For all points and purposes, that was NOT, a model!!! What I saw, was almost a full sized, 'DRONE'!!! That was, one of the best jet (and propeller) plane demonstrations, I've ever witnessed 😲👏👏👏!!!! I almost couldn't tell, the difference!! Beautiful model, enhanced with multiple cameras (perhaps Go-Pro) makes this, an ultimate experience!! I've also seen many a flights to, but this?? WOW 👍😁!! Coincidencly, the F-104 is my favorite, 'CENTURY' Series jet's, too!!

For those that may not know (I know just a little) this rc pilot is as expert as an expert is going to get. Actual jets are not like prop planes. You have to plan ahead and cannot just power your way out of slow speed situations. It can take several seconds for jet engine to do what you wanted it to do 5 seconds ago. Here, this a model jet being flown WITHOUT the ability to feel the aircraft. I dont know if there is some sort of telemetry that the rc pilot can use to know the airspeed of the jet (lord, I would not doubt they make tiny pitot tubes), but regardless of all of this, the ability for him to fly so slowly and accurately and safely during that first low speed pass is amazing, and this notwithstanding the perfect aerobatics he does. This is a remarkably feat of rc flying, never mind the amazing 104 model he's flying.
@RCScaleAirplanes5 жыл бұрын
_Thank you for your great comment, which I really appreciate !_ 👍😎 Modern Rc remote controls are capable of transmitting telemetry in real time. On request also in voice output. However, the pilot rarely looks at the display, as he focuses primarily on the flight.

When I was USAF ROTC, I was on a field trip to Luke AFB (December 1974). We got to see the new F-15 (they had 2), but they weren't scheduled to fly that day. On our control tower tour, they pointed out the north side of the ramp, where there had to be at least 50 to 60 F-104 Starfighters, all with Luftwaffe markings. The Air Force was training German pilots there at Luke, and I wish some of them had been flying that day, damn I love that plane!

*Hi Bob* _Thank you for your great comment !!!_ 👍😎 *Here is a short story regarding the German version of the F-104* But the "Annus horribilis" into which the Luftwaffe crashed 50 years ago did not make anyone smile. In 1965, 26 machines of the notorious type Lockheed F 104 G "Starfighter" crashed, one every two weeks on average. 15 pilots were killed. The insulting titles for the supersonic atomic bomb - "Widowmaker" and "Flying Coffin" - were then bitterly meant. It was the worst year for the pilots of the breakdown airplane and their relatives. Twice in 1965, a start ban was pronounced - and canceled again, without having shut down the causes of accidents. It did not work, the fault was in the system, in the German system Starfighter. In the years of use from 1960 to 1991 of 916 machines crashed 269, 116 pilots died. The German Air Force had the Starfighter retrofitted to an unmanageable size. In addition to the bomb system dozens of other special requests were added, autopilot, infrared sight, complex computer systems, multi-purpose radar and so on. The pilots had to navigate thousands of pages of instructions before they climbed into their cockpit, where they had to watch over dozens of ads at the same time and could hardly see out the window. The maintenance regulations weighed almost three hundredweight. The causes of the crash were also manifold, sometimes technical, sometimes human error. Other NATO countries with starfighters were not nearly affected by such problems.

@@RCScaleAirplanes Didn't that whole mess with the 104 also cost Maj. Erich Hartmann his position with the "New" Luftwaffe, Commander JG71? I've read more than once he hated the 104 and no matter what anyone said to him or warned him about he continued to state his feelings.

@@RCScaleAirplanes @bob dyer There are lots of stories about Hartmann's comments to his superiors concerning the F-104, most of them suggesting (if not out right stating) that he "hated" the F-104. But here's what Hartmann supposedly said in his "final interview" (which can be found here: < migflug.com/jetflights/final-interview-with-erich-hartmann/ >), and you'll forgive me (or not), but contrary to the popular mythology, it doesn't sound like he "hated" the F-104 at all: Q: I know that you and Steinhoff, among others, warned the German government of the F-104 program and that this was a very sensitive issue. What do you say about that today? A: Yes. Well, the Starfighter was a great plane, but it had problems, and I did not feel that Germany needed, or that our pilots could even handle this machine without a lot more experience. Much higher up felt that I was out of line, but I stated what I thought was accurate, and I was proven correct, but this made me enemies. I also did other things that were considered criminal, such as having the unit’s F-86s painted with my old tulip pattern, and I created the squadron bars, like in the old days, and this raised eyebrows. I felt that morale was important and camaraderie through a unique and distinguishing emblem was needed. The bars were killed under superior directives, although today all squadrons have them. I did have supporters, such as General Kammhuber, but he was a rare breed from the old days.

Hi Bill. I also remember the time when the F-104 flying over our village. The airbase was around 25 miles away. As far as the sound of the jet engine concern, it is possible to generate a similar screaming sound, but it will be very difficult and time intensive because it depends on the kind of exhaust pipe. I've seen / heard jets which came very close to the sound of the J79 turbine.

What a gorgeous, 104! I love that full flying stabilizer. Those low passes had me sweating bullets.😅

The front strutt needs additional lateral support to tighten up steering, great show, true craftsman.

Juste Parfait !!

The beginning of the jet age, when whoohoo, we can make planes that look like spaceships!!

The F104 Starfighter is for me one of the most beautiful planes of the history. I build one in 1/48 scale then another in 1/32 (non flying models). I am proud enough of them ;) This one is absolutly wonderful and amazing !! I know that it is a flying arrow (or a rocket...) and you must be careful of stall in some cases, in real as with scale model. Flying it smoothly is the better way to show it. Low pass at slow speed are really exciting !! Front leg seems to have a problem. Next step : inside machine gun that works !! ;-D
