Reacting to BTS SoundCloud Songs! 💜 (1 Verse, Promise, Tonight, Winter Bear & Still With You)

Hey there!! I wanted to give a special shout-out to the AMAZING moderators of the Purple Markers Discord server, Diz and Emily! They do SOOOO many amazing things that help bring this community together, so I wanted to thank them with a request! In this video, I asked them to pick some SoundCloud songs from BTS that they think I should hear! They chose:
j-hope - 1 Verse
Jimin - Promise
Jin - Tonight
V - Winter Bear
Jung Kook - Still With You
I found out later, it was a secret plan of theirs to choose all vocal line solos (and the 1 Verse was already on the list, as I say in the video!) I am so happy with the choices they made, and I hope you all enjoy! Thank you again so much to Emily and Diz!! 💜

Promise is from Jimin to Jimin, he says that at first he was going to compose the song with sad/bad vibe because he was like in a bad mental state but then he mind change he didn't wanted to do a song that didn't reflect what he was feeling. You should see the vlive that he talks about this song

I remember jimin did a vlive just after winter bear released and he was saying that he sleeps peacefully listening to winterbear. And jimin was the one who gave those 2 bears to tae which tae than used it in the picture for winter bear. And jimin calls taehyung baby bear. 😭😭 These boys just make my heart melt. Since than I also listen to winter bear at night.. Like a lullaby. 🥺

I love all these songs but Tonight will always make me cry. Jin's sincere love and fear of losing his pets is something I've felt a lot since childhood but it reminds me specifically of my special girl, Patches. We helped nurse each other through a very hard time after she adopted us (she was our neighbors cat but after her owners daughter's family moved in, was getting very abused and so chose to live with us). She was grieving over the loss of one of her old owners and I was suffering from crippling anxiety. Tonight reminds me of all the times she would lay with me and be there to greet the day with me, all those happy moments that I cherished with her. One day I woke up and she was gone and I had to go lay her to rest in her fav spot in the garden. Jin's words and voice feel like an echo of that time to me.

Still with you is a song that JK wrote for Army, he is telling us how much he misses us, because of the pandemic they couldn't go on tour, and interact with us.

@25:45 For me, Winter Bear is like a poem. The blue macaw parrot is now an extinct bird in the wild. Bears doe not go away/die in winter, but hibernates and sleeps happily in winter which sounds although she’s passed- she is still with him just hibernating in his thoughts and memories for example when he says....”Imagine your face, Say hello to me, Then all the bad days, they're nothing to me, With you”. For me this song represents: those we love and lose do not ever actually leave us, they remain forever in our memories 💕😭✨🥰 Some ARMY interpret the song about his grandmother who passed away although V has never mentioned it, she is the blue parrot, V is the winter bear (Tae is Born in December, and his parents called him honey bear/baby bear). V also mentioned a sweet romantic scene from the movie “About Time” inspired the song as well. In the film, the protagonist can time travel so he tries to change his past to improve his future. (also notice he’s walking backwards towards the end of MV “rewinding time”, then forwards again at the end. Like he will always have the memories but he can’t change time or the past and must keep moving forward.

Also to explain the music video for winter bear... V takes pictures of the sky in different shots reminiscing the past in his life and even in some scenes you see him walking backwards and even scenes of ppl and the world moving backwards almost being stuck in the past but towards the end of the mv after he accepts the past, he decides that it’s time to stop reminiscing in the past and that he has to keep moving forward He directed the mv and its pure art

Ahhhh Landon THANK You for checking these songs on SoundCloud out! All are beautiful BUT OMG Jimin's Promise gives me chills. Did you know it was a song he wrote for himself as much as for fans to help them through self doubt and negativity. When the song came out Jimin shared how he would always struggle to show himself love, and how self deprecating thoughts would plague him. But in Promise, Jimin is counselling himself to be his own light, and that he shouldn’t be so hard on himself and hurt himself anymore. But since the song is also to fans, he is also telling us that we can be their own light and happiness. To not just depend on BTS, and to find our own strength and happiness. The last few lines of the song are so profound, he makes himself and asks us to make a Promise to love ourselves: to treat ourselves better, “Now make a promise to you/myself A number of times per day Even if you feel alone Don’t leave yourself.” We need to be there for ourselves.

So happy for Jimin!

