Yes and no. I work in staffing and recruiting as an Account Manager. We get requests from outsiders all the time, my recruiters get very annoyed when someone reaches out about a position but doesnt attach a resume. Recruiters are EXTREMELY busy so while building rapport is absolutely necessary, getting to the point right away is more valuable. The information in this video is excellent by the way.

Props for breaking down the psychology behind the reason *why* we connect with a recruiter the specific way that we do. Another tip--once you get the job, tell your recruiter to send people who are looking for the same kind of role that you just got your way. My recruiter is often sending people my way for help and advice on the job search. I don't want to call myself "the best candidate" or anything. But I did get the job, and other job-seekers want to replicate what I did well. I always make time to talk with job-seekers, especially those who are just trying to get into the industry. Breaking in was hard. I really want to help candidates who are putting in the effort. It isn't easy. Once you've gotten the job, pay it forward and help others!

Been trying this approach, but I seem to have more success when I'm upfront about wanting to apply for a position in the first message instead of digging through their profile and trying to find a common interest :/ I even interviewed a few recruiters and they say that they're not big fans of the approach where you first reach out without mentioning the job, they say it makes them unsure of your intentions (Are you looking for a job? Do you just want to be friends? Are you trying to hook up?) and they're more likely to ignore it instead of something where you are straightforward and upfront about applying for a job and what you want :/

Thanks for your guidance in navigating this perilous and scary jungle, with big looming animals around everywhere and if you make a mistake and step on a tiny twig at the wrong angle, someone turn around and will eat you alive. I really appreciate these scripts for guidance. While I'm socially intelligent and fairly extroverted in real life, I find the social choreography of these kinds of awkward social conversations with complete strangers utterly treacherous and can't overcome all of these unspoken rules that come with professionally talking to strangers on the internet. It's like it's own dedicated form of social anxiety, and it's a death trap. I simply can't act well enough to pretend it is the pinnacle of my life's purpose to work for a company that I never heard of til yesterday, and I don't know how so many people in the world just keep on keep on faking it and making it. I will be eaten soon, here in the dark.

It's great tutorial. Comprehensive and sticks to the point. It's just sad that job seekers should behave in uniform way to get the attention of the recruiters, which only points out that most of the recruiters are underqualified for the role. Ii know 5 or 6 software developers that need special treatment because some are not sociable some have anger issues some are just very lazy, but OMG their work is piece of art. They know what's in your mind without having to explain, they stick to the deadline and they do not have excuses. Some are very creative problem solvers too. But knowing them, none of them will do what's mentioned in the video. They will just stick it to the recruiter if they don't like them.

@@JeffSu Do you reckon is it a good or bad idea that I reach out to the interviewers before the interview?🤔️

@@jltwai If you already have the interview lined up, don't reach out right before. Send them a follow up note afterwards :)
