Probably the most innovating thing at RCX 2016 was the Wheel Electric Motor Conversion for the HPI Baja 5b and Losi 5ive T from TIDNAB Innovations dubbed the "Silent Beast" BUT, it's not your typical electric conversion, TIDNAB takes huge magnetic driven motors and incorporates the motors on each axle set inside the rim of the vehicle. This equates to total horsepower straight to the wheels with no driveline/transmission to get in the way. With claimed speeds of up to 120 miles per hour (yeah, in a fifth scale!!) TIDNAB could have something here.
Check out more from TIDNAB here:
/ 100010688593611
Tidnab Innovations was started with an idea of building the first in wheel electric motors for 1/5 th scale R/C cars , all the conventional standards were thrown out the window in favor of unmatched performance. Conversion kits were sold to retrofit the existing cars with these high end electric motors. Today, Tidnab Innovations is a multinational company and its products are synonym of performance, high quality standards and North American technology.
Tidnab is developing its own 4 wheel drive 1/5 th scale Supercar fully assembled with a sharp body design and massive powerhouse in wheel brushless motors that can reach speeds of up to 100MPH, all this delivered in a beautiful aluminum box. "Ready-To-Play" (RTP). Tidnab RTP has the same performance and quality as traditional R/C kits, only that you didn't have to build them. The kit version is still offered for those who want to have the building experience.
Tidnabs' interest in R/C does not just stop on land. In 2016 Tidnab will unleashed an all-out technological assault on the R/C world and apply their expertise to the world of R/C plains. There is nothing like it an electric motor that can keep your plain in the air for close to an hour of flight.
Tidnab is the number-1 company in electric in wheel motor design and in the forefront of innovation. No one has done more than Tidnab to advance the R/C car world with innovative thinking and designs that makes it easy for anyone to retrofit a gas powered car.
Tidnab offers a total package that combines thoughtful engineering, quality features, and excellent customer and dealer support. Tidnab is about experiencing total performance and satisfaction, not just in the products, but also with the company that stands behind them. We take great pride in creating, engineering, manufacturing, and supporting our own product. Our friendly and well-known reputation for customer and dealer support allow customers to buy Tidnab products with confidence, and feel good about the purchases they are making.
Tidnabs products are available worldwide. All of our products are unique to Tidnab and you will not find them under any other brand.
Proudly designing and manufacturing our products in Canada (using domestic components) allows us to always be listening and constantly improving.

Don't see how this setup will hold up to off-road use. Those motors are exposed and any rocks that wander inside while in operation them will destroy them.
@jop6663
@jop6663 8 жыл бұрын
These motors were so powerful in off road use, that when we showed up to race at the Canadian Nationals they would not allow us to race, Our 2x4 buggy was faster and performing better then any gaz 4x4 that was running in the qualifications. As for the 4x4 electric Losi there is noting on the market right now that can come close to compete with us.
@Clickbaiters
@Clickbaiters 8 жыл бұрын
+Jo P And how does the above statement prove that these motors hold up to prolonged offroad use? Okay, you claim they are powerful, that's great. Okay, you say they were used, or prevented from being used at a groomed race track. All fine and dandy but were these tested in gravel pits where bashers might spend a lot of time in as evidenced by countless KZbin uploads? Contrary to popular belief, an R/C that survives a race environment while being controlled by an experienced driver does not necessarily mean it's going to be bullet proof in any other environment especially when racing is a minority within the industry. Most people are bashers, that's a fact.

very innovative and the future of this tech is quite promising actually. i read a lot of pessimistic comments but that's always the case with innovation, most fear it, some see the sense in it. it is undoubtedly going to face hurdles, like contaminants getting in the engine as some have mentioned, but that's simply a matter of improving and re-engineering the design, which happens to every product through its life cycle. the most exciting thing to me is the future of torque vectoring through wheel speed differentiation. some in the comment section were talking about how without a diff it's useless etc where in reality this is actually the ULTIMATE differentiation method, even allowing for NEGATIVE torque. this is why the porsche 918 or the new acura nsx have individual motors. some may think that this is quite difficult and unlikely but look at the host of advanced software based functions advanced ESC's and transmitters have now. i am willing to bet you will see more and more of this. however, to keep things relatively objective, there is the problem of having a significant increase in unsprung mass and this will reduce suspension performance.

