Yeah I had to take a break from Re:Zero a few months back around the end of this / start of S2 part 2 because it was so dark and depressing. When I came back I forgot what specific point I was at and was confused about core plot stuff - like why did they even come to the sanctuary in the first place? these vids helped answer all those questions and now I can finally finish this series in peace

Only just made it through S2P1 and I'm saying f the rest of it. Pacing and Plot structure was just straight bad. It felt like they tried to play out 3 major plotlines all at the same time and ended up not resolving even one of them in 13 episodes. It's like the equivalent of season 1 doing the whale/cultist, mabeast viliage incident, and roswaal mansion arc all at the same time - instead of spacing them out and finishing off the character arcs and plot progression. The lack of direction and cohesion of the plot points was really disappointing and it just felt like they missed a step by trying to do way too much at once instead of letting the plot/characters breathe like in season 1.

Exactly. So many people are saying that season 2 was better. The reason however? They obviously didn’t say why. Because season 1 was simpler,more intense,unexpected and more suffering (makes the anime good). Season 2 on the other hand was so incredibly slow paced and had too many flashbacks. It wasn’t nearly intense because I could already predict what would happen next. It took Subaru 20 ep to try to save the mansion. And when they got there, they saved it in 3 eps. Subaru also didn’t suffer and die as much which makes the season very boring. There was also so much dialogues to follow and if you miss an important one, everything else becomes confusing. The first 2 arcs of season 1 got me absolutely hooked. What seemed to be a bright fantasy world very quickly turned very dark. The part where Subaru mysteriously died in the mansion was interesting too. There were also good fights like vs white whale and vs beteleguese. Not to forget season 1 episode 15. + Rem carried hard.

Season 2 he had to deal with elsa and meili attacking the mansion, and roswaal summoning the rabbits, combined with overcoming the trials by echidna to break the barrier. While in season 1, he feasibly could've ignored multiple threats, which he does in the Sloth:IF.

From what I gather, because of the first trial which is "facing your past" Emilia subconsciously prevented Puck from coming out because she had to face her past, a past he wasn't part of. After the trial is over he breaks the contract and goes into a weaker crystal for the time being to help our Subaru and gang.

Re: Zero season 3 has not been announced yet but since season 2 performed so well, and since the staff of season 2 have been talking about a possible season 3 we can be sure it will happen! We had to wait 4 years for season 2 but I'm sure we will have to wait A LOT less then that considering how popular season 2 was. If you want to read the rest the LN has been published up to volume 11 and the Web novel is already completed!

I’m pretty sure there is more info about that in the LN, but I’ve just started arc 5 and haven’t finished yet. The most commonly accepted theory though is Emilia is part witch, some even believe Minerva is her mother but I’m not too sure about that. On the topic of “frozen witch” I believe that just what the villagers called her cause they were afraid of her. Pretty sure it’s said in the Frozen Bonds OVA. Kinda like someone saying “you’re a bitch” and Emilia going “yes I am a bad bitch”. Also, fuck Pandora. All my homies hate pandora.

Subaru was cursed by the witch of envy as a means to escape the inevitability of death, which is why it doesn't care about his companions like rem's coma, and directly kills emilia as a penalty. Why does she care about subaru so much? We don't know. Echidna seems to be a pretty mysterious figure, she hates emilia for an unknown reason, and her goal of wanting to obtain as much information as possible makes sense, but her means to achieve that are pretty unknown. Pandora we are completely clueless on.

The series dropped from an 8/9 for all anime releases to a 4 with this. I had to stop after 3 episodes because those 3 episodes required three different watching sessions. I just had to stop after every episode, cause i got so bored i alomst fell asleep. I only know whats going on because of this recap. Im not sure i will even watch the next anime release. I read that it is immeasurably better if you read the manga, but im not about to do that, so rip to a series i really liked for its interesting idea. EDIT: BTW 6:18 is so self aware and a big reason i was so appalled by this season i think. Emilia is a whiny little kid that annoys me endlessly
