As a Bok supporter - tough game for the Welsh, but I so respect the effort they put in throughout the game. Top attitude. Your captain seems like a top bloke. A few years ago the Boks were really struggling and lost some shocking games. They built over time and are now in a great place. I get that Wales may not have the same depth. But they have the heart and the passion and the character to bounce back. And world rugby needs Wales to bounce back. Botham, Morgan and Lake deserve special credit from todays game. And credit to the Welsh supporters for sticking with their team throughout. All the best for the Six Nations, mate. I enjoy following your reviews and videos, so looking forward to whats to come! Thank you!

The doldrums Wales are in right now is due to the lack of vision from the board, years ago. Gatland has seen this movie many times: you have a team full of experienced individuals, but these guys eventually get older and are then forced to retire. I'm 100% sure that had Gatland been able, he would have started bleeding talent a lot earlier, so that his frontline choices had a backup. Yes, it would have meant that Wales would maybe drop a match or two that they could otherwise have won a few years back, but that is short term pain for long term gain. Unfortunately both the board and the fans were too fickle, being only results driven and not paying any mind to the rainy days of the medium-term future. Well, were here now and it has been a disaster. Blaming a coach who is not performing with a team that averages 14 caps per player is an extremely myopic view. Nobody is going to become an Etzebeth, a Dupont or a Kolbe overnight and it's time that the Welsh stakeholders (management, media pundits and fans) start recognising this fact. Viewed through this prism, Wales performed better than expected this past weekend; they were decimated at the scrums and suffered a lot of front foot ball being given away, but they defended like Trojans. This might sound patronising, but the fact that the Springboks - a team bristling with double world cup winners - couldn't score at least 70 with that amount of ball and attacking opportunities is a huge credit to the defense. To any Welsh fans, go do your self a favour: go look up the Brighton Miracle, the match where Japan beat the Boks. Look at South Africa's lineup on that day. Then go look up the Boks losing to Italy in 2016/2017 and look at their lineup. Then go look up the Boks worst defeats against New Zealand, 57-0 in NZ and 57-14 in SA. Look at those lineups. You might be shocked to see names like Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Siya Kolisi, Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff, Damian De Allende, Faf De Klerk, Willie Le Roux, Jesse Kriel in there, not just once, but multiple times! As unfathomable those names sound in conjunction with such dismal results, YES, the Boks faced humiliation after humiliation from 2015 to 2017 (also due to poor management). Gatland is a great coach who has been given not just a poisoned chalice, but a radioactive one. Let. The. Man. Cook.

Surprisingly not as bad as expected today. (Some) of the boys fought really hard today. We could’ve totally capitulated after the 3rd try but the boys were alright. Man for man we were totally dominated and outclassed and that’s just where we are right now. This hasn’t given me any hope for the 6 Nations but today could’ve been ALOT worse. I think the Saffas were pretty poor for the second half which made us look better than we were. I dunno, man… it just feels so flat right now. One INSANE stat from today is that we MISSED 46 tackles. That basically half of the total tackles that SA made the entire game (93)

Well you said my fear that we could lose by as much as 70 to 80 points creased you up , when you read it.Luckily the second half of the game became fragmented which suited Wales, and we end up with a "respectable" 45-12 loss, I would have taken that beforehand, Wales players to their credit never stopped trying ,and as you said South Africa never hit their game today . I understand the WRU AGM is coming up, but it will be like how politics is run these days, when their found out, statements are made that "lessons will be learnt", and then the circus goes on in the same manner, maybe with a token resignation to appease the public. Nobody is better at sticking there heads in the sand than the WRU !.

I thought Wales played as well as could be expected for a team that was under enormous pressure. They showed some pride and limited the damage which is all that could be expected under the circumstances. Wales performance didn't make me sad, the fact the Bokke didn't play their best game also didn't make me sad. What did hit me hard is you not seeing any way forward and being resigned to the future being no better. If the Wallabies can pull themselves up after their devastating performance at the world cup and many months afterwards why can't Wales?

I'll give Gatland the 6 Nations to turn it around. One thing he definitely needs to stop is kicking possession away constantly , I get it we don't want to be under pressure in our own half, but these top teams counterattack with ball in hand and we pay the price, we look half decent in attack but we need to keep the possession. Freddie Thomas looked good he's a big lad and weren't afraid to get stuck in. In regards to the 10 jersey Costellow just doesn't seem there yet. we need Jarrod Evans as our other option. My team for the 6 Nations 1 - G.Thomas 2 - D. Lake 3 - H.Thomas 4 - D.Jenkins 5 - F. Thomas 6 - J. Botham 7 - J. Morgan 8 - M.Morris 9 - R.Williams 10 - J. Evans 11 - R.Dyer 12 - K.Williams 13 - E.James. 14 - . B.Hathaway 15 - T. Rodgers Bulk them up. Whip them hard Shaun Edwards style. They seem to be going soft.

