They are also addicted to their audience (“More” is at least partly about that). Addictions of many kinds are all over the place in their lyrics and this song is at least in part about addiction to the culture of consumption (Warning songs are rarely about just one thing).

Excellent analysis! I remember when this album dropped many fans complained about them evolving to something they were not happy about. The pressure to have them stay the course was real. Happily many seem to have accepted and championed this change in their music. So how can we best support them without trying to insist on our own biases? I think recognizing their art and relishing its growth is really all we can do. It keeps us from being a dirty little f.... Thanks again so much for this analysis.

Well, it is natural for us to have biases, but I think we should just be open and see which way the choose to evolve. I trust their process. When "More" came out, I was not as excited about the song as I had been for everything on their previous albums. With time, however, I started seeing their vision. I absolutely love KMF. People were not complaining about "them evolving", rather it's about the evolving direction they chose, this is due to how the new songs have formulaic tendencies and more pop nuances than their previous efforts. When you compare their previous albums they had mild progressive and strong classic rock elements to some of their songs that this album lacks and even though their songs sounded "pop" in nature, it was a bi-product of writing great rock songs rather than zeroing in on a specific type of genre. Go back and listem to Dull Knives or even Dust to Dust. Any hint of progressive rock elements was lost with their latest effort. I personally don't love it but I don't hate it as well. It's a solid 7.5, maybe an 8/10. Anyways, enough of me ranting. Let's go The Warning.
@markjames8664Ай бұрын
I think the number one thing is to stop jumping to conclusions about their future direction. Some people actually complained that Automatic Sun was pop trash based on the short teaser they released, before they even heard the whole song.

This is your best video on the Warning. I agree completely. They’ve started talking about some of this on interviews. The most interesting comment was the one about the plane getting ready to takeoff. On the runway the planes use the most fuel. Once the plane starts flying the fuel consumption goes way down. They said they could feel the wheels just starting to leave the runway and when they finally start flying they wouldn’t have to use so much fuel. So, yeah, it seems they are very aware of what’s going on.

I think there is an element of rebellion in this-not so much against their parents but against the fan expectation that they are somehow “clean” and not part of the world, a virginal escape from it (unfortunately some fans expect that literally, it seems sometimes). The fans who object to the F word are also often most likely to complain about their departure from what they consider “pure” rock.

Although the latter was already adult like deep in its lyrics while they were still young teens. The girls have literally grown up on social media. I don’t know of any other band with as much content uploaded for all to see and judge. It’s a double edged sword that they struggle to balance. When it comes to new The Warning songs and music, or videos, I am indeed a greedy little f... 😉🤣 Nice analysis, I enjoyed watching! I think, from all the younger bands I know, they have the most thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics. Consume, to me, has a connection with their song Money from Error... in both songs they see and criticise the greed, in Money even the rapacity, the addiction to have more (money, or consuming products), but they arrange with that in a hopefully healthy way, realize that they are part of this (Money: I pray he'll (god) wash my hands...We're human after all, Consume: I willingly participate). Thanks and greetings from Germany 👍🤘

TW's career has been so well documented for anyone who wanted to take the deep dive down the rabbit hole. Someone put it so well, that the rabbit hole is more like a black hole - because there is no escape. I think that it is a result of the three "automatic suns" that Dany, Pau and Ale represent who have combined into one through their artistic endeavors to create that black hole. It must be difficult for them to constantly be reminded of their childhood by their fans who want them to play their older songs, music that though it is part of their life and progress, it does not reflect where they are at the moment. They have said that revisiting their older stuff is akin to seeing pictures stuck to the refrigerator door that were drawn when they were very young. Certainly, they accept the past and have memories of it - mostly fond, I hope - but it must affect them to be constantly or at least frequently, reminded of the moments in life that most of us set aside as we mature. We put away our toys and other childish things for the sake of becoming an adult. The other downside of this is that unlike most of us who keep lots of our childhood memories as private or even secret, their fans know far more about them than perhaps they are comfortable. Tehy are frequently reminded of things they would maybe rather forget. They seem to take this in stride and even poke fun as their younger selves while appreciating that it was all part of the process of becoming who and what they are. Still, that has to be annoying, even more so as they smile and take it all in stride during Meet and Greets. They know they would be much less successful without their supportive fanbase, and their earliest supporters are largely responsible for many of their opportunities over their formative years as a band. Yes, they put in all the hard work and sacrificed plenty of time as they were growing up, foregoing many parts of growing up that others take for granted. It is some time they can never get back and yet, there has been a striking level of synergy between The Warning Army and The Warning in arriving them where they are, on the cusp of being superstars. "Consume" is creative on levels that I don't think I've felt from other songs. The lyrics can be interpreted many, many ways, almost as many ways as there are fans, I'm sure, and all of them are completely valid. To be able to create art at that level at their relatively young ages is more than a gift. It is genius. And I'll bet that when it comes out of Pau in a stream of creative consciousness, she is probably as surprised as any of us with the result. She has said that if she wasn't doing what she does, she would be a writer. I don't doubt that. And as a writer myself, I know that creating stories is not an option. It is a necessity that keeps the world in balance. 🐼

