Simple think figured out by another a year ago or just a tad less. Zombies (as long as there IS an alternate path to you) wont really path to attack blocks if your 11 blocks away. AKA any pit or thing your base is standing on be 11 blocks tall, or a hole that deep. Remember that 11 blocks in a sphere around you, when they will start attacking blocks. This is the general rule, its 98% true, some zombies will vary only slightly then follow the rule. That horde base looks pretty, well done on that. (I personally would modify the path ramps and such to what I will explain) Easier to use manual doors Steel (you could do Iron) close to where your shooting but you can click through your Firing hole. ON the zombie path to you Outside your box. ( note this is not 100% safe, its just cheap and effective.)At least the beginning, Later you update them to powered doors, set to allow switchs when you power them. Then each path are Seperated by at least 2 extra squares away from any Blast zone (aka demo booming zombies which range is 4-6 or so). so about 5-8 seperated grid count. (cant remember on top of my head the exact but 5 should be safe enough) when you do this you make sure all support for each path is not relying on the others so when one fails you have back up paths for the zombies. The base you have here looks cool but its more a over complicated, less secure setup "accident prone". Especially since your little hatch drops lead to death if you accidently walk over an open hatch that was preventing the zombies from pathing there. Look we all know we would say, "but we will check and not move over there until we close it." This doesnt matter in the thick of things. especially in multiplayer/co op.

The base in this video ignores the 2 main design philosophies that majority of players (including veteran players) fumble with in this game: 1 - Zombie pathing prioritizes where it can stand over where it can hit. That's not to say that they never consider where they can hit, just that they prioritize where they can actually stand first. 2 - Playing against the Rage Mode (Destroy Area Mode) of the zombies versus Playing WITH it. Zombies are hard-coded to not go into Rage mode so long as A) there is a path to the player, & B) they are MORE than 11 blocks away from player. So, even if there is a nice clean path to the player, zombies can and WILL go into Rage mode if they are within an 11 block range of the player. Also, ANY fall damage to a zombie automatically triggers Rage mode for up to 12 seconds (unless of course that fall damage is taken MORE than 11 blocks away from the player). And finally, during Horde Nights, some zombies (usually the ferals) will spawn in with Rage mode already active no matter what you do (because the devs are stubborn like that), unless they've spawned in more than 11 blocks away from you (which the won't be doing if you've built your base on a small island of land, water or not).

I despise the fact based have to have a fall height over 13 blocks to avoid rage mode. Base repair is my least favorite thing when it’s just muppets having a tantrum because they fell😑

It's 11 blocks. And yes, it is super annoying. I miss the old days when they only went in to rage mode if they couldn't get to you.

When they fall or you open a hatch it breaks there pathing. A broken path has a chance to trigger destroy everything mode. If they take damage or are more than 10 blocks away from you they will then recalculate the new path to you.

For anyone wondering how you get the digger tool: Press F1 and type CM for creative menu and DM for debug menu. You find the CM under the lightbulb icon. Click on DEV block so it’s on. Then click the last section of the CM. There you can find various tools under the explanation marker. DM allows you to teleport and have godmode etc... Pressing H makes you hover in creative mode.

It really does look like it's designed by a zombie-apocalypse survival company, much like how there were nuclear survival shelter companies all through the 50s-80s in the US.

I use something similar, but I use 3 sides of the base that the zombies can attack with the 4th being an exit/entrance for me. Each side can be turned on/off and it keeps the zombies moving around the base a bit instead of beating on one side.

An interesting idea but building on sand is like building on wet toilet paper because the zombies will dig under the blocks easily and collapse the base. I know this because I have done it. The posts and the base should be at the very least 2 blocks below the surface to avoid this. I like the design tho😉

You must be in creative mode and click on the admin icon when you bring up the creative menu. Then search admin tools and there are a number of different tools to chose from.

This is the part of the game that makes me stop playing. I am not sure what it is but it’s just not fun having to build bases like this to survive the horde. Cabin in the woods is my vision as a zombie base

Nothing wrong with turning off horde night in the settings before you launch your save file, you can always turn it back on. That's one of the cool things about this game, check out the settings if you haven't. Wandering hordes are a cool way to still deal with alot of zombies. Same with the screamer hordes.

it's still a perfectly viable strategy to use an existing POI as a horde base just by tweaking with a few blocks. Particularly POIs that have alot of height to them and already have some cobble or even concrete blocks already built into them, though that's not mandatory. There are some sweet POIs that are smaller that have awesome underground areas to work with, a couple of which are actual cabins.

You dont HAVE to. After years of playing and thousands of hours.. I also struggle with bothering with a horde base now. Mostly because recently nobody gets on anymore. It had a different feel when it was for others. For solo play, I end up just lazily modifying a building down the street to be ruined during a horde night. Depends if using a mod and what mod, too.