I understand the calls for Gatlands head but the issues run far deeper. Who’s to say another coach would get a tune out of them. Who would also want the job. Steve Tandy has been thrown around a bit. He’s done a good job overall with Scotland’s defence . But head coach material ? Nothing against him as a player but the Ospreys parted ways with him. If he got the Welsh job that would sum up Welsh rugby.

Positives are Morgan, Lake and Botham have all performed well this autumn. When Jenkins is back it will be interesting who gets the captaincy, i personally think Morgan should have it back but we have 3 great options now. Seriously need to cap Tom Botha just to steady that scrum and try and build something around it, bring in Morris and Ratti as carrying options, Ratti should be in ahead of Tchuinza and Plumtree for me much more abrasive and powerful second row/6 option and We need an 8 and Morris is the only specialist in Wales at that position.

Hi Christian, We give it what we can, but south Africa played a good game, they out played us. As a new team with not may caps in the team this team is going to take a good year or so to get back to start winning games we need more experience and we don't have it now as the best have left us, this is our best team now. This is no fault of Warren Gatland and the coaching this team of ours need to start to gel together. Personally I don't wan't Warren to go his is a good coach, I'm with them with the winning and i'm here for the when we losing, i'm not a fan who's with them when we are winning and then start slating them we were losing, don't get wrong i'm gutted, we don't go out there to lose a game we give it what we can and at the moment its not good enough we are playing against top teams who have plenty of experience. If Warren does go who will replace him, and who will want the job it isn't going to change the situation. I think Warren Gatland is the man for the job, just my thought. But when players are judged as not good enough when never given a chance whilst other players are constantly under performing, I think it’s unforgivable. I’m pretty sure if Gatland does stay, he has no idea his starting 15 for the six nations. Full back will probably be Liam Williams because he’s still miles better then anyone else. Wingers aren’t nailed on, centres aren’t nailed on (didn’t rate Thomas or Llewelyn this autumn), fly half is still an ageing Anscombe. 9 still Tomas. Botham seems to have played his way in on merit to a back row with Jac and Aaron. Second row Beard and another (Rowlands was poor). Loose heads were ok, Dewi was good and poor Archie just got a wake up call. I think we need Henry Thomas in the 23 at tight head.

Yeah, I think it’s time for him to leave. I don’t see him being able to freshen things up by the six Nations and I think we could be staring down the barrel of another white wash. The only reason I would be happy to see him stay is if the WRU intend to get rid of him come six nations but want to give themselves a few months to actually do their job and find a suitable long-term replacement

This is not a cycle Wales are going through but a malaise decades in the making.

Shane Lewis-Hughes big physical defensive player would’ve helped a lot, Jake Ball get him from Japan back in there could’ve done with him, Taine Basham attacking back row he would’ve helped. There’s a lot of overhyped jobs in there not going to mention them would be too brutal but I think if we use our brain we would see some in there who shouldn’t be in there

Felt so sorry for Archie Griffin who had to walk off in front of thousands of people in the ground and millions watching having just been smashed in the scrum and clean lifted off his feet, his day will come but that will scar him for a while. Jac Morgan and Botham were fantastic and its such a shame the pack around them are not up to standard, I know there's a call for gats to step down, and a new coach may freshen things up but the system to produce enough quality players is not there, our front five lake aside is not good enough no decent no8, it always starts upfront and our scrum and line out both turned to mush. I don't know were we go from here, I don't think anybody does, we must get the right foundation in place to improve rugby matters across the board, and I'm not convinced we have the ability to do that , why is it that when players come into camp their fitness and conditioning is not up to standard, why is it Gatland then has to try to get the fitness levels up, why aren't the regions doing that, there seems to be a total disconnect between the regions and Wales when one should be hand in glove. I'm afraid that we have become minnows in the rugby world and where will the next win come from, because its impossible to see how.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast3 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree about the fitness Clive. It’s should be a given at this standard. No sure what the excuse is for that tbh. No idea what the answer is moving forward, I do think getting someone in to replace Gats is a potential start but who would come in and help things I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️

The fuck was up with their kit. jesus. Should've just abandoned the game once they pitched up in those ugly jerseys. That was the most embarrassing thing of the game. Those welsh lads held their own physically against a mean bok machine. In a few years Wales could be world beaters.... just need experience and some fine tuning. I feel it’s an unfair assessment of Ben Thomas. It’s his what 6th cap and his 3rd start at 12 for Wales. Give him time. International level defence at 12 is extremely hard. He got caught making the wrong read and that made him look not physically capable of being a 12 at this level because he had to make desperate tackles. Like with the entire team he needs time. He’s being developed at international level
@TheWelshSportsPodcast2 күн бұрын
I take your point. If you watch my my videos I love Ben Thomas. Always praise him. I want him to do well just felt he’s been bellow his high standards that all

It sounds a bit condescending from a South African… like a big brother patting you on the back for trying… but I thought that Wales showed the one things that can’t be coached- heart/pride. With this in place, Wales can be back to parity within a year.