"Consume" is creative on levels that I don't think I've felt from other songs. ......." 1st of all, this is the time I thnak You for giving us the writting of 'The Warning' song and so on. I used to be a Church guitarist, bass guitarist, pianoist and a conductor of Sunday School. And a teacher of Violin. And a computer nerd..whew! a gamer. I paint, i make music, playing games. That's how I connect Pau. I dont do a lyrics but writting a music. Pau, she knows that way back to her composed of 'Black Hole', 'Breath' and 'Show me the light'. I don't know how she feel/feld at that time. But, what I understand is that I Paint, making music(not listening) that's my hide/vocation is. I think Pau, her deep deep deep emotion can come out of lyrics and a tune(she's great) sorry for my English I'm from Mizoram
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
Beautifully said. I agree that it must be hard for them to feel pressure to revisit and recreate moments from their past that they no longer align with in the way they once did. As a former dancer/choreographer - I totally get that. Artists are inspired by the moment and have a drive to move forward and create in a way that reflects their current perspective. It's hard for us, however, as the audience, to "put away" songs that bring us joy that DO align with our current perspective in the now. Songs are like friends. Therapy sometimes. Being as talented as they are, they have created a lot of "musical friends" that will live on for us, even if they've mentally moved past them. :) Like you said, creating is a necessity, not an option for an artist. Thanks for sharing!

I've started thinking of Consume and Satisfied as the twins. It's not just the music industry in view, it's all of us and the way we think. "God has given us all things richly to enjoy", but not to turn into idolatry and covetousness. The big problem in our culture, as always, is ingratitude. No society in the history of the world has lived as well as we do, but the more we have the less satisfied we are and the more we find something to complain about. Truth; I'm the problem.

Great questions in the end, but I don't have any answers either. 😄 I often observe how different of a picture people have of them. From the little rock girls/daughters, anticapitalistic garage band, industry marionettes, pioneers of womanhood, metal queens or the female beatles and many more. A lot of people project something onto them and I'm pretty sure that does not exclude myself. 😔 I'm just happy to see that they seem to be very self aware of what they are, where they stand today and what their goals are. And that they are realistic people who still can dream big. If I could ask them a question someday, I would want to know what ideals they had as children starting out (because children can be very idealistic) which they still hold up and which they had to let go over time due to the industry, money etc. or just reevaluation of things with age. Thank you for the well made video and a lot of inspiring thoughts! 🤟

It's tough because I think with all art, it fills a specific need for us - we are drawn to it for different reasons than others. It's a personal connection. Like you said, we project something onto them and then we can feel uncomfortable when they veer from that. I think with The Warning, we not only love their art, but we also respect and enjoy who they are as people. I have no answers either, but I think considering these questions are the first step :)

Great song, love this band. I love your analysis of the lyrics and I think you make some excellent points. One thing you touched upon was artists' willingness to engage their fans on other social media sites, and the dangers therein. I'm reminded of another artist who engaged her fans on Twitter(X) until the influx of fans had a detrimental effect on her mental health. What was once a positive outlet to have some one-on-one time with fans became toxic. There does have to be a line drawn between artists and fans or else everything crumbles. Nice analysis. Many of TWA have expressed concern about their health and worry about burnout hoping they get a break soon. Having a contract with a label is putting pressure that they did not have before. The need to be perfect seems to have been self imposed when younger and their early performances showed this (my favorite is their cover of "The Pretender") but it was their love of music that moved them to a high level of skill. Now it is expected and more public. It will be interesting to see what changes for them when their contract is satisfied.

