"Remember when I promised I'd kill you last? I lied..." I had a teacher in grade school who would quote Commando relentlessly, so it is ingrained in my memory for better or worse 😅 It's a lot of over the top action with a great cast (Bill Duke, David Patrick Kelly, and Dan Hedeya all delight in their scenes and deaths), a catchy steel drum soundtrack, and more one-liners than you can fire an endless barrage of bullets at (without reloading 😉).

Commando is an 80s action movie that knows exactly what it is, has no pretensions to be great art, and goes for it full-bore. Unlike most of these movies, the female lead isn't a useless screaming bimbo; Cindy is smart, brave, capable and keeps her head under pressure.

@@nigeldonaldson1647 Who is Donna Marie? Why is her name in completely unnecessary quotes? Who cares if someone has a drink? Especially when watching movies like this. What on Earth are you talking about? Why should it need mentioning that a random secondary character actually does something? Though....she DID mention it. And more than once. Did I miss some sarcasm or something?

i'd say when booze interferes with the quality/coherence of a review, is it worth watching it? especially when it's every time , & someone's speech is slurred because of it, & they sound silly & a bit cocky- arent I clever figuring out what's going to happen what does "movies like this" mean? I think COMMANDO is a lot of fun very tongue in cheek its not meant to be James bond or Indiana jones,( I hope that makes it plainer to you)@@ashscott6068

Its a matter of timing…. WTB started in 84…. Commando came out in 85 but unless you saw commando IN THE THEATER… its probably at least 87 before you are catching it on HBO…. 88 before its the 7/8pm movie on USS…. 89 before its on a UHF channel…. So alyssa would have aged to the point you wouldnt recognize her …… might as well apply the same logic to her WTB baby brother and CUJO…

Commando is one of those rare perfect movies. It doesn't waste any time in telling it's story nor does it overstay it's welcome once the conclusion is reached. Everyone involved is aware of exactly what kind of movie it is and had no pretensions of the story being taken seriously. The score is simultaneously oddball and brilliant (those steel drums!!!). Arnold is a force of screen presence all on his own here, with the Adonis-physicality of his musculature and relentless tapestry of one-liners spilling out of the screen throughout the entire movie and washing across you in a glorious embrace of peak 80's. And of course, Vernon Well's Bennet with his chainmail vest is a great foil, iconic on his own as well. For me, Commando is the purest an Arnold movie has ever been, and it never ever fails to entertain.

As many people before me have pointed out, _Commando_ may not be the best film that Arnie ever made, but it's definitely the most Arnie film that he ever made. The ending teases a sequel, but sadly there was never a Commando 2. The film made a good profit, so I can only assume that scheduling or money demands were too much of a problem. We can always pretend that Predator was the sequel! If you're wondering which Arnie film to watch next, I recommend one of his comedies (Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Jingle all the Way). They are all good fun.

Perfect reaction to this movie! So cheesy that it's great. Put it on, shut off your brain, and enjoy. One of my favorite scenes - if you look closely when Arnie blows up the building right after landing on the island, one of the soldiers is still standing. The cutout they used for the soldiers didn't fall over. Tough, bad guys I guess. I would recommend Total Recall for the next Arnie movie. Action, suspense, aliens, Mars, and 3 boobs! You just made my day! This movie is fried 80’s cheese. It’s impossible to not enjoy this movie. Another fun 80’s movie with Rae Dawn Chong is “The Principal.” Another with the actor playing Sully is “The Warriors.” The 80’s were my sandbox. I’ll never steer you wrong.

80s movies had some of the most awesomely stupid soundtracks, too. Why are they playing Caribbean 80s club music when he’s at a mall? 😂 Nostalgia is a crazy thing. It can make you overlook stupidity. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and some things only aged well if you have a memory attached to them. I find some of the late 90s stuff ages the best regardless. Not all of it, though. At least these action movies were shot for real and no blatantly fake CG was used.

"What a sleaze... What an absolute sleaze!" You should see David Patrick Kelly in the movie from six years before, and absolute gem of the seventies cinema, "The Warriors". If it's not yet on your to-watch list, it definitely should.

The scene on the beach were Arnie straps on all the weapons has been parodied at least twice (that I know of) once in the computer game "Worms" and once by Terry Pratchett in the Discworld Novel "Pyramids" in both cases they add one too many weapons and fall over.

7:03 "Right. Let's figure this out. What's gonna happen? How's he get out of this?" Yeah. Because _he_ knows the score. He knows, as long as these people have his daughter, they have no reason to _release_ her as long as he _cooperates._ His cooperation is more likely to lead to her _death_ than her _release._

Haha, so glad you reacted to this! "Commando" is my favorite one-man-army movie. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and is full of over-the-top action. The only thing I dislike is the casting of Bennett. I can't suspend my belief enough to take him as a serious threat to Arnold.

True Lies , True Lies , True Lies , True Lies , and this one great Arnie movie called True Lies which is one of the best spy/action movies ever made with a lot of humor and romance it's sexy and violent and after watching it at least two hundred plus times in my life it still has never gotten old or boring and I couldn't recommend it enough to people. Also if you haven't seen Conan the Barbarian or Red Heat I would recommend those two great Arnie movies as well 🤙🤙

Back when this came out, my friends and I considered it an action comedy, kind of a spoof of action movies that didn't realize it was. We had the most fun pointing out all the times Matrix would have been killed or injured, and all the other nonsense that went on.
