The fact that the idea for the Hunger Games started as a sort of joke answer to an assignment Highbottom wasn’t even gonna turn in and yet they made it a reality is SO fucked up. Like that just puts this entire franchise into perspective, truly
@nyxldx
@nyxldx 9 ай бұрын
I mean, it wasn't exactly a joke. They were given an assignment, Highbottom got super drunk and Coriolanus father motivated him to think all the lent pent up thoughts he had post-war and so Highbottom came up with the most inhumane idea possible. He realized how horrible it was and decides to not turn in the assignment. Coriolanus father took the idea (which he thought was good) and gave it to their professor so neither of them would failed. Coriolanus father is still an ass for doing that but Highbottom is still questionable for even coming up with the concept 💀

@nyxldx
@nyxldx 9 ай бұрын
@@vanyadolly that's not particularly true. Coriolanus was devious and commercialized the games, but nothing guarantees someone else couldn't do the same or go with a different approach to "improve" them. Gaul was using the students to get ideas and invested on Coriolanus for his potential. She could have found a groomed someone else even if he wasn't there

There's nothing explicit in the books about what happened to Tigris, but there are some hints that have led to a pretty convincing fan theory. We know that she became a stylist in the games, and that she was cast aside sometime after Finnick Odair won his games. There are also allusions in the book that during the war, Tigris might have reached the point of needing to trade her body for the supplies needed to keep her family alive (yikes). Given that Snow started coercing victors to essentially sell themselves to the Capitol elite, this probably was the breaking point for Tigris and caused her final falling-out with Snow.

This book/movie is dark in its own way, because Suzanne Collins did it again. She shows how dark the humans are. When her first trillogie came out, she said basically "At the begining of the book, everyone is shocked and ask ""how can you kill children"" but when i talk to them later on they say "Im pro Caito, ""i hope Peeta dies"" etc. Really? Is it all it takes? A few Pages and you root for childrens death?! Thats the danger, the Capitol is in everyone" Here its the same, You know who Snow is, you know what he will do for the next 67 years.... and yet you feel sympathy and can relate to him....interessting, isnt it.

It’s dumb writing. In the book he wasn’t even killed in 12. They did it to give snow more reason to despise 12. In the book he wasn’t killed in 12. It’s all this dumb “foreshadowing” bullshit. Like we need anymore reason to hate district 12. We had Haymitch and his way of winning, we had Katniss and how she won, and we had Lucy gray and what happened with her… but no the movie needed to double down on another damn reason why he hated district 12 😂😂😂 it’s like treating the audience like they’re 10 years old like “loooook see see his father was killed in 12…bad bad people…big trap bad people” 😂😂

@@elishawilson5342 nah it’s treating your audience like they’re stupid. We already had what happened with Lucy Gray, and then Haymitch, and also Katniss…why did they feel it neccessary to make another connection to 12 that wasn’t in the book - it was unneeded.

Shout out to Suzanne Collins bc she never tried to make Coryo likeable, redeemable or relatable. He was simply telling his story and we got to see exactly who he is, which is a slightly toned down version of his future self.

Notice how Casca Highbottom always calls them "children" and not "tributes". Also I personally think the people in the Capitol saw the Games more as a form of punishment than entertainment at this point. As we saw in the prologue, the war was pretty rough on them, like the guy who had to resort cannibalism, and they want to see the people who were responsible for their suffering suffer as well. You can see similar patterns throughout history as well.

Fun(but is it) fact: So cannibalism is banned in the games. A tribute one year started cutting up and eating the hearts of the other tributes, they had to stun him to remove their bodies. That's why they started to use hovercrafts. But Snow was the one to set the rule in place of absolutely no cannibalism because he was traumatized by seeing his neighbor cut a dead maids leg off, the scene at the start of the movie.

the worst thing is when that incident in the zoo happened in the book, the body of the dead tribute was hanged for everyone to see in that mentor's funeral.. which is so fcked up... and also snow's class parter also got victimized by their disgusting ways to control people... because of that bite, her skin grew scales, which later on was one of the inspiration of their fashion for the whole capitol...

Thank u sooo much for reacting!! The hunger games is to this day my favorite series from the ya dystopian genre. Although it's not a favorite this movie gave even more closure (i won't say it healed my inner child because it was kinda traumatic to watch 😭 i relate so much to your discomfort with parts in this) The best part about the movie in my opinion was how many times i got literal chills when thinking about how taunting it must've been for snow to see katniss after all those years, his own personal form of karma right before his downfall. Also something u pointed out is how much the games changed after he became president. How they became less of a punishment for the districts rebellion and more symbolic to his own messed up perception of life (his answer to what the games meant for him) they became more flashy and showy, he made the tributes dress up and present and promote themselves only to have them show their "human nature" in the face of death in the games, where they would discard morals to survive. Hope that made sense lol thanks again i rlly enjoyed the video 💗

Seeing his thought process and the reasons and motivations behind his actions will completely change the way you experience the movie on a rewatch. Just be ready cuz that man is messed up. It took me weeks to finish the book because I had to take breaks. Being inside his head was really disturbing the further I got into the book. I still recommend it though. Great reaction, love your insights into and understanding of the scenes. Nobody knows what happened to Lucy Gray. Lucy Grey takes her name from a Wordsworth poem where (in the poem) Lucy Grey's fate is not given. The 'Lucy Grey' song when they are at the lake is part of the actual poem being sung by Rachel. Rachel Zegler was perfectly cast as Lucy Grey. In the very last scene, I liked the rainbow arcing across the heroic statue, as a reminder to Snow he will never be able to forget Lucy Grey.

