So impressive for sure. I always wondered if they used a radio controlled Nautilus model for the underwater scenes in the movie, or if that would have been even possible back then. The underwater model scenes back in the 1950s were incredible for their time.

I've loved that boat ever since I saw the film in the 1954, My mother bought me the Disney book for Christmas, with photographs from the original film.... alas, long gone...Beautiful model of this classic movie submarine. No other movie submarine comes close to this one...

I saw it in a theater when the film was released. I was a kid, so I didn't comprehend the full story until I saw it again when I was older, but it's always been my favorite Disney film. Love the boat, too, but there's no way it would have survived that deep dive when it was hit by the warship. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3yylmmKnsx0mc0

I was the lead reactor instrumentation and control technician from Newport News Shipyard (NNSY) to the USS Los Angeles, SSN - 688 during its construction. Capt. Christensen was my next door neighbor. When I went to a vacation at Disney World, I bought a postcard of this Nautilus and sent it to "Capt Christensen, c/o NNSY, USS Los Angeles". Told him that this was to be the final hull configuration of his Super Fast / Super Quiet boat. When this picture of a lumpy submarine showed up, they actually did not believe me!! He called me a name when I got back to work!! Fun times.

Love that sub !!!! Seriously contemplating building one. But I do have a question. It’s my understanding that most if not all rc subs can only dive to a max depth of about 3 ft due to reception . is that true ? If so it seems like a lot of work to dive 1 to 3 feet deep !!! Please enlighten me on this as I am very interested in subs just need some clarification. Thank you .
@RCSubGuy3 жыл бұрын
Reception depth is a function of water purity, distance and depth. I've taken my subs over 20ft down in nice, clear, non-mineralized water. Add mineral, chemical or biological contaminants and your reception suffers dramatically.

Just came across your build, while surfing KZbin. It brought back memories of seeing my first r/c subs at hobby shows as a rugrat, with my dad. While I have built many r/c cars, trucks tanks, ships and boats, I’ve never built a submarine. After watching the Nautilus in action, I might have a new project to plan for. How far can you dive an r/c sub and still maintain control?

A very totally AWESOME boat, as are all your builds. Is their a reason that you use 75mz in stead of 2.4mz? It is hard to believe that someone would buy it and never display.

75mhz is required for full submerging. High frequency does not penetrate water.

Hello there! This is an outstanding submarine, and one of my favorites from my childhood. I remember the movie version of 20,000 Leagues, and have never forgotten it in the decades since that time. Although modern submarines are optimized for their function, Verne's Nautilus was more than deadly to the sailing ships it preyed upon in Verne's tale. It also gives the ship a very visually distinctive presence in the water. Unlike any other ship or submarine ever after designed or built. I have often wondered if a real 1:1 scale version could ever be built, even using modern materials, that would function like Captain Nemo's vessel. Or, like your model version. Your ship is a most amazingly accurate, and functional vessel, and one would be ecstatic to own and display it in one's home. One question for you though, how much would a copy of your Nautilus cost?
@flyurway3 жыл бұрын
With enough money you can build whatever you want. Almost surprised someone hasn't built a full scale working one yet.

You should get one of those small spy cameras and put it inside the wheelhouse. So we see the view from the inside looking out. See how close the filmmakers came to getting it right.

Did you build an Alvin type submarine? I would like to see one with an inboard camera and a lot of lighting. :) I remember reading long ago how Picard solved the loss of power problem on the Trieste. He used magnetic valves on the ballast nozzles which were filled with iron pellets. Too complicated of course but recovery after power drainage is possible if a servo is used to maintain tension on the emergency buoyancy release.

20:49 Bob, you forgot to lower the breather vents. I'm afraid you just killed all the crew and Nemo too. Hope Ned, Professor Arronax, and Conseil weren't on the boat.
