Can you say ferocious???? These girls brought me back the love of REAL music and it still amazes me that a crazy waitress at a Maid Cafe gets the idea to start a rock band wearing maid outfits, then she just happens to find one of the most talented original songwriter and guitarist on the planet WHO just happens to k.now AKane who is the most talented creative and musical drummers ever to exist (Sorry 68 year old jazz fusion prog rock drummer from way back and this girl is amazing). So Akane just happens to have gone to music school with Misa, insanely talented. Oh and after that they decide to add a more powerful vocalist and just happen to find Saiki. WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS THAT THIS HAPPENS????????

This is probably their song where more things happen at the same time. This is a gift for any music lover, there is so much into it that you can spend a long time marveling at finding its various hidden treasures. Many people say it is chaotic and it is not true. Galloping, franctic, tight, intense, whatever you want ... but perfectly planified and written. Probably one of Miss Tono's best writing pieces. The vibrant guitar, drums and bass work is kaleidoscopic, no chaos here, it's almost pure geometry. I am quite impressed by the writing of this song. Tremendous.

Absolutely masterful composing, but also some really great lyrics and perhaps one of the best jobs vocally from both Saiki and Miku. Their voices are other instruments here. The phrasing, the harmonies, the speed and the adjustments to their voices to the music being played and the others vocals at any given time is pretty F-ing awesome.

Kanami writes the 1st draft of the whole song, but once they receive the demo, basically Akane decides on the drums, MISA the bass and Miku and Saiki the vocal melody. That;s why their song credits is always "Band-Maid" instead of "Kanami Tohno". Not taking anything away from Kanami because she IS the musical mastermind... but the reason it's always so good is because they ALL have critical input and the demo is never the final product.

Important. That's the right word. When I tell people this may be the best band since the Beatles, they think I'm kidding. But they are like the Beatles in one key way: They always surprise you. They keep coming up with new ideas and pushing the boundaries. Even the greatest bands of the past 40 years didn't do that to this level. 100+ songs and counting, not a single dud, and no repetition. It's crazy.

Not a big secret anymore that Kanami is the key writer of their music pieces as well lyrics. Miku is active on the lyrics but Kanami is the driving force. It's still surprising to me to be surprised by new Band Maid songs. This one was a surprise to me because I noticed immediately that there is an evolution in the choices being made, most prominently in Akane and Kanami's parts. Akane seems to have moved to a point where instead of playing tight/minor variations on her lines she's making much larger Changes in her choices while still maintaining the core patterns. Kanami's work is work is enlightening: as Miku's rhythm and harmony playing has evolved Kanami is now hinting at different modalities in her playing.

Oh man, did you save my day with this video. Your reaction at the beginning of the video is pure gold! 😂 I myself reacted nearly the same way to the first few seconds and thought exactly the same. "I wasn't ready!". I paused at almost the same place and made myself a coffee before I started the video from the beginning. And I needed this short break to process what I just heard. I got up with the thought "what chaos", but when I was standing at the coffee machine in the kitchen, I had the melody already in my head and my legs moved by themselves, like yours did at the end of the video. When I realized that, I knew that this was anything but chaos, but musically something special. And what fun I had after the restart of the song! I still wonder how many energy drinks Akane had before the recording of this one, or did Misa mixed something from her little whiskey bottle into her coffee? 😂 She's going absolutely crazy behind those drums. I think this song is pure fire and you said it best "fantastic musicians, incredible songwriters and great executors." 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻

This song absolutely belongs to Akane and Kanami!! Mincho brought in a riff that is VERY similar to the one she wrote for Screaming, and Akane just DOES. NOT. STOP!!! I think the other thing they have done that enhances the song is that they brought MISA's bass up a little more in the mix to give it a more "live" sound. Last band I can think of that did this and absolutely elevated their on-album sound was Lacuna Coil when they released Karmacode when Marco used his live rig and sound setup in the studio.

For me it is typically a music for an opening anime. It really sound like others i used to see. It is typically sonding "japonese", i meant it has the sound i can hear in anime and movie. And i have the feeling it is written for a younger audience, i mean under 30 (speed, distorsion, no solo, etc). BandMaid has a huge amount of fans that are older than 40/50. I guess some will not like it but it's not a problem. Don't be long is for them: an other masterpeirce from BM. A last word about the lyrics: smart, of course speaking of the anime but... you can't take it for life in general. A+

I always enjoy your analysis. Your like a jazz commentator only you do rock. Very insightful, very enjoyable. To me, being an old progger, this has a lot of prog leanings; it's very abstract in a lot of ways and lyrically it's like a declaration of war practically. The pandemic was here and we couldn't do what we wanted, but watch out. Here we come again only harder and better.

You described it so well "organized musical chaos". Another awesome reaction chase, your analysis still helps me understand why I am enjoying the songs I listen to. You and your reactions are a gift to anyone who enjoys music. Thanks Chase and have a great night and better day tomorrow.

The first listen totally went over my head coz I was too excited. But by the fourth listen, the only thing going through my head was “someone get Chase on this track already” 😅 I’m honestly not a big fan of ‘organised chaos’ as they are often beyond my comprehension to fully appreciate. Fortunately the main riff, the bass part on the pre-chorus and the chorus all sounded melodic enough to me, though separately. In my head, it feels like I’m constantly shifting gears and barely managing to not get left behind by the song’s pace. The frantic energy in this track is enough to make me shed a few pounds of neurons. Anyways thanks for reacting. I can finally see the light!.. Btw you’ve got to check out their instrumental “Don’t be long” which was released simultaneously with this on spotify.

Not just silly faces and "wow" comments. They are really professional review videos and shouldn't be lumped in with all the low quality "reaction" videos .

Lately, you've become more aggressive. It's fun to feel the passion for it, too.👌 I think there's a reason why your video views are growing. I was waiting for this! I knew when BM released this video. That it wouldn't be long before the fans bombarded Chase to react, and break it down. Wait! Me too! I'm a fan!!! Can't even count how many times I have watched their video. And listened to the track. Knew you'd have fun breaking this down. Yep, loved the reaction and breakdown. Loved it ever since the first listen. And love it even more since. Like you said, as a band they are incredible. Every member is as important as the others. From Akane killing it on drums! Misa's gorgeous bass lines! They sound magical! Kanami's song writing ability, and lead work. Are just phenomenal! Saiki's vocals, and Miku's backup vocals are also exceptional. Not forgetting Miku's guitar work has improved greatly. I daresay that she could play a guitar solo herself these days. Pity, I don't watch much anime. Hay Chase! Do you reckon Julia would like to react to the vocals on Different? Anyway, I loved how happy this new song made you. Not that I expected anything different.

Chase, I was not ready either. What an amazing song! 3 minutes 35 seconds of pure intensity, especially for Kanami, Misa and of course Akane. What an insane rhythmic and speed. Virtually no downtime. This is truly an act of bravery. And Kanami, Oh My God, what a job from start to end! Edit: I did not analyzed the lyrics yet, but maybe this track should have been called "Showtime". And the little break at the end to let the word "Showtime" explodes is just perfect. And by the way, this is by far the most interesting analysis I watched regarding Band-Maid. Thanks a lot for that.

I live in St. Petersburg Fla. As I Listen to you describe this video, is a lot like my daughter describing Salvador Dali paintings to me. At first I saw nothing more than a melting clock, and thought it was "cool." But as she described what was happening behind the scenes and I was able to open my mind to "see" it. I was even more appreciative of the art. I truly realized what I was missing.
