I use this horse in every single play through. It just makes the most sense to me that the muscle of the gang would ride the biggest horse. I think it fits Arthur perfectly regardless honor level

Yess!! My go to horse breeds for author are the shire, thoroughbred, and dutchwarmblood (I save buell for John). For John I use shires, thoroughbreds, Dutch warm bloods, (sometimes the silver buckskin American standardbred) and Missouri fox trotters! Edit: and sometimes the Andrenes!

I had the pink-ish Andalusian for like 85% of my last play though. I was prepared to have Treble till the end. When he jumped off a waterfall, that I normally survive with my horses, he died without giving me a chance to revive him. I didn’t even see his body. Just the saddle, and I wasn’t able to get to it, so I respawned it at the stable. Man did I cry hard. Harder than the ending too. It wasn’t Treble, I was pissed man.

Sound like treble was a Perlino Andalusian and they have a very high health stat. So it’s interesting that he died from the jump when other horses survive.

I LOVE this horse. I use it for quite a bit of time and I go slow in my play throughs. He's so big and beautiful. I could care less that he's not a racer and honestly don't go for Arabians at all. I use the mixed white/black mane and tail then call him Domino. This gorgeous beast suits my play style just fine. Later on I go steal a tobiano Hungarian Half Bred for the rest usually after our poor boy goes for the deep sleep with Arthur. Bravery and strength is more important to me than speed any day.

The black shire was my first horse in online, and i still use it the most at lvl 70. Its just so pretty and gentle, and its so funny towering over all the others. Unpopular opinion; its a great choice for bounty hunters. Its hard handling comes in handy on trails with people, and it's much easier to adjust speed than with mustangs for ex, shires slow down really gently, whereas mustangs tend to stop very abruptly.

The shire’s always been a bit slow for my tastes, but I do prefer horses on the braver side. Mustangs are probably my favorite, and I also like the chocolate roan Dutch warmblood, who’s always been pretty brave in my experience. I might have to try and keep the raven black shire next time around though for hunting, or finding all those dang orchids for Algernon in the swamps. Also didn’t realize how BIG they really were, they really do tower over everything else. One of the reasons I find the Arabians to be severely overrated. They’re too small and finicky for me.

I bought the DLC so I got the Thoroughbred and well I accidentally ran full speed at a I think black bear, because the fur was black and it was much smaller than the normal ones, and it just got nervous, not even the jumpy version but only where the horse throws its head while being at about 2 bonding. Meanwhile the shire fed me to the wolves that were running after a deer and didn't react to us. I'm sorry I know the grammar is messed up, I hope it's till understandable.

I... regret selling my Roan Dutch Warmblood. [the one from Valentine, yes?] You only got 4 spots though. It sucks. But I want two Turkoman's, I always get the Arabian White because, well it's challenge enough to get that one compared to the other Arabians, and I acquired [somehow] the Dappled grey Pinto that's the centre piece of "Wildlife for beginners" part 3. Talk about challenge. That's probably the hardest horse in the game to acquire as Arthur Morgan. Beside which, far as I know the Valentine stables will always have a Roan Dutch Warmblood available.

I love this horse but man I also love the horse Arthur gets from the odriscolls and I’m struggling so hard to determine which is more canon. Arthur is big and the “muscle” of the group so a big horse makes sense to him but the odriscoll horse is so beautiful and the color scheme is perfect for Arthur because it’s got light and dark showing Arthur’s conflict

The Raven Black Shire may be a quite unique horse, but since you can only keep 4 horses, I don't keep it. I generally try to go with an Arabian (white or black) the Silver Dapple Pinto MFT and the Dark Bay Turkoman. Sometimes adding the Pearlino Andalusian or the Brindle Thoroughbred.

For the last few playthroughs this is the only horse I have used. I think that with all the other gang members having horses to fit their personality, Raven was the horse you're supposed to use. The "big unruly bastard" that lets Arthur look down on Dutch when Dutch rides his donkey horse. Raven, that's his name every time, is fearless, can win races with the Thoroughbred and Arabians, and doesn't buck you off for anything. I whish I could have him in the epilogue to help fight the Del Lobos. I could just ride him into the middle of a camp and just shoot.

I think Hosea calling him an “unruly bastard” but the horse actually being very calm is a hint that the shire is supposed to be Arthur’s equivalent of The Count, who would only ever let Dutch ride him. I named mine Butterjack, after a combination of Bojack Horseman and his dad, Butterscotch. Got him the long mane and tail with gray highlights. I briefly switched to a brindle thoroughbred I randomly got for free from an O’Driscoll ambush that didn’t fully spawn, but I almost immediately went back to Butterjack. I think the heavy handling feels more organic.

