Often stop to pickup old computers off the nature strip to see if any interesting files are on it. Also good for parts like fans. Usually put them back out side after i have played with them. #win98computer #win98

That's a classic. Reminds me very much of the family computer that we had from the mid 90's, and I updated it to a PII processor and used it to sequence & record music + MIDI etc for a few years, until the Y2K bug took it out, like everything else at the time. (----; Had to buy all new technology in January of 2000.

I once read about a guy that found a laptop computer that proved to be quite valuable. It had originally belonged to some guy named Hunter.

Great video, the Studebaker Car Club pics are a good find! I remember the majority of the early incarnations of Windows, back in 1993 as a kid I was given a handmedown IBM 286 which had Windows 3.0 and then upgraded to Windows 3.1, fast forward to 1996 I had a 486 DX-33 which had Windows 3.1 to start with but upgraded to Windows 95 toward the end of 1996. Then either 1998 or 1999 having I think a Pentium II at that time I got Windows 98. Then Windows 2000 and then Windows XP which I used for over 10 years (skipped Vista) before upgrading to Windows 7 then 10. Anyhow it's exciting to see what you can find on discarded computers. I have bought 3 laptops recently from my local recycle shop $10 each, am yet to get them going as two have faults and one I can't hack the password.

Yes they have useful parts. The power supply can be used to power a radio. It has a 12 volt supply rail. I use one to power homebrew rigs. I used toroids out of one recently to make a broadcast band filter. I used the fan out of one to make a solder fume sucker. I've used Electrolytic capacitors and crystals out of them in projects. The headphone size jacks are good for projects. Thats just a few things. I'm sure there are more.

Another thing to add, not exactly computer related but relevant, back in 2018 I bought a digicamcorder from an antique shop and when I looked at the files on the memory card there was home videos that belonged to a famous Aussie comedian (won't say his name for privacy reasons), anyhow I got in touch with his manager and I sent the videos off to that comedian and I got a signed copy of his autobiography book as a thank you :) . I was asked to delete the family videos and naturally after sending him the copy and naturally I deleted them.

The most notable of mine was finding the computer that belonged to a guy that died in a hang-gliding accident which made the news. It had photos of him, his dogs, his hanggliders (and a few videos from flights), his living alone in an apartment, one gathering with family about 10 years earlier, no friends outside of the hobby... Actually rather sad ...and probably has made me the only person aware of his memories. :-(

Quite amazing, like a look into some ones mind. Computers and phones and stuff can be if your not careful a reflection of your inner self at a certain time.

They have an Attention span only as long as the power cord

Seemed that when the car image was displayed it did start in safe mode.

Imagine powering an old PC up only to find 'naughty' pictures of either your ex, or a family member, on the HDD?? - I kid you not, it happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. Jpeg scans, that's all I need to say about that. Yikes!!

Answer:no. It's e-waste. Having done a forensic you can now put it back on the neighbours junk pile.