Verry interesting, and I suppose easily protected from dust with a plate like some diskbrake on real cars. But Is there a system to do like a differential to have a different speed at wheels? Could it be programmable? Is it working with a gyro (to do like an ESP and ABS...) when the car slip?Isn't there a big difference tu use due to the non-suspended wheigt?When everything will be ok, I think that it is the future of every car.

I got to see it in person and see it run. It's amazing and sure, it's probably not 100% perfect, but neither is 95% of the RC's currently on the market. I just wish people had a bit more open mind......

don't see where it would be very difficult to add diff settings into the esc, could control lock, and freewheel actions to infinity, making a diff adjustment a few clicks on your phone if the bt the controller. probably has a ways to perfection. but this system is being instituted on performance minded 1:1 4wd vehicles which means they've already got the diff scienced. awesome tech 2ith a few tweaks it might be on all cars in 10 years. affordable for most right now, likely not.

The sound is great when you're out in the middle of no where running it....electric RC add the ability to run at 2am and besides the screaming of the tires, no one will know you're running it....

+David Bassou From what I've learned recently, the Baja shown in the video has about 4,000 kilometers on it over a 5 year use. It was pretty dirty, so it looks like dirt is not an issue. The owner also stated, they're swapping out failed motors as well.

So instead of 1 motor with potential to fail and replace you now have 4. And you have to produce enough electricity to push all 4, and you have the potential of damaging the motor more with every jump fall or hit.
@TheRCNetwork

Well, lots of good points, but they did test this for years....but have since done nothing with the design. Likely due to the cost of conversion/lack of actual 5th scale buyers, etc

all that unsprung weight cant have a good effect on the suspension not to mention how much dirt collects inside wheels that will find its way into the motors cool idea but not really something the offroad market needs

Lol the next big thing! Three years later, I guess we were right, no good, nobody wants to pick sand out of their motors. Plus he he keeps calling them electric engines. I'll give them credit for trying, but not gonna happen. Maybe if they put the motors inboard like a Tesla, and had direct driveshafts going out to normal knuckles people would have tried it. But honestly, the motors have to be way too big to get the same bottom end torque we get from gear reduction at the spur, and diffs.
@danlemon2838
@danlemon2838 8 жыл бұрын
Cool idea, run it in some sand and those motors will be done. Awesome on concrete I guess...should be shooting for the on road guys. Please stop citing 122mph, with load and frictions you'll be lucky to hit 60mph.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Crossfire Lemon the Baja in the beginning has been running for years. In dirt. As much as I think 122mph is crazy, they're hitting clearly over 60mph. It's all about voltage.

+The RCNetwork I don't believe that, unless it's pea gravel or something of that nature. Out runners....regardless of size or style....are not even slightly designed for that sort of abuse. They make claims of being the leader in innovation and having the fastest 1/5 on earth and have zero physical evidence to back it up aside from a dirty Baja.

Bet I could destroy that motor really quickly driving it on the beach near me, 1mm to 5mm sharp shingle and sand, needs to have epoxy encased coils. But a great adaption of electric bicycle technology scaled down and done correctly, just hope a pair does not cost much more than a castle 2028 motor or it would be too expensive lol

The RCNetwork Certainly, laugh at your own reality. Its a matter of navigating all the large scale forums, non- existent, race events? I meant like a bad idea of having sex without protection with someone you just met at a bar, a lot of will and energy, bad execution. The internet compared to this idea, you forgot to mention NASA has a RC in outer space, LOLz Its garbage, bad design, waste of money and time. For a shelf queen and bragging rights, possibly, but thats as far as it will go.
