400 years? The US was founded in 1776, it's not even 250 years old. How the fuck did you add up to 400 years?
@trentonteamer76104 жыл бұрын
Shottex the first slaves were brought over in 1619, check your facts. The British started that shit
@shottex98014 жыл бұрын
@Trenton Teamer Exactly, the *British* did. Back in 1619 there was no such thing as American, the colonists viewed themselves as British first and colony second, and therefore that’s a part of British history, not American history. The idea of an ”American” identity didn’t form until the mid 1700s, although British settlers still viewed each other differently. It wasn’t until the brink of the US independe war that Patrick Henry claimed that “‘the distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders, are no more’ and that they are, first and foremost, and unquestionably Americans”.
@trentonteamer76104 жыл бұрын
Shottex would you prefer if I just said white people? Who it was is irrelevant, the only thing that is relevant is that we were in fact slaves for 400 years. Was that not the original point? Americans were just British people who decided to call themselves something else, it doesn’t change who they are or what they did, just what you call them.

I'm going to just rant for a bit.... I grew up listening to 90's Gangsta Rap... I don't live in the U.S. .... But the "Thug Life" was universal.... We celebrated the culture.... we all wanted 9mm guns ( they are hard to get in our country, but you CAN get them if you know the right people ).... We wanted to wear the chains.... And the music flowed and made all these people money... NWA.... Snoop Dogg... Tupac..... Biggie.... All of them.... And then 2 of the greatest rappers of my generation were MURDERED ON THE STREET LIKE DOGS....... Live by the gun, Die by the gun... That's what we were told.... And that killed Rap for me.... I Couldn't get into it anymore..... I stopped listening to the really hard stuff.... And eventually drifted into a different scene.... And as I saw all these new century rappers came on, I thought, geez man, these guys are still acting like slaves, slaves to the money$$$$$..... They are still in chains, they just wear gold ones around there neck ( I wonder how many noticed that Childish was wearing 2 chains.... Slavery ;) ).... I got put on to this New Track by accident.... And at the end my first viewing I bloody teared up.... Because in my own small way, I helped create the mess in the clip........ [So now comes the part now where I get called all sorts of derogatory terms by keyboard warriors.... Not that it bothers me.. When you have taken a life, you have bigger things to worry about then internet trolls ;) PEACE WORLD..... COME TOGETHER!!!! H.T.P......

THIS IS AN EVEN MORE IMPORTANT AND POWERFUL MESSAGE today after all we have had to experience lately with the videos of murders by police and armed white civilians and the taking of innocent black American lives. AMERICA IS WAKING UP to the BS that has been distracting us from the very real problems of confronting our history, systematic racism and what it means to be BLACK IN AMERICA. As an old white guy I am ashamed of what WE have allowed to continue and what WE have ignored. Power and money has perpetrated the racist culture which we are now trying to break apart. Too many of us are looking at STYLE rather than substance. As Maya Angelou said “When we know better we do better!” Thank you for this amazingly deep and impactful art. I remember being offended by Gambino and his being shirtless, having to look at a black man made me uncomfortable! THEN, then! slowly I realized THAT THIS IT THE WHOLE POINT. White America has NEVER looked at Black America in an honest, straight forward manner. Too uncomfortable. Unnecessary. Ignore. White American has never allowed Black America to simply BE. Thank you Donald Glover for helping awake my dormant morality, and who knows maybe even awake morality in America!

My take is that in the opening scene is not about black on black crime as so many instantly assume but I see it as a commentary on gun violence in America where the gun is treated with more reverence than the victim who is simply dragged off and forgotten whereas the gun is reverently wrapped in a distinctive red cloth representative of the republican party and the NRA who refuse to enact any gun control reform. In the scene with the choir it happens again but the camera quickly turns away from the bodies to show how fast the media turns to the next news cycle when the victims are black. When he sings about being strapped it is not in reference to where he or anyone lives it's just about being afraid in America, fitting in in America, being American. When you add the context that the highest rate of gun ownership is among white Americans it makes more sense about the reference to fear in America. The dancing is just a distraction from other things in the background of the video as so many things in the news and other media are a distraction for things that are going on in America. The 17 second pause where he mimes holding a gun is I think a tribute to the Parkland shooting. Him lighting the joint is a snub to the antiquated laws on marijuana that unfairly target and punish people of color. If you're black and get caught with anything over an ounce it's 5 years for intent to distribute. If you're white it's probation. In the scene with the cars to me is representative of the pay inequality in white vs black salaries. Whites earn on average 30% or more than a person of color. The cars are all high-end cars from the 70s and 80s to show how far behind people of color are and the era in which we are are struck wage wise. The woman is the Statute of Liberty because she is in a Green bathing suit and is set also as a distraction to overlook how old the cars are. In the final scene he is running from an unidentifiable threat that appear to be people of differing professions we are taught to respect. There appears to be a Doctor a Policeman and others that you can make out in your minds eye. They appear to be white and the fear in his eyes is indicative of the constant fear people of color have dealing with and interacting with white society because you never know where the accusation could come from that could turn negative or even deadly. Also, I think the people chasing him are intentionally blurry to show that same white society can't see the threat in its self in order to deny the racism in America. The failure to see it for what it offers, which is plausible deniability allows the perpetuation of that safe feeling of being able to say I'm not racist.

Mike Funderburk Racism exists, absolutely. However, to pretend it only comes from people with "white" skin is ignorant.

One of the best reaction videos I've seen......authentic and real......she gets what a reaction video means and executed perfectly......and hard not to notice how cute the girl is.

Best reaction ever. Not because of the faces you were making, but because of the understanding that you got from this music video. I watched african Americans watch the same thing and not get an ounce of the messages in that video.

TornPaperYoyo I'll tell you what I'm not doing. I'm not saying "Attention Walmart shoppers" like you! Lolol. America has been hella gr8 to me, even though Im black! #respect But shit is nutty out there for a lot of other folks of my melanin. And its all supported by open asshole that supports mr.cheetos. So imma keep my eyes open and support all those who voice opposition to President Kremlin, and tell cute girls who make honest reaction videos, theyre cute. Lolol #justsaying #notgoinganywhere #TakeAStandbyTakingAKnee #notmypresident #CuteGirlSupporter

Cause Last I checked...there was only two ways of getting a PHD in that field. And those are usually dude who suffer from "Micro PP" or "Defunctus Erectiilus" So which is it... she faking it or you a victim with a PHD? Inquiring minds would like to know. I know you probably won’t read these but I just watched another video that I first watched when you first put it out and I’m each tune reminded of how much I love watching you. Don’t give up on being on screen or telling your stories, you’ve got that thing that people love to see and be a part of. Just keep moving. Something will happen for you. I just know it.
