RD152: Sicce to the rescue

The Ultra Zero is a nice pump for certain tasks but for pulling old water out of a tank or sump I find it to be not the best design. It's large, heavy, unwieldy and can't be used to vacuum detritus in and around tight spaces. I use a Little Giant self-priming transfer pump. With this pump the pump stays stationary on the floor and a hose can be hooked up to the inlet and outlet. Really great for vacuuming detritus while pumping old water to a drain. I don't know why no aquarium pump manufacturer makes a self-priming transfer pump, they are the perfect tool for this job.

Sicce makes a larger more industrial version of the ultra zero I forget what it’s called but it’s my go to for tank tear downs and messy sumps

I use the Zero, a 10' Python extension and a Python J hook to pump fresh salt water back into my tank after siphoning out water while vacking the substrate Do the sa.e.for.all my clients.
