I’ve read in an interview that Kanami often organises this “Riff elections” where she comes up with tons of riffs and makes everyone vote on their favs. Then she uses those elected riffs to write songs. Btw Kanami is also the Arranger so pretty sure that the outro was her meticulous self getting those details to standout like that. Newer fans might overlook this but as someone who went through their whole catalogue multiple times, there were 3 things they’ve never done here. 1) Miku’s ‘war cry’ (there’s a lot of these and others in the new album) 2) The way they spaced out the bridge after the solo and didn’t let it drop till the last verse comes in. 3) That style of outro Just those alone and the absolute groove magnet this track is, made me pick this as my fav from Unseen world, even over “H-G-K” which imo is the best overall track.

Album SPOILERS!! I've only listened to "Unseen World" once for now. "H-G-K" and "I still seek revenge." are the only two tracks that I wasn't sure I really liked. There is a lot going on in these songs so I'll try to be more focused for my next heavy plays. "Ambition" is another track I have to check more because I thought it was just ok. But the other tracks are pure fire! You were talking about Kanami's riffs and in this album she's being very busy. My favorite riffs, for now, are "NO GOD", "After Life" and "BLACK HOLE". "CHEMICAL REACTION" has another great riff and it's even more stadium rock than "Manners". "Nightingale" is the best Miku's song IMO. Her voice in the chorus reminds me of Misaki's voice from the band Sokoninaru. "Why Why Why" could have been called "Wah Wah Wah" with those nasty riffs. I love this song. "Giovanni" is a great song too. My favorite song is still "After Life" but it's mainly because I've heard it a hundred of times 😅 MISA is grooving like never on this album. Akane...man she's a machine. She's beating those drums non stop. There isn't a slower song on this album (and that is a real surprise for me) to give her a little rest. But what really shines for me are the vocals. The vocals harmonies, all Miku's screams and a lot of innovative ideas we've never heard before from BAND-MAID. Saiki's english is better, her voices is magnificent on every song. I can't wait to hear them perform these songs live!

@@2abug [Unseen World, My opinions/short review ] So this might change in time but here’s my favs from Unseen World after listening through for around 6 times. All lists are sorted by order of personal preference. Manners H-G-K After Life No God I Still Seek Revenge Warning! Black Hole Why Why Why Honkai Sayonakidori Giovanni Chemical Reaction Specific details that stood out to me: Intro: I Still Seek Revenge No God After Life Giovanni Outro: Manners (by far, easily among my fav till date) H-G-K Main riff section: H-G-K No God I Still Seek Revenge After Life Chorus: Warning! H-G-K No God After Life Pre-chorus: Manners (by a mile again, so good) Bridge: Manners & H-G-K (Manners would’ve gotten another “by a mile” if it wasn’t for this piece of brilliance) Vocals: Overall- Manners Why Why Why Saiki- Manners Miku- Why Why Why Lyrics: This will have to wait till official ones come out but Manners still takes the win for their best ever Japanese-English alternating lyrics. Nothing feels awkward or lost in translation, perfectly blending with the vibe, flow and attitude of the song. It even nails the context of the MV dropping right before Unseen World dropped. If there ever was a Madiac Anthem, this should be it. Drum work: H-G-K (Akane going ham on the 2nd verse was epic! Also, the way she matched Kanami’s intensity towards the end of the solo was so well timed) No God (This was supposed to be Misa’s highlight but She just took it for me. I could hardly focus on anything other than her insanely catchy and gut-punching beat throughout the whole song) Bass work: No God (Obvious choice :) I Still Seek Revenge After Life H-G-K Manners Guitar work aka Solo Time: H-G-K (Handsdown fav solo, this song was pretty much Kanami doing everything she does best. If I had to pick their best representative song for the “Signature BM sound” at its current finest, this would be my pick. This has everything that got me hooked to BM initially and everything else I’ve grown to love) After Life (This was Kanami’s pick too :) Vibe/Groove: Manners (This replaced my previous all time fav “Turn me on”. So much groove that they had to add it to the lyrics itself 🤣 Also, Miku screaming “Yeah yeah yeah” to kickstart the solo buildup is such a mood, gets me everytime) WTF moment: Giovanni (The way Saiki came in and honestly the whole song. I’m still in the process of deciphering what they did with this song so.. ) Best Overall Moment: H-G-K - That flawless transition from the chorus to the solo and to the bridge esp. how the solo tapered off to the bridge. It didn’t even feel like a transition but more like an extension of the chorus. And that flow was maintained till the end of the song. Exceptional craftsmanship! Kanami clearly outdid herself on this track. The other standout would be Miku’s vocals throughout the album. The squeals, growls, screams.. you name it 😅 she was everywhere and while some were rather amusing, in many places it was just perfect and added so much to the song. Sayonakidori was pretty great as well. Can’t wait to hear it live esp. that high note at the end. Overall WD is still their most solid hard rock album imo. Conqueror had a lot of new things I liked. And this to me felt like something built upon both of them, rather than branching out. This has more grit and aggression than WD and the new elements/sounds they introduced in Conqueror were used with much more finesse here. Manners is probably the one that benefitted the most from Conqueror. I can totally see it doing well in the charts. CONCLUSION- Unseen World is worthily their latest and their Best so far, in my books.

