I was co-captain of the color guard for Star 1991, and your video reaction brought me back to that night at DCI. To be on the field with all of these talented musicians was the experience of a lifetime. The staff was incredible and the whole corps - we lived and breathed for that CRAZY drill. Just imagine what it felt like to stand in front of the corps doing a stand still. Chills upon chills. Goosebumps! Thank you for this video and allowing me to experience one of the best moments of my life through your eyes and ears!

Can I have your autograph? Haha. Marched Madison 88 and 89. I’m the biggest Star fan ever. 1990-1993 Star are four of my most favorite shows.

I was a majorette in HS, so of course I LOVE watching the color guard. Wow, that was amazing. I get tears, so I can't imagine your emotions even now. Thank you for your amazing talents!

This is the best drum corps show ever, period. Every drum corps member must be required to watch this. Prerequisite.

Jim Prime was a genius! Loved his brass arranging, especially in this show!

This was the greatest show EVER in DCI. Noone had ever done a show with the difficulty level from both the music and the drill. Those mellophones were legendary! Crazy runs all throughout the show.

this show was amazing i can agree with that but i also think bluecoats 2015 closer could be a close competitor

1993 Star of Indiana, “hold my beer.”

@@totesgene no way - star 1991 was way more intense visually and much more dynamic musically. 1993 gets all the love but '91 is a masterpiece

Crowns Brass Caption Head, Matt Harloff marched in this show along with others, which is awesome!

I've often heard that Star was a precursor to Crown, at least the brass stuff because of Matt's involvement with them.

I remember seeing and feeling this show like it was yesterday. Love Star and DCI. This era of drum corp was absolutely awesome.

As someone who was in the stands and able to witness this amazing performance live, I'm really glad to see the younger people like you giving these older shows a chance. Keep up the good work!

One of the important characteristics of this show--and many of the era stretching back to the early 80's--is the aural room left for the important passages to be heard...the drumline and pit are not ramming constant notes, but contributing amazing musicality to the overall music effect (the best of this is SCV 1984).

Yeah...this is the one of the greatest shows ever imo. If you look at what was done, at the time it was done...yeah..as comparative as it seems to modern day, it was x10 that back then....aka over 30 years ago.

Great show and yes very technical…the technicality, visual effect, and brass line blew everyone out.

The infamous Cross to Cross sequence. I heard they learned that move right before finals....I may be wrong but that's what was said on a video somewhere that I can no longer find on here
@dawnkjeldsen29798 ай бұрын
Literally the day of finals, if my memory serves right!

I believe it was put in a couple weeks before finals.
@janebrunk246920 күн бұрын
That's correct. I was in the pit in 91, so I didn't have to learn any drill. But I believe they learned that the week before finals, and the first time it was performed was at quarterfinals. People were told their starting point and the ending point, and told to figure out how they were getting to their end point without hitting anybody.

Hi, you should look at the top view of this performance and the shows that developed to this performance from 1990 and 1989. They are also great!

Try 1993 star of Indiana. The Samuel Barber and Bella Bartok show. It’s at the precedent for what you see in all DCI show these days 10 years before it became the norm in DCI

I went to that DCI finals in 1991. Star of Indiana was fantastic! Thanks again. I'm sure all who march and marched corps thank you! 😊🎉

The music is the Pines of Rome. Their drill was whiplash, but not every set was hit, even the crosses were a little bit off. But the music was amazing!

But did you notice the contra who ran 50 yards to get to his mark???
@uberpudge12 жыл бұрын
Aidyn, I see that most of your reaction videos are of newer DCI stuff, which is fine. However I would suggest a few videos to watch of genre breaking shows. Garfield Cadets 1983 (the Z Pull Show), Blue Devils 1993 (My Spanish Heart), Star of Indiana 1993 (Music of Bartok and Barber), Phantom Regiment 1996 (A Defiant Heart) and finally given your love of Mello Licks I would suggest Cadets Hornline Warmup from 2015 in Allentown. Rocky Point Holiday is just insane.

I second this, but may I add basically all of the Star\BD\Cadets\SCV\Phantom shows from like 86-93 ish, those were some of the best shows ever put to field. especially need to see Scouts 88'

@@josephemerson4559 agreed. It really was the golden age of Drum Corps.

Actually "My Spanish Heart" was 1994 Blue Devils. :)
@seanicusthirty76662 жыл бұрын
Since Robb Stone mentioned Blue Devils 1993 which is really selections of music of Don Ellis (Open Wide * Great Divide * Chain Reaction * Strawberry Soup * Niner Two), known for all of the odd time signatures he liked to use in his music. That actually would be a great one to watch since you seem to love a lot of horn licks. Awesome brass arranging as always by Wayne Downey.

At 6:06 , they are strumming the actual keys themselves. It brings out a different timbre, and also the sound is sudden, as it would be with a mallet