Winter Bear hits me so hard every single time. It's so vulnerable but hopeful and raw and peaceful all at once. it's really what the feelings of missing and mourning feel like years later when you think of the person and the comfort they bring you and wonder how they are and wish peace for them.

I picked Jin as my favorite vocalist early on in my standom before I knew his background because it was just so emotional. It was the one that I heard and it touched me. And then I saw him live a month after I first even heard of them and he's PERFECT live and so emotional still and that solidified it for me. I love them all so much for different reasons but Jin has so much power in his instrument and it touches me. Also, Hobi is such an underrated lyricist. He's so clever and playful and insightful. I think it should be a rule that you can only react to his songs if you have DoolSet up right next to it.

Even though i've never had a pet Tonight always makes me tear up, jin's voice, his lyrics, the way we always see him goofing around and then he suddenly shows us his emotional depth is so profound and real and... just... lost for words. Jin once said as much as he wants people to listen to Tonight, he also kinda hopes people won't listen to it that much because its a really sad song and he doesn't want to make people especially ARMY sad. T.T I've never owned a pet in my 26 years of my life but I got a cat after hearing that song, and I remember him saying it's not an easy feat to raise a pet, it's a living breathing life form and you have to take responsibility for it. I wonder if that's why he no longer owns a pet, after losing Janggu, Odeng, and Eomuk. Must be really heartbreaking. I still remember his vlive when an ARMY asked him about his remaining pet Eomuk, he talked about Odengie who didn't survive, he tried his best not to be emotional but his voice really got emotional and choked up however since he knew a lot of us were watching he composed himself and tried to change the subject. I've only been with my cat for 5 months and it pains me already just thinking I might lose her one day. 😭

promise is my favorite song ever, it means so much to me jimin actually confirmed that in this song, he's talking to himself the song is about self love and perfectly ties in with his other solos (lie and filter) these songs go together because in every single one of them, jimin talks to himself. his views change throughout these songs, which is really interesting to see. in all of these songs, jimin seems to refer to his celebrity self as ''i'' and his real self as ''you'' in lie, jimin heavily criticizes himself for blaming himself for his shortfallings, to the point where he says he is constantly lying to himself saying he isn't good enough. But i wont go in depth now since you haven't heard it yet but be ready for a lot of rants when you react to wings lol in promise, jimin moves past this. instead of being angry at himself, he promises himself to try and be better. at the start, jimin reflects on the past, when did he start hurting himself? jimin want he wants to embrace both the good (light) and the bad (night). in the end, he promises himself to take care of himself, while also encouraging the listener to do the same. so yeah we all pinky promise jimin and ourselves to take care of us. Their SoundCloud discography are some of my favourite works from them. They're all so personal and touching and FAR too exquisite for me to be listening to them for free. In some ways it makes sense that they're not on paid platforms, they're songs made purely for the love of music and a want to express their feelings. On the other hand, they're so beautiful I want a wider audience to hear them.

“Still with you” was released by JK when they realised that their world tour was cancelled because of COVID. It was written to express his feelings about missing ARMY. The imagery of running in wet shoes in the rain reminds one of the incident he recalled in FESTA 2020, of a fight with Jimin at their dance studio, of how he got lost running, and Jimin waited for him in the rain to give him a big hug to make up... Still with you was dropped around the same time as their 7th anniversary celebrations.

Hey Landon, I really hope you get to see this comment! I'm putting a link related to Winter Bear you should REALLY see to cheer up! ☺️ After watching your reaction and looking at the comments I think you might like to know that there IS actually a somewhat lighter side to Winter Bear. The timing of Winter Bear's release seems like a clear tribute for Tae's grandmother, and it's definitely possible that it could be at least partly about her as a topic as a lot of people seem to speculate (although I haven't ever seen anything referenced so I'm not sure if Tae ever explicitly claimed that himself), and it can be lovely for people to interpret it as such if they choose imo. However, in one clip I HAVE watched of Tae himself discussing on VLive how he composed Winter Bear, he says the major inspiration for it was a proposal scene from the fantasy romance movie 'About Time', which he and the other members seem to have watching several times. (BTW, Tae is, or used to be, a big fan of Rachel McAdams 😆). He describes the scene, but it doesn't spoil the movie at all. ☺️ So from what he says in this clip, there is definitely a very tender and maybe even joyous side to the song that inspired the words. Personally I think a song is completed by the audience, and can very rarely have a rigid message unless it's incredibly blunt; music is such an ambiguous conduit for emotions, and everyone might receive or relate to something a little differently, and I think it's beautiful when a song can become personal to the audience as well as the artist. I'll admit that I hear a lot more sweetness in winter bear than sadness, but I knew about Tae's film inspiration before I read other people's suggestions, and I'm a sucker for movie and literature references in narrative songs. As a minor film buff and a Tae bias I also love the fact that he draws from such things - both his input AND output can be theatrical! Sorry for the epic comment, but I do hope you can read this and lift your mood a little 😁