Only Band-Maid would turn the final chorus into a breakdown bridge into a new chorus, then go out on a _sotto voce_ hum-and-piano, jazzy, etheral couple of bars. I deeply love the second-verse changeup in this one. Really, every musical decision here was both a gift to us and a declaration of musical intent. Each one is homage to all the rock-and-rollers whose influence have made them who they are. The video for this one is fantastic, too. Just as the video for "Rinne" called back to the abandoned warehouses and handheld camcorders of the '90s scene, this video has elements that make me think of of R&B and groove rock videos from the '70s through the '00s. The pauses in the song seem tailor-made for gut-punching video moments, like Miku slowly turning her head during the beat after the first verse.

I think those that have been following them for a while will recognize the story of their journey and declaration of where they are headed from this point, in both the music and lyrics of the song. There are also many Easter eggs in the lyrics and video itself... older songs, MVs, album covers... When they write, it's not your typical A, B, A, B, C, A, B. Well, it sort of is, but they are done with different components playing. One of the things that really stands out to me is they add the descending "ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah" into the mix. Chase, I hope you see this. You are by far my favorite reactor and it comes down to something very simple. I've been a musician for close to 35 years but you have taught me to "listen differently." I thought I was good at finding the pearls in songs (especially Band Maid) but you showed me so much more in HOW you listen and how TO listen. You have called Band Maid "important" to music and I couldn't agree more. I hope you understand that you are equally "important" to the reactor community. Thank you.

Dear Chase mate! Greetings from an old geezer in Japan! First of all, thanks for your talented comments on talented artists ( it ain't an oxymoron! LOL)! What is remarkable about Band Maid is that they are exponentially improving, if you could use such an expression. Such incredible progress since their humble beginnings. Miku could not play a guitar, Saiki could not stop trembling at her mike... Bleedin' hard work and dedication! Mind you, these are typical Japanese traits. Meaning in the end that they are consciously bringing/contributing another dimension to rock (they are not the only ones!). Being French, I gave up on continental Europe rock. British rock (and Irish rock) is great but more and more part of history. These girls (you would be surprised to know their age! As an indication, Saiki is the young one!) are bringing new impetus to a genre sorely in need of it! Have you heard of Wagakki Band, a rock/traditional Japanese music group led by a woman! Another facet of growing Japanese talents on the world's scene! Keep it up, mate! We/They need your reactions!

AKANE: "Before starting BAND-MAID, I was working at a kind of "music bar" both as a hall staff and as a drummer. At the bar the tunes of 60s to 80s were mainly performed, and I learned about 600 tunes to play as a drummer, including disco music because we had to play various tunes and genres at the guests' requests. They loved rock music best, because many of them spent their teens during that time, I guess. That's why I learned a lot about "Classic Rock." Before starting to work there, I had an audition and I played "Highway Star" by DEEP PURPLE. This song gave me the chance to work as a drummer. More and more people requested "AKANE's Highway Star! " I owe very much to this song." (from MASSIVE Vol.38)

I've listened to the whole album three times since last night, and I'm getting to the point that I can say that it's their best album so far in my opinion. They just keep getting better. One of my favourite things about the guitar solos is that they appear short, but if they continued longer, they would risk repeating the first part with some minor changes like most guitar solos. This way, it's stays fresh. Edit: In a few of the songs, I think she might be using a baritone guitar too. That would set her apart from others for sure. (This is not a fact, just a guess. You could get some of the same tones by detuning or guitar effects. I just love that growly baritone guitar sound)

Band Maid said in an interview that they had two philosophies when writing this new album. The first being them wanting to get back to their roots insofar as asking themselves "what would our early songs like Thrill been like if we had written it", that's kind of the category where this song falls to me. The second philosophy was something along the lines of pushing the envelope and challenging themselves be it vocally or through more complex musical arrangements etc. edit: found the interview again kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHzZgmZqj76Hb6M

[Unseen World, My opinions/short review ] So this might change in time but here’s my favs from Unseen World after listening through for around 6 times.

I am really enjoying Miku’s contributions to the whole, and there are quite a few. Looking at the song lists of 12-14, depending on the particular edition of, Miku has lyricist credits for all but the instrumental Without Holding Back (she is also the solo singer on Nightingale), and songwriting is given democratically to Band-Maid, rather than Kanami, which reflects on their song creation and construction, although we know that Kanami is a core arbiter of brilliance. Unfortunately COVID is peaking again in Japan, so the February launch concert at the Bodokan (it was to be a reduced audience of 5000) has now been rearranged for later in the year. It was sandwiched between several Babymetal concerts, which have likewise been deferred
