Thank you so much, Sizwe. You always come through! It would be great to have a session exploring how economics and the markets influence public politics, laws, parliament, and governance. Are the markets a democratising force? Let us remember the relationship between the economy and the media. In South Africa, the mass media represents the interests of the capitalist class, shaping the public narrative. We saw this during and after the elections. Any political strategy that does not acknowledge the power dynamics within the economy and politics is unlikely to succeed in shifting the balance of political and economic power in favour of the oppressed people of South Africa. As a way forward, extra-parliamentary politics led by the oppressed is vital in achieving political and economic democracy.

There's no GNU here as portrayed to us, it's rather DA/ANC grand Coalition that includes other small parties... This arrangement is highly bounds to fail and ultimately collapse, merely due to the fact that both the DA and the ANC's Policies, Manifesto, Values, social alignments, and ideologies are diametrically opposed!!! It's like having your wife and your girlfriend in the same kitchen to cook using the same pot on the same stove or cooker... I doubt you would eat that food peacefully!!! 😂😂😂 It either they spoil that food or plot together to play you or else kill you. 😂 Therefore, on a serious note, such arrangement will likely fail to bear fruits... Unfortunately Service Delivery is at stake here.

Very interesting show tonight Prof Sizwe. My biggest concern is that the combination of ANC, DA and IFP undermines the well-being and welfare of the people of RSA as pointed out by some ANC members who are opposed to that arrangement especially with the DA and also by the MK and EFF. I foresee many hurdles and at some point a gradual fall out of those three parties. Why will Ramaphosa resume the position of President considering his involvement in the Phala Phala scandal? Already that puts him in bad ethical books as a leader.

I hate that a coalition is seen as the only path forward. The constitution makes allowance for alternatives. And who will be in opposition? EFF and MK (though I have doubts about that party’s longevity)? Not great news! The DA, who, let’s face it, are not representative enough to govern, was a worthy opposition, with the bona fides of holding the ANC accountable. I’d prefer to see an ANC minority government in a confidence and supply arrangement with the DA, who should still remain in opposition, whilst being given control of certain key portfolios, especially those related to infrastructure, to 1. Keep the ANC honest; and 2. Boost foreign investor confidence and kickstart growth

Firstly, thank you for trying to bring all of us unbiased political analysis. Also, thank you for being critical of mainstream media, I appreciate platforms like KZbin and channels like SMWX. With that being said, circa 02:31 minutes into the video you mentioned that you were going to present opportunities and threats of the proposed GNU or grand coalition as you have called it previously. For most of the 38 minutes all I heard was the threats that could be posed and undertones of your dismay that the EFF and MK party are not a part of the GNU. I believe your analysis could have covered more opportunities as well. Although the DA is not a popular partner for most in the comments section, there are obvious administrative, economic and inclusive advantages you could have covered. Everyone keeps labelling the IFP as sellouts to the African people, but perhaps this is the most selfless thing they could have done for the future of our people. The fact is South Africa heavily relies on foreign investment and yes, the markets do like the prospect of the GNU, because it is more stable than EFF and MK alternatives. Without a growing economy and GDP per capita, we will never be able to address living standards, jobs or get rid of the mjondolo. People don’t understand this and want to see popular leaders like Jacob Zuma in power who have taken so much from this country and its people, it’s criminal what he has done. So, Sizwe, let me not mince my words, I feel like you are biased towards the EFF and perhaps the MK too. I feel that you have slipped in this video. My hope is that cover the opportunities of the GNU (or coalition if you would like to call it that) has to offer our country and people fairly, because there are a lot of positive points to discuss. Lastly, let’s not forget that the DA has the second highest representation nationally. It is only right that they take their place in the new government, the people have spoken.

They did flip flop, extraordinarily so. You just choose not to believe it because it’s the DA. If this were the EFF you would be saying the opposite. The DA made it clear that the MCP was their new ally collective and they would never work with the ANC going forward. Yet here they are. Both Action SA and PA felt betrayed to the point where they axed the DA. Yet you claim there’s no flip flop. No flip flop to you because to you the DA are angels.

Working together of big business and politics is not against the interests of 99% of people. where did you get that figure? If the previous governements had done its job in creating jobs and more business, providing an environement for growth in this country would business need to step in. the reality is that businesses have to emply the best and most qualified people to succeed and grow their businesses. Our government is not made of the best and most comepetent people to build this country- if so we wouldn't be in such a big mess, and they wouldn't have to spend exhorbitant fees hiring outside consultants to their jobs for them. Unfortuntately the private sector has needed to get involved in helping the country becasue the government has proven incompetent- hence we have private security companies, growing abundance of private schools and so on becasue the government can't deliver.

