I love this series so much! At first I didn't expect much from it, but it definetely surpassed my expectations! It stars off so funny and lighthearted, but you soon start to notice the deeper layers as you learn more about the characters. It has deep themes when you think about it, but I don't want to spoil too much so I won't go into detail. Hxh also has one of the best power sistems and friendships in all anime! I totally recommend it!

For anyone who hasnt watched this show. "Hunter" in this show refers to people who "hunt" anything. There are bounty hunters (also known as blacklist hunters), gourmet hunters (who travel the world to get exotic and rare ingredients and recipes), disease hunters (who explore various diseases and cures for them), etc. It doesnt just mean animal hunter

(Spoiler-free comment) Do not expect a battle shounen. HxH isn't known to have "typical shounen" fights, and it's more known for its story and characters. This show is also known for its MC not feeling like an MC, because while we open up from his perspective in the first arc, he doesn't shine much in the others and we barely see him in some arcs. The current arc in the manga doesn't even show him at all. The HxH manga was released in 1998, 1 yr before naruto and 1 yr after one piece. It definitely has a few cliches but I personally believe that it still holds up to anime today. It's one of the classic shounens and would definitely be much more popular today if the mangaka didn't go on a regular hiatus nearly every year, earning the series a nickname of "Hiatus X Hiatus". It was also on hiatus since 2019 and only very recently resumed a couple months ago. Togashi often went on hiatus due to poor health. Btw Kishimoto (mangaka of Naruto) used to be Togashi's assistant when he worked on a previous work (Yuyu Hakusho), and Kishimoto himself has said he's taken a lot of inspiration from Togashi's work (He said Sasuke was created with Hiei in mind). Another thing HxH is known for is its power system, it's a general consensus among anime fans that HxH has the best power system (nen system) in anime. Also, this manga has 2 anime adaptations, one from 1999 and another in 2011. The 2011 is faithful to the manga, but you can also check out the 1999 version after.

Oh Hunter x Hunter is fantastic. I had mixed thoughts going into it but having finished it recently, it's alongside Full Metal Alchemist as a favourite. Really interesting, versatile power system and of course extremely endearing characters.

I think they are gorgeous, yet there's something to be said about timing & intent when it comes to ending five, _Hiyori Ittai._ I experienced it organically, while watching through the series & that experience positively sticks with me. Consider watching endings one through four but don't touch five.

"They love their two boys" I think that that trope was almost certainly popularized by the success of Naruto, in which there was a big rivalry like that. Obviously naruto is a very big show, so it influences a lot of anime nowadays.

You're right, a lot of shonen were probably inspired by Naruto, and HxH was definitely inspired by Dragon Ball, but HxH came before Naruto. This is just the most recent adaptation. Strangely enough, there isn't really the rivalry between 2 young boys we see in so many shonen. Gon and Killua are very much best friends who spend most of their time together, and not sworn rivals.

Jester dude isn't necessarily a villain, and that's all I'll say 😅 favourite character and there's a lot to appreciate. 'Trunchbull' haha I'm creasing up! Love this reaction. Your predictions are... They're not all wrong! Surprisingly on point for some of it 🤣 Love battle shonen like One Piece, Jojo's, Hajime no Ippo, original Dragonball, Gintama, FMAB etc... And I'm not saying my opinion is gospel or anything, just that HxH is my favourite. The places it takes you, the wild tone shifts, and the risks it takes with its characters are pretty mental. Think it's even better if you've watched a ton of shonen, because you expect certain things from it and it skews those expectations. With other stuff it plays it straight and it's just as cool to see. Plus, as someone who has some nostalgia towards Naruto, it's also fun to see where some of its inspiration came from. That's also true for Yuu Yuu Hakusho by the same mangaka. HxH 2011 adapts the majority of the manga's story, and in a way that's pretty much devoid of filler. There's 2 filler recap episodes out of 148, whereas with say Naruto the first part has 200+ episodes and 90+ filler episodes. That isn't exactly a fair comparison, because HxH's manga took some breaks while Naruto kept running. But yeah. Very well done anime adaptation. HxH 1999 had a darker tone from the beginning and I don't blame some people preferring that version, but it suffered from filler in a way 2011 didn't. Decent filler, but yeah. Fingers crossed this does well- for some reason, even with the hiatus of the manga ending and fan hype at its highest I don't get pushed HxH content by the algorithm all that much. The HxH endings are different songs, so it might be worth checking them out if you're curious. Sorry for the straight-up novel in the comments 😅

If you haven't seen Hunter X Hunter, it's amazing. One of the best shonen. I liked it as much as my first real shonen, Naruto. But the pace is so much more lean than Naruto. It's around 150 episodes but very low on filler. Seriously, it may be a time commitment but I really think you should add it to the watch list.

Oh man. I loved season 1-4... and then season 5 was just hell to watch. A little more than halfway through season 5, I just watched the summaries at the beginnings of the episodes and moved on to season 6. I would watch if you want to react to it, but I would totally understand if you abandon it because of season 5.
