Hollywood trope. 'Hero' always gets beat up - even by small untrained guys like this -, and is then saved at the last moment by some kind of miracle twist. Never read much of those kinds of scenes in the novels, particularly not in the early ones. I wouldn't mind not having them, because they're so pathetic in what they're trying to accomplish that they brutally breaks immersion. But Hollywood writers don't seem to know any other way to write action.

The guys chasing them wanted the paper that Reacher had. When Reacher first shot back at them, he made sure to let them see that HE had the paper so that they would probably focus on him and let her go. She figured it out when she saw noone was chasing her.

If someone as experienced as Reacher had difficulties it is reasonable that a 100lb girl with less HTH experience would of faired worse.

There are some people in the series he takes down in seconds, and some that hold their own. Also... technically mistakes need to be made, or nothing would ever happen (or require an insane amount of setting up to be perfectly plausible).

3:18 Is nobody gonna talk about how Roscoe, someone who's shorter and weighs less than Jack, thought that she could try and hurt him with a slap? Let alone hit him in the chest like she does at 3:27? Then again, credit to the creators for making this a "Yeah, you go Roscoe girl!" moment. Because Reacher just save her and she's clearly not psychically cut to handle something like this. I also love how Jack reaction is more confused than hurt when she does that too him.
