I can explain it in a different way,which way are your eyes mounted on your head ? Horizontally,right ? So you can see as much as you can in a wide field of view,a lot of information on that video for your brain to get a fix on what’s around,vertical hold which is portrait mode is to emphasize a person or object ,without showing what’s not important.Your vacation trip looks a lot better in cinema mode than keyhole mode.

I just had an idea. I was thinking of print comics and there are different ways of framing a scene. You can manipulate negative space as well. My question is, how can l make 3 vertical bars that play different scenes (shot vertically) simultaneously on a horizontal shot film/video?

this is diffusion of blame. Phone camera sensors are square. The widescreen crop is done in software. It would be a 5-minute patch on the part of the phone manufacturer to make videos widescreen when holding the phone upright, but instead of doing that, they're making YOU, the USER, unnecessarily turn the phone sideways and use two hands just to take a proper video.
