Your last point is very valid! However I will say that the ridiculously small word limit for personalised invites makes it hard not to copy paste. If you want to say Hi X, introduce yourself for context, and ask if they’d be alright answering a few questions well you’ll be lucky if you can sign with your name. So I try to still switch up the words in my invites to people from the same firm but LinkedIn isn’t really making it easy... However, once I do get a reply, I send personalised messages asking questions based on the person’s background etc..
