No. It was an accident. Kyo probably didn't have enough time to choose either. The car drove there too fast. 😔💔😭

No it wasn't, there it was shown in slow motion while in reality it happened in just 5 seconds, then it was everyone's fault as well for not saving her and just ran away. It's not wrong for him to make himself a priority like what if he really pull her and she fell into his arms? Then everyone would found out and well it would be too problematic to erase everyone's memories, for Akito and Kyo's biological dad it would be just a reason to lock him up

I swear, Nobu understands these characters so well 😭 What you said about Tohru is exactly right, chosing Kyo even if this means disappointing her mom is a "selfish" decision for her; she finally decided to prioritize herself and what she wants, that is _*chef's kiss_ character development for Tohru (she's already doing much better than Kureno 🤷🏾‍♀️)

Goes to show how profoundly messed up each of the three main characters were at the start of the story: Yuki had just escaped from the Sohma estate and years of torment from Akito, Tohru was burying deep, all encompassing grief, and Kyo was dealing with THIS. Really makes the first few episodes of season 1 take on a whole new meaning and all of those small, heartwarming interactions from back then (including Yuki and Kyo even able to coexist in one house) seem like a much bigger deal. The best part is the author clearly knew all of this when she wrote the beginning - if you go back and rewatch, you'll pick up on all of the foreshadowing and clues (including a huge one - Tohru's mom passing away and Kyo's disappearance to the mountains happening at the same time).

I love that reveal of Kyo recognizing Tohru, it really makes everything that happened so far in knew light. Tohru saying she will rebel against her mom is pretty big step for her

Just so that you guys know, I'm old (35😋) and I read fruits basket as it came out, over 20 years ago💀, lol, and I have legitimately re-read the entire series about 4 times, at different points in my life. Each time I feel like I discover something new, because as i aged, I related to different characters, and it was like reading a whole new story. Anyway, I'm happy that now you really understand the significance of the hat, and how close Kyo was to Tohru before they even met. 😊

That’s kinda like my story- I first discovered the manga as a teen in the US as a slightly angry teen with issues. I collected the originals as they came out and they helped me so much, and I even have different editions of the manga. It’s truly amazing

I think since Kyo had been taught all his life that he was unnatural and the fact that he must never show his zodiac form in front of outsiders had been so deeply ingrained in his mind, anyone would hesitate to pull her back. So I don't really blame him. Besides it wasn't as if he decided to let her die, he just hesitated in that split second where he could have pulled Kyoko back and she got hit by the car. If anyone we should blame the driver🤷‍♀