I have been watching your channel throughout the election. I have also avoided consuming mainstream news for the exact reasons that you bring up in this video. Yet I still believe that the EFF and MK have the most radical and destabilising policy ideas compared to most parties. You can easily see this if you understand basic economics and have read their manifesto. To say that this "trope" comes from mainstream media is disingenuous IMO. I am in no way saying this to send hate your way or to the SMWX team. You guys have done a phenomenal job and your content thus far has been great. What I love about your content is your unbiased approach. However, I fear that the quality of your work has slipped slightly in this sense after watching this video and my hope is that it doesn't go downhill from here. Of course you believe that the EFF and MK would bring destabilization. You don’t want to share the land and the status quo benefits you, as it always has. So anyone who challenges that automatically becomes a threat in your eyes. But let me remind you that not a single country became what it was without challenging the status quo. Even America engaged in that very “destabilization “ you speak of to gain their independence

I appreciate your opinion on the dangers of excluding the EFF and MK from national and provincial govs, however I think there is a strong argument that the alternative is much more dangerous. Namely allowing parties motivated purely by racism, hatred and contempt for the constitution to have any power whatsoever. The large portion of our people who voted for these were driven by desperation rather than an agreement to the manifestos of EFF and MK. You can just look at JM's eyes and JZs track record to see the clear danger here. Hopefully the police are more prepared this time, and more importantly, sever the hold JZ still has on the SSA, which I believe was complicit in the riots of a few years ago. Lastly, I know you hate to hear it, but we desperately need foreign investment to grow the economy to lift our people out of poverty - only redistribution is not going to cut it as the far left seem to suggest. Appreciate your channel BTW! 🤙🏽

Just a friendly reminder that Sizwe is the son of a former EFF higher up named Dali Mpofu. So important to note possible conflicts of interest even if some of the analysis has merits. Also for MK KZN, its nice saying they should be in a coalition, first thing would be for them to finally recognise the results and rock up at the provincial legislature which doesn't seem to be the case... So sure in principle but in practice the MK also needs to get its act together.

Sizwe it is a known statistic that the EFF loses much of its supporter-base when people hit their 30s = when people mature, pay taxes + want stability in life (including a title deed that won't be lost through nationalisation!) unfortunately the EFF's public image of being mature is tainted by many of their own actions - Malema's authoritarian personality & hatred of minorities, EFF storming parliament stage, flip-flopping on policies. a good analysis for a new video could be what EFF must do for a brand reinvention to appeal to more than 10% of the population. I suspect they know this themselves - it was noticeable how Malema wore suits in the last few months, did interview with Bloomberg, Floyd got interviewed by RNB, & they tried to change public perception about what they intend for the country. however, reinventing a brand is a very very very difficult thing to do
@YT-xk5jl
@YT-xk5jl 8 ай бұрын
@lm_b5080 The only statistics that tells you that is your OPINION. There’s no real independent research to back that up. There are even old people who vote for and lead the EFF if you must know. Prominent EFF youth like Naledi Chirwa and Mafia Fane are past thirty and still very much prominent leaders of the EFF. Again, no proof of Malema’s supposed authoritarian leadership, you have never worked with him and only those who have worked in close proximity with him will attest to the fact that this is far from true. I do agree that the EFF needs to rebuild (not rebrand) its image. The agenda driven media funded and powered by the racist establishment has done a lot to misrepresent, misconstrue and vilify both Malema and the EFF
@tashansofwa2426
@tashansofwa2426 8 ай бұрын
@@YT-xk5jlwell the reality is that the eff has been unable to appeal to more than 9% of the population. That is bad. They’ve been around for 10 years, and are unappealing to the majority of voters. That like with the DA that can’t grow beyond 20% needs reflection. If these parties want to govern on their own soon they need a rebrand. Clearly South Africans don’t want banks, mines nationalised. Clearly they don’t want land expropriation without compensation. If they did they would have voted EFF, everyone knows what they stand for. And the majority of the population is uninterested in their policies. It’s a shame that the ANC despite its failings has been the party with the widest reach. Let’s hope these political parties sort out their brands or the opposition vote will continue to fracture.
@lm_b5080
@lm_b5080 8 ай бұрын
@@YT-xk5jl not talking about leaders, talking about the electorate. & i'm not attacking EFF - pointing out what i believe they themselves know their limitations are. most south africans don't want a violent revolution that ends in poverty like zimbabwe, cuba or venezuela. we also don't want a kleptocracy like russia. we are pro-democracy. i'm not even talking about media - i'm talking about what you hear directly Malema + Floyd say in interviews. right now it sounds like they want to be mini-dictators like Castro or Shavez. however, if they are pro-democracy + equal rights for all, they need to start communicating that. if they won't come & take anyone's home, then they need to start communicating that. if they won't destroy the Rand & cause hyperinflation, hen they need to start communicating that. if they want to grow beyond 9% they have to appeal to moderate south africans who are the majority

My criticism of the DA is that as apposition in government, all they seemed to do was appose. They couldn't recognize or endorse achievements by the ruling party at the time. There was no sense of a government working together for the sake and benefit of the people. Perhaps this is a chance for DA and ANC not to loose their identities but for both parties to bring their strengths for the benefit of all. To continue on where all we see in parliament is people lambasting one another for political gain doesn't serve our country.

The three major provinces will now have watchdogs in parliament governing with, rather than shaking their heads in disbelief at ANC arrogance as they drain the finances of the nation away. 40% is still a huge majority even though the ANC lost 17% of the electorate. My hope is that good governance is seen by the people in the coming years, and next time around... the voters will base their vote on who is best able to govern rather than basing a vote on colour, empty promises and factionalism. Waving a social grant in front of our poor has been disgusting. 30 years is enough time to grow up 🤔