One of my favorite interpretation on Jimin's Promise is that it was a song for himself and for ARMYs. It was a song reflecting on oneself and how hard we sometimes are towards our own selves. And as our desire to be better hurts us in the process, it is a promise that no matter how hard or dark it may be, we will not lose ourselves. I believe Jimin said Namjoon helped him in realizing the lyrics "I want you to be your light baby, you should be your light." and "I want you to be your night baby, you should be your light." Is the acceptance of light and night in someone's life. That the presence of both is necessary to grow and be better. It is comforting that he made this Promise to himself and he wants us to do the same. 💜 Also I feel like Soundcloud is BTS and ARMYs safe space. I love it there. 💜

BTS made me download SoundCloud. 1 verse is just... Unbeatable, so good, brilliant... I'm from the tropics too, so.. Promise is a comfort song for me. Just listened to it today! Tonight reminds me of staying at the hospital and staying up as my grandfather was struggling on the ventilator. He did not pass away that night but he passed away a month later. Winter Bear... These songs r all my favorites! I cry every time Tonight comes on! Just hits me every time, especially when the song came out, I was in a spat with my sister & she was really mad at me so we stopped talking for almost a yr. The lyrics just hit me so hard! This song is for his pets but it can actually relate to human relationships as well. So the backstory for promise. I’m not sure if you mentioned it 🥺 soooo he had been trying to make this song for a while but it was much negative. It was an angry song against himself. Then on citifield concert on 2018 he broke down crying. We were all 🥺. The this song came out. He said that day it all clicked for him and the title was born. He was going to promise to himself to be kind with himself. It became a healing song instead of an angry song 🥺💜 Im so proud of him and so grateful I got so see this journey 🥺💜

I didn't see comments about this (maybe I missed it): Still with you is the song that JK wrote for army. It is said in the soundcloud link to this song (soundcloud.com/bangtan/thankyouarmy2020 ). He posted it at BTS Festa 2020 - during the lockdowns, after all concerts were cancelled and all of us were confined at home. So when I listen to it, I imagine JK at home in a comfy clothes, looking forward to seeing us at the concerts again (he said before how his favorite performance was Euphoria - because he flew over the crowd and looked in the eyes of the armies; he also looks very attentively at armies during concerts, covering his eyes from the stage light with his mic).

I cried so hard the first time I heard Tonight while reading the lyrics. Every time I listen to it I still cry, it hits close home because some really close family members have passed away in the past 5 years, one a few months ago, so it makes me tear up, also the thought of losing my two dogs makes me really emotional. But I really love it because at the same time it comforts me. The emotion in his voice, the lyrics, the melody. Everything is perfect. Same with Winter Bear, it makes me feel so comforted, I love the melody. I didn’t know it was made for the 3rd anniversary of her grandma’s passing, but now I have a knot in my throat. The lyrics are so nostalgic and sweet, my emotions are all over. Also I adore Still with you. It’s my type of song. Everything about it is so perfect, I love the jazzy feeling, his voice sounded amazing, the lyrics were also nostalgic and I loved them. One of the best 2020 songs. And ht he fact that he wrote it thinking about armys and missing them because he hadn’t seen them for a long time, it’s so sweet

I have listened to these so many times, but listening to you listening to them made me cry sooo badly. . . I don't know why now????? 😭😭😭😭😭 1stly on Jin's song (broke me) . . . well my companion, my baby, my brat of a dog(Matilda) is turning 12 and the VET has advised that she is in pain due to cancer and that there is nothing they can do for her and I need to put her down. I don't want her in pain, but currently I just can't . . .I know I have to as a Pet Owner and someone that velues life, but just the thought of it is making me break down . . . So Love hearing Jin's love for his pets that resonates with how I feel. 2ndly V's WInter Bear. I listened to it the first time 2 weeks before the 4th anaversary of my moms death and found out the meaning behind it days later.
