It says something about this channel that the least poisonous cocktail you have ever made is the one with Absinthe in it.
@marhawkman3036 жыл бұрын
GOOD Absinthe is no more toxic than Whiskey. BAD Absinthe toxic due to being colored with copper salts. As Andy mentioned, the proper way to make Absinthe is to use Anise seeds for the coloring/flavor. Also good Absinthe tastes better because Anise seeds are actually edible as opposed to whatever copper compounds some shysters use instead. Also this isn't the first cocktail with no toxic ingredients, the "Dirty wastelander", honeyed mead, and Grog also had no toxic ingredients... other than the alcohol that is.

So Andy, Luke and Ellen found the cocktail good, while Mike and Jane found it just "okay". That may seem strange, until you remember that Mike and Jane didn't have to drink the unholy abomination that was the Dragon's Flame, and therefore their expectations weren't quite as abysmally low as that of the unfortunate trio.

Remarks from an ex barman: when they say mix in the other glass, they mean it, the sugar and the ice have to melt a bit. This would make the julep less boozy. The non alcoholic version would require a bit of work, but I would say start with a butt load of mint leaves and some aniseed seeds. Crush the leaves, let stand both in cold water a few hours, then add sugar, bring to a boil to make a light sirup, that's your absinthe replacement. For cognac, I'd go with granny Smith apple juice and half a shot of ginger juice. If anyone tries it let me know.
@dallydaydream6 жыл бұрын
Oooh, that sounds really nice. Not something I have the capacity to make myself but I too would be interested to know how it turns out if anyone tries it. Thanks for the teetotaler-friendly input!
@OtherworldlyOdyssey6 жыл бұрын
This drink was actually quite lovely, thank you! Can't compare it to the alcoholic one as I don't have all the ingredients at home but the mint and anise seeds worked pretty well as an absinthe replacement.
@clairewoods18586 жыл бұрын
Just did as you suggested with both the non alcoholic and the boozy one and both of them are very nice and fairly similar taste wise, something that I am going to continue to make. Also to note the non alcoholic one feels like something that would make you feel better if you have a sore throat.
@euanmorse6 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. The sugar should probably be muddled so it dissolves into the cognac. This is technically a true Cocktail as it contains: a spirit, sugar, water and bitters. Technically it has two spirits, but one is just a wash.
@MsCunningLinguistic6 жыл бұрын
Thoughts from a fledgling mixologist: do you reckon shaking it with the sugar cube would make it too sweet? I'm tempted to try this out - it looked delicious in the video - but I'm not a bitters lady at all, and prefer my cocktails on the sweeter or sourer side.