I loved this horse since the first time I saw it. I rode him in my first ever play through. I already knew your horse died in the end and you lose all your horses once you play John but, I rode that horse till the very end, and I was still sad (it was like that kinda dry or somewhat quesy feeling inside but no watery eyes or tears). I always thought "now why would Hosea want me to sell such a magnificent beast?". I got the game on PC recently and I'm replaying the story with rampages mod menu trainer so I'm gonna try and save the raven shire with the save/load option it gives you for the horses and use it with John after I'm done. I also have the rd offline mod with whyems rd offline mod as well as the online content unlocker so I made a few outfits one of which to ride the raven shire (and one that unintentionally looks like Buster Scruggs but hey, I like his fit. It really hit personal for me, in the first play-through. I found it while I was hunting. Wasn't hunting it, obviously. Didn't know it was technically unique until I looked it up. This was back in early 2019 when the game was still rather new. Imagine my surprise, finding out I'd stumbled upon one of the really rares, and what most people were calling the BEST at the time. [Many still are to this day to be honest] I just wanted the legendary Moose pelt. [I think the one up in the snow is the Legendary Moose?] Well, I had to tame the White Arabian, naturally. And for that first play-through, from about 2/3rd's through chapter 2, I used that White Arabian for every mission and at all times. [I didn't NEED another horse once I had it] Sure, Arthur looked a bit silly on it, but that just added to the charm, for me. This 6 foot 2 brute of a man nicknamed "The butcher" by his own compatriots, riding around on "Snow-White" the super fast Pony. I didn't know that Horsey had to die. Didn't see it coming. And I was probably as sad as Arthur, only not dying on the inside... Of course, I also didn't know that Arthur too was going to die, so I wasn't done with the tears. [Man that first play-through was rough...]

This is definitely the best horse next to the Arabians, if not better. Thing is a beast, largest horse ingame, can be near crocodiles for ever without bucking you off, has good health stamina and speed, and it fits perfectly for Arthur lorewise. It also works for low honor in a way, or if Arthur is running a black fit. Plus it is literally free to get and bonds really well (I named my raven black Sentinel because of his strength and size)

Absolutely agree with you on this, brother. The Raven Shire is a keeper. Another horse not to be sold is the Mahogany Bay Tennssee Walker, the only one of its kind in the game. I always have the following four horses stabled in my many play-throughs: the aforementioned two, the Piebald Hungarian (stolen from Blackwater lawman in Ch2), and the Seal Brown Warmblood (also stolen from lawman in Ch2). My temporary horse is the wild caught Missouri Foxtrotter. Cheers.

Not true with the Mahogany Bay Tennssee Walker. I've found a female one in the game. I think there are only two in the game at all. It was in one mission and it was a horse of a bad guy. I think it was the mission with Hosea where you can decide to rob the house at night or day time. The horse was to the left of the house.

My first playthrough I kept the Shire and named him Unruly. I sobbed like a baby at the end 😭 I'm on my 7th playthrough and have caught the silver dapple pinto. But the shire has always been my go to.

I swear the Murfree or whatever boys always gave me a damn scare every time they came up to kill Arthur and his horse bc I loved the horse so much. I kept mine and my Tennessee Walker. Also got cerberus the turkoman and Buell for arthur and John through glitch tricks. Since you still get a temp horse, I got silver dappled pinto missouri fox trotter through another trick glitch...5 of the most wanted horses for arthur, saved and safe in chapter 6 before the gang breakup (perfect)

I always keep this massive steed and name him walker. Always a loyal companion to me. After the first play through, I stable him before the final mission, and I save Buel for John. Those are my two favorite horses in this game

Man, I loved that damn horse. I was using it, had it leveled way up, no intent to sell it despite what stupid advice I got about it at the intro...but some random event or another cued up when I was all f-Ed up health wise, out of ammo, etc...and it got stolen from me. I can't remember if those Murfee Brood ocks took it, or some other stupid thief, but it happened so fast that I either got mercked trying to stop them, or they just ran off. I was new to the game then, so I lost the f'in horse. I was hella pissed, too. Later on, when people tried to rob me of my bad ass Hungarian Half breed, I would shoot them to pieces in seconds. I liked and worked with THAT one so much that I didnt even use the hidden white Arabian instead.

I loved this guy! I read somewhere that Arthur has Welsh heritage, so I called him Bran after a giant in Welsh mythology. It can also mean crow or raven in Welsh, so it was perfect. Very cool that a lot of commenters chose their horse based on Arthur's character rather than just stats.

I got a Blue roan Nokota from the Murfree brood that is just as fearless and slightly better stats so I sold the shire with a heavy heart. Limitations on stable space caused me to do it really.

Has anyone seen a scarred Nakota horse while randomly travelling in the Murfree Brood territory? My horse got shot by them to death and unrevivable (which I thought the game forced it), so I took that horse instead. Its coat is in gray, and you can spot several wounds on it which makes it so rare because there's no such horse like this exist in game anymore.

I think there are a few scarred horses in the game, I’m only aware of the blue Nokota you referenced, blanket Appaloosa, and Tennessee walker. There may be more but I’m not certain 100%

Kept mine as a gift from Hosea and the 1st playthrough he died during a train heist on my 2nd playthrough I've been careful to take better care of him always name him "Roscoe" (he's the horse that ends with Arthur's story) Buell lives as i keep him safe with John

I sold this shire on my first playthrough. I had saddler or something, and it always seemed too small for arthur. Second time i kept it and used it from start, till it died on arthurs last mission... it never got spooked by predators, not enough to buck me off anyway. It was a beast, and always looked like a massive monster compared to all the other horses. I deffo recommend this shire.

My fav horse. I never sell him, he's arthur's perm horse. Buell i give to john. The black shire, i think, is one of the bravest horse. I think he is one of the best "war" horses regardless of not being a war type. I've played this game 4 times and not once was this horse any less than brave. Named mine's Tribal Chief

Remember to save your game before going on the mission or selling later. In both of my playthroughs I immediately regretted selling that beast. I used him my entire first play through and sold him immediately in my second. Smh lol.
