It's really nice to see exactly what is happening! When I Had a standardbred He tried so hard to canter, it was very stiff. Now I see it! almost like he continued to trot with his hind legs. Thanks for the videos!

I have two standardbred's at home. Teached hem to canter and everything. We've had the same problems. But I've handled it a little different. Especially with the older one. That one was really bad treated. If I tried to slow the trot dawn, he realy got scared. We've tried that for a month! without any results. So I had to let him run, and rewarded him when he started to canter. After a week of practicing, He Stopped running away!

Hi Folks. We don't have racking in Australia and it does worry me to watch it. Scotland Lady, yes, my wife is a Grand Prix Dressage Rider and adapted Classical Dressage to the Standardbred in a double dvd set, using 5 different Horses. Polohorses. There is a better way. That is the old way. These Horses are Saints (o) Regards all

Hi equineangel. I had a look and yes he is cantering. However, you have a wonderful opportunity, being young, to reach far higher and if you do, you will reap the rewards. Regards

Hi, really enjoyed this video. It was an inspiration to see Standardbreds working so nicely, I've never seen this before! I have a 13-year-old who has been off the track 18 months and we have a long way to go.. For a start I can't get him to work round - as soon as he gets at all excited his head is in the air and he starts pacing. I've been working a lot harder at getting him to trot instead of pace and he's making progress but it's slow.. He's very unschooled! Would welcome any tips, thanks

Hiya I'm from the uk, just taken on a trotter who only very briefly did harness work but has not had much retraining for a while although he the bit of retraining he did do enabled him to learn how to stretch down, canter transition (although breaks into trot after few steps) and balanced circles under saddle and on lunge. I have worked with another trotter mare recently but just wandering if you have any tips on a good place to start? He's unfit at the moment but very willing and kind Thank You :) - p.s: great video

The advice is this: Teach the Horse Leg Yield. Ride it inside leg to outside rein, bent and flexed in the way of travel, with 'straightness' and 'suppleness' Then you have a "Balanced Horses and then they can canter not looking or acting like a motor bike Regards

@MeAndMyGalloway Carry a dressage whip and read the Horse. Just prior to the break back, tap behind the leg (side of rump) and relax. Consistency is what you want HOWEVER read my answer of today re the Dressage. A LACK OF BALANCE CAUSES break out of Canter. Cheers

As far as I knew, they were both the same, trotters pace and are also known as gaited horses? I know it's a bit late but I was just wondering :P

Ive got a 15 year old standard bred that half trots and half paces. I havnt got anyone to help me retrain him so could you tell me what is the best position to be in. You cant really rise like in a trot so is it better to sit or stand out the saddle (which is more comfortable for the horse and rider) thankyou

@EmoBadgers134 Get the Dressage Right. Is your Horse 'supple' is it 'flexed' correct, is it 'bent' is it 'round' for without all of those, it will not be 'balanced' and therefore 'tense' Go Google 'straightness' and your Prayers may be answered ;) It is all on my wife's dvd's

IM retraining my standardbred off the track and he was the same. You need to not even post that trot. Sit it and dont allow that fast trot. Sit deep and adjust your leg outside behind the girth. feel free to reeeally overexaggerate this. Make sure the horse is very developed on the ground and can canter before you ask him for it under saddle. once he strikes off (ask in the corner) bend ur body to accomodate him and help him out.
