutely justified in calling out a manufacturer who ships worldwide for NOT doing a good job of this until now, and Skyzone are the first ones doing it truly right.

I used the module bay with rapidfire today and the sky03O built-in receivers outperformed the rapid fire. I dunno what I could have done wrong. It's pretty easy, connect module to av in and change goggles to av in. It was easily noticeable so if anyone can think of anything I'm doing wrong, please let me know.

Hey guys, i am so new to this that i've actually googled yesterday what FPV stands for. So i am just looking around as i would like also to slowly go into it as i can only dream how nice it would be to fly. One thing that i am wandering, now this is a review for googles, but aren't the DJI Digital better than this ones? Again, i am so green and i should shut up but i am just asking...why are the old ones still relevant if the picture is better on the other ones..the DJI. Thank you

The DJI FPV system is a whole different world than this but it is out of many people's price range. The DJI system is significantly more expensive than budget analog FPV gear.

That oversharp image plus no module is a dealbreaker to me for a slightly "better" image quality. I don't see a night and day difference and from what you are showing I like the more natural image of the FS still better. RF performance vs Sky03O is another deal breaker for everybody doesn't want to use dockking with RF.

My IPD is slightly narrower than Fat Shark supports but on the Sky03O I feel like it's just perfect. So subjectively I think it is a little narrower. Due to the curve of the goggles it's sort of impossible for me to get a caliper in there and measure for sure.

Shouldn't be any issues with latency using an external module. The disadvantage would be the need to power the Dock King, having to put it on a tripod or something, and have a wire running to your goggles - could be tricky if you have crash and have to go hunting for your quad using the model finder function.
