Dutch from the beginning had an ego, he believed himself to be better than others, using his charisma to charm others. When everyone started to doubt him, it hurt his ego, that’s why Micah was able to have such a hold over him, it was because he fueled Dutch’s ego. Only reason Dutch shot Micah had to do with him accepting he was wrong even for a moment and to avenge Arthur. When Arthur was dying and Dutch stuttered “I...I...” he was gonna apologize but his pride and his ego wouldn’t let him. That’s why he walked away. Dutch wasn’t necessarily evil as he had good intentions, it was his pride that caused his downfall.

Ross then went back on his deal and ordered John to be executed, without being given a trial (trials were very much a thing at that time). Given that the other agent was not there, I doubt that a higher up gave the order to kill John. it was most likely Ross himself. But why? Was it justice in his eyes? Was it revenge for Mr Milton? Could be that he wanted to be known as the sole man who put an end to the van der linde chapter. No one can say for sure...

I think I speak for everyone when I say we would have a single player dlc where Arthur never gets TB Micah dies a slow painful death no good guys die and Dutch doesn’t turn insane. The dlc ends in Tahiti with a cutscene of the whole gang picking mangoes with Mary Linton and Arthur holding hands watching the sunset :)

To everyone saying Dutch was only bad after he hit his head: he let John get caught before the trolly crash. AT LEAST once, maybe twice. He killed in cold blood just before the start of the game. I agree with you on the fact that dutch didn't went bad because of his head being hit. But I don't think He was faking being a good guy too. Here's my theory : dutch was like a coin with two sides. A good one and a bad one. The more the things got complicated, the more they got cornered, the more his plans didn't work in this new world, the more the bad side of him took over (with the help of micah) for survival.
