IT STILL INSPIRES ME TO GO WEAR SOME TIRES OUT AND AT 79 I STILL DO.

A time machine indeed. Takes me back to '78. I just bought my first street bike, a used '74 RD350 in Burgundy. Great fun. Ride safe.

I had a RD 400 back in the mid 80's. I'd run with my buddy who rode a KZ 1000. I'd keep up with him to 100 MPH. He just had a bit more top end. These were some pretty fast and nimble bikes. Also had a 500 Titan thru my Navy days. My 2 stroke days are over but yours is a thing of beauty.

I've always loved Yamaha's paint scene from the 70's. That broken black line across the brilliant yellow gives me chills. My first motocross bike had the same colors. The TZ750 that I used for road racing did as well

YOU ARE RIGHT AND I HAVE THE BOXES OF JETS TO PROVE IT,but that's the fun of racing two strokes instead of computer controled fuel injection modern bikes.

YES THEY ARE IN OUR TOWN EVERY NIGHT,my daughter sees them every night walking the dog. SOME DRONE CLUB IS REALLY HAVING FUN,they are everywhere and lots of people are concerned but not me as long as they are not burning my two stroke oil. HAD ONE RIGHT OVER MY HOUSE LAST NIGHT WHEN I WENT TO DINNER,pretty big too.

BET YOU WOULD ENJOY GOING THRU THE GEARS ON MY RD400.

I started on a '73 RD250 then upgraded to a race prepped '75 RD350 that I think was faster than the '76 RD400C I own today even though my current bike is so much prettier than my 350 was.

Rode on the street and raced on the track both the RD350 and RD400. 400 had a closer ratio gearbox, which really helped with racing, but I also found the 400 pistons would self destruct alarming quickly while racing. As a street bike, the RD350 is the better machine, imo. Taller ratio 6th gear and stellar reliability compared to RD400. If I was going to ride a vintage 2-stroke on the street today, the RD350 would be my hands down pick. That said the Suzuki 2-strokes were extremely reliable, too.

The RD series were great bikes...shame they are not still made.... I know the planet could stand it...there's not that many of them and there never were....

GOOD INFO,oil is not compresable and does increase compression.

I miss my RD 400 - had a red 400DX that was a 78 model but bough new in July/August 79. Make sure the oil tank is full but don't trust the oil level low warning indicator (as me how I know). I was always told don't add oil to the fuel as can cause the mixture to run lean which leads to overheating and holed pistons, although I can 't see the volume of oil being added would make that much of a difference.

I THINK THE 400 STYLING IS A BIT NICER FOR SURE.

I HEARD OF ONE RECENTLY THAT WENT FOR 15,000 BUT NOT AS CLEAN AS MINE SO YOU ARE FREE TO MAKE A CASH OFFER. A GALLON OF TWO STROKE OIL IS INCLUDED OF COURSE.

LIVING IN THE PAST IS GREAT FUN FOR ALL OF US,we never get old and arthritic,we win every race, and the bikes never wear out pesky things like tires. CARRY ON I WILL SEE YOU AT THE MEETING LAST FRIDAY,bring a pizza.

I HAD A SUZUKI TITAN,wow what memories,I ultimately made a full drag race bike with struts and chambers, when I recently went back to ISLAND DRAGWAY after 52 years so many great memories came back of the TITAN. I recently posted the video of that trip,if intrested go to playlists or search my channel with keyword ISLAND DRAGWAY.

LOTS OF OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT,when racing back in the day the discussion was what ratio was best and the magazines tested ratios and found slightly more power at 16 to 1 than 32 to 1 but that is racing not street riding. I add 2 oz to a tank when it is on reserve almost empty and that has served me pretty well over the life of my Rd400,about 12 years and 10,000 miles so far.

Just remember that putting oil in the tank gives a leaner mixture and runs hotter
@sandmanbub5 күн бұрын
Yep and the engine runs hotter, not only due to the lean condition, but the oil it's self burns hotter than gasoline. Some found this out, road racing, decades ago, when they experienced heat siezing. They kept adding oil to the fuel in hope of solving their issues, only to find out it made things much worse. I've had a 2 stroke love affair since junior high school. Peace brother.

Those bikes never run right with tuned exhausts unless you change the carb jetting......you can't just fit expansion Chambers and expect them to run correctly