Make our school children play rugby.Kids in New Zealand and S.Africa have to play rugby and they do as they're told.
@jerrybuirski2344Күн бұрын
In South African primary schools the kids play barefoot. I remember many cold mornings when the grass was white with frost and our footsteps gradually filled up the field. Up on the highveld the grass are brown in winter and the fields as hard as concrete. By the time we got to high school most of us had already at least three years of rugby behind us.

Best Welsh team going towards 6N. 1. N. Smith 2. D. Lake 3. T. Francis (cap rule) 4. T. Plumtree 5. D. Jenkins 6. A. Wainwright 7. J. Morgan 8. M. Morris 9. R. M- Williams 10. O. Williams 11. K. Giles 12. J. Hawkins (cap rule) 13. O. Watkins 14. M. Grady 15. L. Williams (cap rule) 16. E. Dee / S. parry 17. G. Thomas 18. S. Thomas 19. T. Williams / A. Beard 20. J. Botham 21. K. Hardy / T. Williams 22. S. Davies (cap rule) 23. J. Hathaway / T. Rogers Players I’d bring for experience or future prospects 1. K. Mathias 2. E. Lloyd 3. 3. D. Lewis 4. B. Carter / J. Fender 5. F. Thomas 6. A. Mann 7. H. S- Deaves 8. M. Morse 9. E. Bevan 10. D. Edwards / I. Lloyd 11. R. Grace / J. Adams 12. E. James / M Llewellyn 13. M. Page / L. Hennessey 14. O. Lane / T. Cabango 15. J. Beetham Hopefully Scrap 25 cap rule. Sack Defensive and attack coach. Or bring in new coaches all together. Probably T. Booth of Ospreys being the best option. Players who need to move on from the team - W. Rowlands no impact and more exciting players in his position. - S. Costelow, better form and just play time at scarlets. - C. Tshuinza needs to find his best position. Is he a 4,5,6, or 7? - G. Anscombe is he the future with his injury record and age? Love him as a player but maybe time to move on? - R. Dyer leave the dragons for a better club. Needs a win, plus probably better players in his position. - R. Elias fourth choice hooker needs dropping. - B Murray season or 2 for the scarlets. Too small atm, better as a fullback rather than winger. - C. Winnett great going forward, improve Defensive ability. - A. Griffin needs to play more at club level. Experience. - K. Assiratti Just not good enough for international rugby. - T. Reffell needs improvement with going forward, also too much competition for role. - R. Williams good player on his day. No Future for Wales though. - N. Tomkins Why in the team? - B. Thomas might be better as a 10 for Wales. Can’t defend physically however. Can’t play 12 for wales.

Pretty sure Gats was winless with the chiefs. Keep Gats but as director of Wales Rugby, then appoint a new coach who can make changes quick “Michael Cheika” we need a coach who can get the lads to play an expansive game, that’s what will suit us rather than Warrenball. Then maybe even get Nigel walker out and get Sam Warburton in who is aligned to the modern game much better than Nigel as much as he’s trying his best I think he’s disconnected and not really respected either

That’s an interesting point actually. I think it’s all linked with the lack of investments from the WRU. Just not been good enough has it
@westy80653 күн бұрын
@TheWelshSportsPodcast yes mate which was why they stopped it, as they wanted the regions to have all players available all of the time, contracted players could only play about 12 games a season, if I remember correctly, for their regions!

Wales rugby is a cash cow when the results are coming in even people who don’t follow rugby get into it out buying pints and merch etc the WRU would do well to remember that and invest in the regions and grassroots it’s time for a complete overhaul and start from zero

Wales should never, ever concede wearing the red shirt at home. Ever. Regardless of the reason.

sorry, dont know your name? Are you Gatland in or out? (yep, more to it than that)
Gatland (and his coaching team) have to go, the cap rule has to go, and we need a total reset on who gets selected to play for this team - without all of the current prejudices and limitations.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast3 күн бұрын
I think the coaching team needs a change. Sounds like he wants to stay though. Not sure the WRU will pay him out of his contract
@howardjones11803 күн бұрын
Shame. I reckon Gatland’s selections are holding the team back. So no doubt that a change of coaching staff would help with both defence and attack, I want to see a fresh approach to selection that doesn’t have Gatland’s predetermined ideas.

They never gave up but...basic fitness is the responsibility of the individual...managed by the region. If your not fit enough you don't deserve the salary. Fitness is the most basic requirement to do your job. Time with the region and with the national team can then concentrate on team skills. Our front five need to go back to school. None of them make even a metre after first contact and none of them even present the ball within 3 seconds so we will never get fast rucks, which means the opposition will always be aligned and our backs cannot attack without kicking. To sum up the players who don't meet the fitness requirements should be named because there is no other form of jeopardy in the Welsh structure.
@jiffy233 күн бұрын
It's down to the regions to install a culture where being nothing other than 100% is acceptable. There is a huge gap by the u20's.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast3 күн бұрын
Fitness lays with the individual but the regions need to shoulder some of that blame. The whole state of affairs just isn’t right atm. Not sure what the answer is tbh
