In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm returning to the music of Disturbed with their song Don't Tell Me. Ann Wilson joins the band to provide guest vocals, and the result is a powerful and sturdy rock song. Come join me as I play along a bit and experience this great tune for the first time!

Great reaction Doug!! Long, LONG time Heart fan - love Ann Wilson, and I've been a fan of Disturbed since their inception. When I heard of this collaboration, I was VERY excited, especially after their cover of Sound Of Silence, which caused me to re-evaluate my opinion of David Draiman's voice (I liked it before, but was floored at how good and melodic he could sing!) This certainly didn't disappoint!! Ann, as usual, is spectacular! Cheers.

So Disturbed waited just over 1 year, not 2, before doing this video and releasing it. Also, how is this NOT Metal?!? This is MOST DEFINITELY Metal!! It's not nearly as heavy as most of their stuff, but it still definitely qualifies as Metal.

A voice that has been pushed to the limit for several years using it in live effort in so many shows must leave some traces of distortion in the voice that don't even sound bad. Good voices.
@Trevor21230
@Trevor21230 8 ай бұрын
That's not how that works. Adding distortion shouldn't strain your voice; if it does, you should stop and reevaluate your technique because it will eventually destroy your voice. The key is that there are ways to make sound with your voice that don't involve the actual vocal folds.

@@Trevor21230 I understand that, but as singing live puts more strain on your voice, it will also naturally become hoarse, which we actually like.
@Trevor21230
@Trevor21230 8 ай бұрын
@@getexis8685 if a singer is properly taking care of their voice with vocal warm-ups, cool-downs, exercise, and not overdoing it, they will not become hoarse over time. David already damaged his vocal folds once, during the _Believe_ cycle if I remember correctly. He had a mesh implanted to support the blown out vocal chords, and his doctors basically told him "If you blow out this mesh by overdoing it again, that's it, they're no more fixes." So he's definitely being much more careful with his voice than the average singer, and is still able to sing without any hoarseness in his voice. If his voice had become raspy from accumulated damage to his vocal folds, he wouldn't be able to sing clean anymore. The fact that he can indicates that any rasp you hear is the result of deliberate implementation of a vocal technique, and not something inherent to his voice due to overuse.

@@Trevor21230 I see that you are perfectly aware of all the details of David's voice... Apart that, by using the voice after so many years of singing loudly tends to cause some harshness to vocal chords, which is natural, but I completely understand what your point of view that David is a professional and manages to cause a scratch in his voice just on purpose. We are always learning. Thanks for your cared info.

I didnt expect to like it that much, but hearing it on your channel for the first time, I was actually blown away by the song. It was excellent in all aspects. Better than Sound of Silence in that as you mentioned, some of his vocals in that song sounded to me a bit too exaggerated. But here its much more under control, and much more fitting and strikes the true feeling and emotion of the song. Excellent Job Disturbed!

But think about it. Draiman's voice with anyone with a higher register! Ann Wilson. Myles Kennedy. Both covers were AMAZING. His grit, and timber, harmonizing with singers that can hit the stratosphere. Lzzy Hale, Daughtry, Amy Lee, ... hell even Kelly Clarkson could fit the bill ... as she's known to do ROCK in her own right. Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil.... all of them would compliment his voice! (btw,, if you haven't listened to any Lacuna Coil --- Dude!! Do it!) David Draiman's voice is like the perfect pairing .. and that's rare!!!! as a singer with a very high register, have been lucky to pair with a lot of great singers in my area, but all of them were singers who had lower voices than me. But in particular, my father and I , who shared a stage for 20 years, had the best chemistry ... cuz blood makes for better music!!!! you can't beat that genetic chemistry. In closing... this was a great pairing. As a canadian, having Ann Wilson featured here ... is magical.

He's actually shared the stage with Lzzy Hale for a brief duet at least once before. From their set at the 2016 Download Festival. They did a medley of a number of different cover songs with different guest vocalists, starting off with Lzzy joining him to sing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking For". There used to be a high quality recording of it, shot from the stage, but it's no longer on youtube for some reason and all that remains are really crappy bootlegs from cell phones in the crowd. The high quality version still exists on vimeo, strangely enough.

Great reaction as always from you Doug...... It's 2yrs since we lost the legend that was Meatloaf and I am yet to see ANYONE do a reaction to his most underrated vocal performance in For Crying Out Loud probably one of the best written love songs your ever likely to hear! I know you have done a few Meatloaf tracks from his Bat Out Of Hell album so perhaps I could tempt you into finishing the album like you did with Seventh Son by Iron Maiden, it would also help you see how the tracks fit together to create the story. Hope you read this..... Many thanks for your reactions!

Great reaction, Disturbed is so good. I’m wondering if you ever have done any a cappella groups. There are some really good groups out there. One of my favorites is a country a cappella group named Home Free. I have never like country very much have alway been into rock and metal. But when I watched these guys win the Singoff in 2013 I can’t get enough of their music it’s so good. They do covers and originals and most of them have a lot of awesome side solo work that’s amazing as well. You should react to there cover of ring of fire they did on the singoff live so good. Or there cover of Man of Constant sorrow. Hope to see your reaction to them.

Love this! ive just discovered this channel and your opinions on music is so honest and it's great seeing people expose themselves to old and upcoming genres☺As part of the small jojo's videos you've done (im not sure if you've heard this particular one before but it's worth asking), have you listened or reviewed Akira Otoishi's theme? i think you'd like the little guitar part at the end of the song. It also comes from one of the more underrated parts of the series; Part 4, Diamond is Unbreakable. He's also the only character in the entire series to play their own theme song in an episode! (other than the Oingo Boingo brothers in part 3: Stardust Crusaders.) Hope you'll give it a listen!
