Perhaps recruiting would be easier if the federal government took policing more seriously. Individuals considering policing as a career are not as likely to choose The RCMP because they are very poorly compensated compared to other police agencies. Add that to isolated posts and lack of equipment and backup and it becomes pretty clear why many of the best and brightest are looking elsewhere.

This reporter clearly had no idea what’s she talking about. The RCMP is not getting many applicants, not because of a toxic environment or cultural hate. IT IS THE SALARY!! the RCMP currently ranks 133 of all the police force in Canada for salary and you risk getting posted anywhere in Canada. Many applicants prefer to stay Municipal because they get more pay and get to stay where they currently live. If the RCMP is the highest pay police force in Canada they’ll be overwhelmed with applicants. At end of the day, people want a well-paying job.

It sounds like they're lowering the English/French language requirements which is worrying. What they need to do is look for applicants that are less likely to be aggressive bullies who are apathetic to the people they serve. They also need to overhaul their training to be less militaristic. Until they address those issues, the only sort of people who will apply are people who want power over others.
@lenvickers3323 жыл бұрын
I agree lowering the standards to be selected is worrisome. As far as militarization goes Police agencies have to be ready and equipped to confront the worst of our society and our society while much better than many, is increasingly dangerously armed and willing to use lethal force against anyone to further their goals. The amount of equipment they need to carry to protect the public and themselves increases yearly. Take a look at a Patrol members belt and see if there is anything on there that any person would want to be without if forced to confront a dangerous person. The modern police officer carries several levels of intervention tools hoping that they will never be required to use some. That is why the uniforms look militaristic. ... because like the military They have to be ready for anything .

He doesn't have to deal with gun crime, drugs, or forced relocation several times in his career. The provincial police officers only require grade 12 and they make more per hour then the rcmp....

@krishm163 жыл бұрын
Every government agency provides you access to an entrance exam for free. The RCMP contracts out the administration of its exam to a third party consultancy firm which then goes on to charge you $250 just to write the exam with no guarantee on the outcome. Why would anyone pay money to a private firm to write a test, when in the past participating in the exam was free of charge? That's part of the problem. I was open to applying, but I'm not in a position to cough up cash to write an exam which has no guarantee on the progress.

@WolvenSpectre3 жыл бұрын
@@krishm16 I think you misunderstand me... I don't think running industry certs like this is a good thing so them doing it the same way is also a bad thing. For example a fellow technician friend of mine as part of his job was expected to do certification upgrading. He would write the tests and then sometimes he would fail but they wouldn't tell him what he did wrong. In one case he eventually found out that the reference materials were mistaken and the questions were based on that material. He was answering correctly from his work experience. In another case he had to rewrite the test three times because a test question had an interactive simulation of a Windows OS and had him do the steps to make a change to system setting. The window had "Apply" and "OK" buttons on the bottom of the simulated window. In this case hitting 'OK' applies the changes and closes the window so that is how he answered it. They wanted him to hit "Apply" then "OK" for no reason at all, but the difference in not doing that got the whole answer wrong, which was wheighted enough to make him fail. Those 4 tests cost almost 500 dollars not to mention the 100 dollars he had to pay to take it again to pass it, and they made him wait for months in between. For answers he gave that were right so how was he supposed to know they were 'wrong' to the test. This chases away people from getting their training and certs and similar testing for any police force is going to alienate prospective recruits.

RCMP needs to be disbanded and replaced with provincial police like in Ontario has OPP. They can be use security for federal government.
@elainakosmidis86573 жыл бұрын
Hi. I’m in neighbouring Quebec & we have the QPP. We actually used to have “province specific” police (like QPP & OPP) in other provinces as well but they were dissolved many years ago. They were replaced with the RCMP (who handle both “provincial” & “federal” issues). For example, in BC it’s the “E-Division”; for Alberta it’s the “K-Division”; for Saskatchewan it’s the “F-Division” etc. It may only be a matter of time before they do it with the QPP & the OPP. Who knows? Therefore, Canada has three levels of police services: municipal, provincial, and federal. Personally, I agree with that other commentator in this section who sarcastically asked, “If my life is in danger in Canada where can I go ask for help?” It’s a truly sad state of affairs because “cultural biases” is not the only problem that the RCMP has. Be well. Stay safe. 😷🙏

Some provinces are actually getting ready to kick the RCMP out. Alberta has the somewhat newly made Alberta Sheriff's Branch who do provincial policing, though do not cover as much as the RCMP in Alberta does. This is a stepping stone for them to test provincial police before finally forming a proper police and moving the RCMP out. British Columbia is also in major talks of bringing back their old provincial police as well and stop the contract work with the RCMP. I'm assuming other provinces are doing the same, at least gambling with the thought of provincial police agencies.

This is another reason to boot the butts of the RCMP out of Alberta they are mandated by the Federal Government we need a police force here in Alberta mandated provincially and is not governed by the Federal Government. We need a police force that is accountable for their actions provincially. Saskatchewan is also looking at booting the ill informed federal police force out of their province in 2032 also. Lets look at the RCMP past just in Alberta alone. Regina Training Detachment is very lacking at training RCMP the laws of the land they do not train them in the Charter of Rights. For example breaking into 1600 homes in High River Alberta during the flood with out any warrants at all. 250 RCMP did not know the law of the land and passed over thresholds kicking in doors and causing more damage to the homes and even checking out panty drawers illegibly. Coutts Alberta entering on private land and damaging equipment without a warrant to trespass onto these lands had they not learned their lession in High River. These are just two examples of poorly trained RCMP trained Federally at Regina. There are many more just here in Alberta for example. We also here in Alberta have the undercover sting set about by the RCMP to cover up the misdoings and handling of the murder of RCMP Police in Mayerthorpe by the arrest of two young men from Barrhead. Let us not forget the underhanded arrest of Tamara Lich one of the Freedom Convoy organizers from Medicine Hat for no reason at a dinner held for her. Also lets not forget the beatings of innocent people protesting legally in Ottawa during the truckers convoy which has been testified happened at the Emergency Act Trial. There are so many other instances where the RCMP in Alberta and across Canada where they have murdered members of the public and beat members of the pubic and are never held accountable by a court of law. Boot their asses out of Alberta in 2032 we need a provincial police force as they have not been held accountable in the past. The RCMP who crossed threshold in Alberta each of them should have been charged with break and enter and nothing at all was done to them at all got a free pass. They did not learn their lesion there they went on to Coutts and did the same thing. They fail to brush up on the laws of the land or be taught the laws of the land in the outdated Regina Training Depot. Under trained police force is what we are getting for our money they teach old school tactics as escalation of force not what we demand de-escalation of force. We pay these recruits during training of 6 months of old school training and then strap on a gun and a tazer and much more and put them out on the streets with out knowing the laws it has been proved. Give a doctor a knife at 6 months training and let him go to work on you. Yes they are outdated ill informed police force that needs to be gone from the territory of Alberta in 2032 do not support them to stay they did not care about us lets not care about them at all at this time. Gone for good in 2032 I hope.

Hopefully it changes the exam from selecting applicants who are solely muscle dummies and power tripping bullies to people who actually want to serve and protect the communities that they work in.
