Well i just completed a 22 foot, double axle trailer with all new LED lights, electric brakes and breakaway box with the new control box. I also installed rear flood lights for night loading and backup, using the purple wire. I used an incline area, backed the trailer to the edge and lifted it with the 3 point. The small rolling chair fit under nicely. Then I got my grandson to get under it for the final wire up as I moved along with him. I used all 14 ga wire and heat shrink connections. All fasteners were stainless steel. Grounding points are critical for all trailers, I connected all as well as frame contacts, double ground protection. I then used a 12V converter to check all lights, test the right wiring for the control box to the plug.

I picked up the same terminal block for the blue trailer, slick piece of kit. You can tell they don't use much salt down there, up here that trailer is almost rust free! Have a good weekend Ed. 👍🇨🇦🇺🇸⚡️

Wow, I was thinking it's pretty rusty! We used to use a lot more salt but we just don't get snow and ice like years ago.

Looking good Ed! Nice job with the wiring and documenting the process. I been there myself, definitely not a job I am eager to do doing again. I can relate, I am well versed in the art of procrastination myself. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

That's a good job done! The junction box is great. Well done. You should have put the trailer on the gravel driveway, or pulling it up to the shop like you did. 😊

Great job Ed. A couple of thoughts and not criticisms. The "scotch locks" or otherwise known as "jiffy connectors" on the trailer brakes are prone to corrosion and failure. They should be hard wired with the soldered heat shrink. When grounding the marker lights to the trailer frame I use copper anti-seize around the screw hole as it prevents corrosion and the copper form of anti-seize is a good electrical conductor. I also use it on the ends of my disposable battery cells to prevent the batteries from harming the electrical components. Kind Regards. Craig

Good job and when I wired my trailer had the same color problem but the block makes easy to change them.

I built ramps and backed mine up on them to work on the back end. Got it up about 3ft high, then about 4 1/2ft once i dropped the front on the ground.

Morning Ed. Looking good. I’d spin those wheels and see if you have a bit of drag in the brakes. Energize the brake circuit and then spin them again. While spinning you should just slightly hear the shoe dragging. If not spin the little star wheel to tighten them. That will be a great trailer. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Great point, Mike. I forgot about the adjusters. Let's see if they still work 37 years later :)

@ yeah they might be hard to spin. Screw driver and a hammer might be required. Oh and lying on your back again. Lol. Keep safe. Cheers.

Hi Ed, Very nice job. Those boards were toast anyway. The only question I have is where is the Breakaway battery and its activation switch. I'm not sure if all states do require the activation of the brakes if the trailer disconnects from the truck, but I would want to add it to your setup just as a safety measure, regardless... Especially if you were towing your B2601. 😁 Just trying to help. Dan. 😊 After more research, a Breakaway Brake Kit is required on all trailers with a gross trailer weight of 3000 pounds or greater. This is a Federal requirement. So trailer plus equipment weight (Kubota) well exceeds that weight. I'm just trying to keep you safe Ed. 😊

It is not a good time of the year to crawl on the ground. The damaged boards were great for giving you some good light when you were under the trailer 🙂 Great job on the trailer

Nice work Ed. Only thing I would suggest is changing those Blue Scotch connectors at the Brake backing plates. Those things a prone to Corrosion and I have had many problems with them. I have eliminated them from everything I have. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ayn 🦃

Ed i like the junction box. Your wiring diagram seems to be off. Brown is tail lights ,yellow and green are brake/turn lights. There should not be a different wiring for rv and trailers. There is a universal wiring code that everything is to be wired to. Also it does matter which wire is power and which is ground on your brakes. Hooked up backwards you will have some braking but not full braking power. I use a big tex trailer to haul 3 tons of heating pellets at a time. It has brakes only on one axel. If i set it up for more braking i can squeel tires on pavement. Also those wires going back to your brakes should be a heavier gauge wire than your lighting wire. One other thing that I do is i use bullet connectors on all my light and heat shrink tubing. That way if I have to replace a light just cut the shrink tubing and unplug. Then you don't have to worry about your wiring getting to short. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ann

Well that's one way to jack up a trailer! (I think I'll not share this with my friend who runs OSHA here in Va! 😉🤣) Nice job. I'm a big fan of those heat-shrink solder connectors! Just to confirm...the wiring issue wasn't on the trailer side, but that the harness was pre-wired in the RV standard?
@MyClutteredGarage3 күн бұрын
Shhhh, haha! Yes apparently the terminal block is color coded for RV wiring. Why isn't this standard?!
@watershedoverlook3 күн бұрын
@MyClutteredGarage Agreed...why the multiple standards?!?! 🤷♂️🤦♂️
