Off topic but I want to share a spooky story with y’all about the Alicante snakes in my mother’s village in México. This is gonna be long. This is my mother’s retelling so i translated to english ❤️ let me know if your families have similar encounters with these Alicante snakes! “I was a little girl, around 8 years old.. Our home was made of adobe. It was just a singular small room. It had no windows, no doors, just an opening on the wall as an entrance. In one corner of it, we would make a fire to cook our food. One day, I was heating up tortillas on the fire to eat. All of a sudden, I felt goosebumps. I felt like someone was watching me. I looked all around me, & like I said, there were no windows. There was nobody there. When I turned back around, that is when I saw it: An Alicante, standing there, looking right at me, standing taller than I was at that age. Its tail was coiled, & the rest of its body was stretched tall. I didn’t notice it before because it blended in with the adobe walls. I backed away very slowly until I reached the outside, & I grabbed a stick. I was a very savage child, so I wasn’t as afraid as I should have been. I went back inside & put the stick right to its throat. It slithered its body wildly, all over the place. It was strong and so I struggled with it trying to get it out of our home, and I beat it to death outside with that stick. That’s why I was always called “the savage girl” of our village.” “My grandmother would always tell me to be careful and to watch out for those snakes. “Son machos. Y Siguen a las mujeres”, She was always told. (They’re males, they follow the women). Back then, the women of the village would go to the milpa (maize fields) to take meals to their husbands. And so there was a woman that would always go to the maizefields to give her husband his meals, & whenever she would pass a certain part of the fields, someone would whistle at her every time she passed. On this day, she heard the whistling, but this time she stopped & finally looked over and into the milpa. That’s when she saw the Alicante, standing tall and still, just watching her.”

That is a pretty good exciting story from your mother. Your grandmother's warning about those snakes reminds me of the news when a woman in Indonesia got killed and eaten by a 7-meter python on her way to work at a rubber plantation. I looked up legends about Alicante; it's a mythical snake that drinks mother's milk, impregnates women or uses the human stomach as a living place. The snake from your mother's story is part of a species that can camouflage with adobe walls; I'm not a snake expert though.
