I try to learn something every day. Today, I learned of a GORGEOUS RC RACE TRACK nearby where I live and I didn't even know about it?! It just so happened that we have the perfect stock cars for it, too!
The RC club is Templestowe Flat Track Racers: tftr.org.au/
They're on KZbin, too! ‪@templestoweflattrackracers2906‬
( / @templestoweflattrackr... )
But it's raining! So... we got wet. Worth it? You bet!
Our Kyosho Fazer Mk II RTR 4x4 RC cars hit the track on 2S batteries and a pair of noob drivers. Much fun was had. And I'm so pleased to be able to share a bit of that with you here too :)
We didn't know what we were doing, being used to slower rigs. But after a while we found a groove and it was really fun. Since making this video I've also had a closer look at the TFTR website. They're very welcoming, from the look of it. Numerous classes to consider and a pretty spiffing new dual-camera setup for event day live-streaming! Their channel has a bit of recent new content at time of posting this video - go check them out!

Solid little machines, they are. I gave mine a rougher time in the last video - worth a look if you're wondering about durability! @@RCTNT yeah, if you're going to do road racing, the set up is key. right tires and right throttle and steering settings...... You did good though, I can barely get around 4 pylons hahahah I'd so love to get into road racing but considering it's 8 months of winter up here, there's just no tracks. Indoor? forgetabout it....warehouse space would cost $10,000 a month.

We'll go back and take it seriously soon. Just had a first time play to see what it was about. I liked it! I can see snow and space being an issue yes! I'd be more into flying if I didn't have ground area for driving, I think. Plenty of choice out there these days, rc is more accessible than ever :)

@@RCTNT oh I could see road racing to be a blast..... As for r/c being accessible....it's the golden era of r/c. You can get into the hobby without huge cash outlay. When I was a kid I looked into planes. To get in the air, you needed to buy a kit plane, then the gas motor, starter, and all the hardware. Then field box, fuel, and the only places you were allowed to fly were club fields and needed a licence. Total cost? $2500. That's $18,000 in today's dollars. Now you can get into flying for $50 and the plane has a gyro so you don't crash. (unless you fly it into a smoke stack that is lol ask me how I know? hahhaha)

So which do you prefer overall, between the Fazer and the TT02?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 7 ай бұрын
Fazer is an easy win. Handles better, steering is sharper, it's faster - or if motor and gearing were the same, it's smoother. Better suspension. Tamiya gives you nostalgia and a range of pretty bodies. It can be made to look great and drive well, but the Fazer Just Works.

Nice racing action, I just picked up a purple hellcat fazer...did you guys have any issues with esc getting wet? I know steering servo is waterproof but not esc. Thanks?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT Жыл бұрын
Awesome! They're amazing cars for the money. Esc is definitely waterproof but the receiver isn't. That's the only thing to keep dry. I didn't worry about it but ideally you'd put it in a bag or balloon with a rubber band, at least. Still, it was fine. Enjoy yours, they're great!

@RCTNT

Thanks Michael, it was a heap of fun, yeah! Running 100% stock machine here, radio, motor, esc, the lot - what you get out of the box. 14-turn 550 3-pole motor and a 40 or 60A ESC, whatever it is. Ample for the car, goes great, good battery life, etc. Very happy with it as a durable and satisfying package. Cleanup was pulling it right down, cleaning all moving parts. Lots of water came out of the vented wheels, those foams held quite a bit! Took me a while to get them dry as they're glued, so much squeezing, waiting, squeezing, waiting, etc. Eventually they were dry. I took the opportunity to pack the diffs with grease while I had it all apart, too. Firmed up the diff action a bit, which I think will be beneficial for handling. Probably. We'll see! The axles didn't have a lot of water in them at all. My car at least had a lot of grease from factory, so it was all quite good, honestly. The bearings are all sealed, too, so that definitely would be helpful to your average casual owner for vehicle longevity on minimal maintenance. Personally I quite enjoyed the strip down and reassembly - Simon did for his, too. We just had a great day :)

@@RCTNT I have heard good things about the Fazer. That was impressive. One thing I learned the hard way was to put a piece of tape over the vent holes in the wheels when running in wet weather. Is there a danger of running lipos in wet weather? Thanks.

It appears from the picture of the chassis that you put some kind of plastic cover over the esc and receiver. Can you tell me about that?

Zero problem with lipos and water - fresh water, that is. You can submerge them fully, no problem.

how do they corner so well in the wet? mine is impossible to drive in the wet.. even in the dry it still loses the arse end..
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 28 күн бұрын
Everything is stock, the tires seem to just be great general purpose treads. Could be also that this is a hobby track only and no nitros are allowed, so there's no oil on the surface. If you're driving in a car park or on the road, there'll be oil etc from full sized cars. Just a guess but that's probably the biggest difference.

@@RCTNT Hey thanks for the reply... I have been to that track and its nice.. it is a bit of a drive to get there though, I usually run the Fazer around the same sort of surface at some netball courts.. 1 thing is I have upgraded to a more powerful brushless motor... stock they do 40kmh, with the brushless and 2s batt and 35T pinion I get around 60kmh and with 3s 82kmh 37T pinion... I guess the mods make it easier to lose traction.

Depends on where you are in the world, but I get an order from ATees 3 to 7 times a year and it's always fast to Australia. AliExpress has also been excellent. However, USA is geographically more distant and trade agreements between countries may impact shipping and duty costs. But Fwiw, I pursued an affiliate agreement with Asiatees because I've been a huge fan for years. They're great.

Oh right, yep, you'll be fine. There's another option, look at Crazy Hobbies on ebay. They have 22% off for ebay plus members at the moment. That translates to a bigger discount than you'll find anywhere, as eBay comes to the table with the discounts. You'll get an unbeatable deal there currently for a Fazer mk2 if you look today. It might last a few more days yet but this kind of discount happens with crazy hobbies twice or maybe three times a year. Not usually this big. Good timing for a great deal. One example: www.ebay.com.au/itm/115638237468 ($379 with $83.38 off currently.)

After a wet run is it okay to dry them with warm heat?
@RCTNT

Sure, just not so warm that you damage anything! Home heating vents should be OK, though I don't do that myself. A friend does it regularly though and has only had issues with 3d printed PLA parts wilting a bit. Standard plastics seem fine.