I think if you have time you should definitely read all the books! Even though it’s a prequel I think some of the information we get in the ballad of songbirds and snakes book, hit even more when you read the trilogy first! These movies are dark, but the books feel even darker in ways I wonder how it would be if the movies had them

I watch a lot of movie commentaries/analyses (a girl needs to know what happens before it happens, we love trauma) and this is one of the best I've watched, ever. Super engaging, fantastic facial expressions, enough stops and starts without it dragging on or feeling stalled. Also, without reading the book, you absolutely NAILED the book concept. Snow in the book is never, EVER a hero. It's first person, and he's manipulative af throughout the entire thing. It's an explanation and an expansion on the universe, not a "fall from grace" or antihero story. Snow is a villain, and it's more a commentary on nature vs nurture and how both were working against Snow but he never used his drive for good. Also should out to RIIZE, you won me over there 😂

I read the book multiple times. I believe Snow loved Lucy Gray. It wasn’t a pure, selfless love. He loved her for what she can give to him. That’s might not the best version of love but everything he’s capable of. So I really believe he loves her but the kind of love is not admirable.

I have read the book multiple times and definitely think he loved her. His love is toxic. He loves power more, but I think he loved her. If anything, it's his doubt of her love that is the beginning of the end. It is a great tie in to why he is so obsessed with Katniss proving her love for Peeta and him insisting she not lie.

I wonder if Lucy pointed out she was the last loose end intentionally. Yes you could say that maybe she let her emotion out and was scared. But what if she said it intentionally? She didn’t know if she’d die or live, but if she disappeared like the poem and her song. That the thought would eat snow alive and tear him down one day. I love how later snow learns from the 10th game, the districts train cars and living quarters get better and better depending on how wealthy your district is. And I think that's because he has seen twelve and felt bad that Jessup died due to the horrid train ride and he no longer puts them on display like they were in the zoo. Though that doesn't excuse his actions later, but he learned from Lucy gray that what they go through before the games will affect their performance in the games, gives them more to watch (sadly). I a So hate how Tigris tried her best to keep snow from becoming his father, but in the end she no longer called him by his nickname and still stuck with him until he deemed her unattractive after all she did for him. There is a theory that katniss is a relative of either Lucy Gray or one of the other covey members as there is too many similarities between the two. Many say Lucy gray is a performer who was forced to fight and that katniss is a fighter that was forced to perform. I loved your reaction, it made me see new things since I watched it in theaters and haven't seen it since. Your analysis of it is so interesting and I would love to hear your thoughts after reading the book. Keep up the good work and make sure you take care of youself.

I'm guessing they allow them to go see and do a strategy in the arena bc they didn't have where to hide or anything, by this time it wasn't about surviving, it literally was just throw them there and they would have just physical fights, so for it to last a little at least they needed some strategy or they wouldn't last at all, it wasn't even usual for them to last an entire day (that's why these games were still kinda shitty). It was after the bombs that everything changed, probably from where they got the idea to make the games longer and in different places where they also need to survive, hide, etc.

Nah that’s false. He wasn’t coughing up blood, he was just paranoid and assumed it was poisonous.

why would you blame Marcus for wanting to run away??
@CaitybTV
@CaitybTV 9 ай бұрын
I didn’t “blame” Marcus for running away. He said “he wouldn’t save you” when Lucy was trying to help snow and that’s why I said for him to be better than that. That’s the whole reason behind everything In my opinion. It’s the way we treat each other and this way of thinking that it’s become an endless cycle…so that’s why I said what I said. Nobody was blaming Marcus.

@@CaitybTV Marcus was just bought for the reaping, ripped away from his home, starved and put in a zoo for people's entertainment, he was one day away from being thrown into an arena to fight to the death. He had absolutely no reason to trust the capitol's people, to risk his life for theirs, to want other tributes to do it in the place of running away. Also, he was right, Snow is a capitol creature, he would have never risked his life the way Lucy Gray did to save her, he was too selfish even at this point of the story and we all know what happened with the two of them later. What he said and did was completly justified, it doesn't deserve to be judged by a "you can do better" when not really in his mind state that is fair for his situation. And I get what you say about how they treat each other and the cycle, but it's just unfair to tell Marcus he just can do better than that when he was running away for his life and trying to make others aware they can too.

@davidfairweather3301 9 ай бұрын
I always love people trying to compare battle royale and the hunger games. They aren’t the same. The only thing that makes them similar is the idea of a death games which isn’t even unique to battle royale. It’s derived from the gladiatorial games in Ancient Rome. If you read the hunger games books, a lot of the themes and politics revolve around Ancient Rome.
