Doesn't the universal joint affect the torque? In that it takes more effort to turn it if the angle is more accute so the nut itself is actually not torqued up high enough.

I gave up working out what was what in the end, especially with the Motion Pro spanner. Allegedly at 90 degrees the torque is unaffected but I'm not convinced. When I previously tightened them without a torque wrench I know I drastically underestimated the required number of grunts.

With head gaskets at 50 quid a pop, maybe it's time to look at a copper (re-usable) gasket?

Aye I actually have one somewhere but I decided to go with OEM for maximum security and minimise any potential issues because I had limited time to fix it.
