Hi Russ, Your PicoScope was on the date wires between the Main controller and Laser Driver, Unless I missed something in the video. Do you happen to know if the laser driver is using these signals directly to control its output, or its reading/polling these inputs and has separate logic for driving the laser tube?

Hi Mike in this session kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3TShaWCg7qKiq8 starting at 4min 45 sec Chip Williams goes into great technical detail about the general attributes of a gas discharge tube and also the detailed design principles inside the HV power supply required to drive it. There is no other controlling logic within the power supply that I am aware of , The blue line (in my video) is grounded to drive an electronic on/off switch within the power supply and the red line (in my video) from the controller is either an analogue voltage or a PWM signal. Either are fed to a common input to drive a current control circuit within the power supply. There is no inherent intelligence within the power supply. This will become apparent when you watch the video. Best regards Russ

Hi Can you send a file from the program to a machine of the type of Golen laser

PWM = Pulse Width Modulation, not Power :) Usually used to assimilate an analogue voltage from a digital signal. Looks to me like the laser on off is not PWM - simply an on/off when there's a dot. PWM "may" be controlling the laser current however.

Hi Steve At my age sometimes things come out of my mouth differently than what my brain sent!!! It could be the beginning of the end????? Perhaps I was insufficiently clear with my sequence of events. Yes the PWM signal is a digital conversion of the % power request into a dc voltage that can vary between 0 and 5volts (0-100%power) and on my scope trace that was the red signal. That PWM gets converted into the analogue voltage equivalent within the HV power supply, where it is then used to define the current flow through the laser tube. As I mentioned, my Lightblade machine has a different RDC 644 controller and that uses an analogue voltage directly to perform the same current regulation function. Along with the current control there is a simple ON/OFF control (my blue signal) which is definitely NOT PWM. This is acting just like a morse code buzzer, connecting the pre-defined current level to the laser tube as and when required. I hope That makes thing clearer Best wishes Russ
