Funny how most reactors see Hugh Laurie and say "Ooo, isn't that the doctor from House" Totally oblivious of the fact that he is appearing with the other half of the double act that made him famous, and allowed him to go to the USA to make House. Stephen Fry, from Fry & Laurie, or from when they played Jeeves & Wooster, plus the next two series of Blackadder where Laurie had major parts in 3 & 4

As a child, the ending gave me nightmares, wish I’d just switched off after the ‘pointless’ line, and believed Ludwig was gone forever

Same as me 😂 For a significant period when I was around 8 or 9 I couldn't sleep because of that ending scene. Over 30 years later and nothing has matched its effect on me since. I recently discovered that the sound that plays during that scene is the intro to "Funeral for a Friend" by Elton John.

Glad you enjoyed it. I don't know what it is about all of the series, but they really upped their game for the last episode. The last one of each series is noticeably better than the others. Just realised that I've not watched this since I learned some Spanish. Must fish out the DVDs and have another look! Hope you go onto series 3. It's fantastic. It's set in the regency period with Hugh Laurie excellently playing the prince. The fortunes of the Blackadder family have fallen somewhat, and he's now butler to the prince, with Baldrick as his dogsbody. Great cameos in the series from Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Robbie Coltrane, Kenneth Connor, Nigel Planer, Chris Barrie, Ben Elton and Stephen Fry.