Another outstanding analysis, thank you! You touched on a lot of points that hit home for this Greedy Little F-er 😀. When I was growing up, there was music I liked, but I never felt any personal connection to the band; I'd hear the song on the radio, play the LP, get some tidbits from a DJ, and that was it. Now I feel like I've really become a fan and have a connection to these artists, even if it's mostly one-way. For the bands that are really using social media to connect with fans, like The Warning and Freeze The Fall, it's a real rush to have them reply to a comment you make, and that ties right in to your analysis. For other artists that are mostly posting on Insta, there's still more of a connection and view of them as people.
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
Hey Joe! Thank you for sharing! Yes, social media has definitely added a new layer that can definitely help fans feel more connected to the bands. It's not without benefit. I think artists just need to honor wherever they feel the need to draw the line in the sand. I'm sure it is very different for different people where that line is. :)
@DenisDolisyАй бұрын
Hey Nena ! Thank you for that fantastic analysis ! It was perfect as always, so I've got nothing to add. I agree that this song is an absolute masterpiece. And I think too that it mainly was written by Pau. She always amazes me with her enormous depth and self-awareness combined with that striking thruthfulness and rawness. Little sidenote here, I just watched the 10th anniversary concert again and I'm still amazed that Pau performed "Breathe" although it is very personal to her and she knew it would make her cry, and that she allowed herself to cry and shared that very personal moment with us. I agree that being an artist always means selling oneself out a little bit which is part of the process of getting known. The music industry takes that way too far though, especially in the mainstream genres like pop, where the artists end up being robotic slaves to the industry. The girls have managed it very well to stay true to themselves despite the pressure, which is something I really love. I have a little fear though that they won't be able to keep it that way now they've signed with a major label.The moments when they go completely out of their comfort zone are the big events like the recent EMA's and Latin Grammys where it could be felt that they were doing something that wasn't comfortable to them, even down to the dresses they were wearing. Now to the origin and intensity of the pressure, which is, I think, greatly dependent on the genre and therefore audience. In mainstream/pop the pressure is really immense because the audience and therefore industry want absolute perfection (looks, youth, conformity...). In the case of TW on the other hand, the audience might be quite different and the pressure coming more from the industry and maybe even only standards that have been set by other parts of the industry. I think the real fans of TW are mostly empaths / intuitives / introverts who place much lower expectations on perfection and want the girls to feel well, at least that's the case for me. I don't know other TW fans personally, so it's a bit hard for me to really gauge it (it will be interesting to see what kind of people will be at the concert), so I can only go by what I see online, maybe you have different experiences ? So maybe the amount of content they're putting out out is more than what's really expected from them, because they're following the standards. Of course I love to get personal insights into their life, but I think half of it would be enough and the trend things like dances wouldn't be necessary, I'd rather get fewer but more personal and authentic things from them. How do you think about that ? Have a wonderful evening and Sunday ✨🤗🤗💛💛
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
So many great thoughts here, Denis! I think they are graciously trying to do everything they feel is expected of them, down to the tik tok dances. They are givers by nature. I just worry that it is a pace they can't keep up with in the long run if they want to continue to stay inspired and have at least a little balance in their life. I think they don't want to miss opportunities, though, which I do understand also. I hope that all the things they are doing are because they truly want to do them, and not because they feel pressure from us or the industry. We are with them regardless! :) Take care!

@psychologyofrock They 100% feel pressure in a way that most bands never do, something to keep in mind is if you have a job that you hate no matter what you always have the option of quitting and sometimes just knowing that can get you thru the day. They don't have that option it's the family business not some random co workers at a job, even the non family members of the crew have become like family. There's no 401k/retirement plan building up for them, it's all or nothing. I believe they are getting tired of it all they have been pushed way to hard and that's not gonna stop, I don't believe their parents had any ill intentions but raising kids in front of a camera for the world to see is not good. Thinking your ur self worth is based on views and likes can't be a good way to see the world.

@@psychologyofrock Thank you so much, Nena! I agree, they're givers by nature and try to do everything they feel is expected from them. I share your worry that they won't be able to keep up with that pace long term and it's something that makes me sad. I often wonder how Ale is able to keep up with it anyways as an introvert. I hope though that their strong sense of self will help them find balance and protect themselves from burning out. This actually makes me wonder if songs like Consume and even the whole album could be sort of a message saying that they've realized the situation and that they will be doing something to correct the course, alltough I have the impression that they're doing more than ever, which would make for a pretty mixed message. I'm really glad they have their fantastic team which is a huge support for them and allows them to breathe at least a little bit, even at that pace. Also the familiy aspect and emotional support is likely to be very valuable for them. I agree that they don't want to miss opportunities, which is an absolutely understandable thing but I really hope they don't forget to take care of themselves in the process. I do hope too that they're doing all those things because they really want to but I fear it isn't the case. With some things it can be slightly felt that they're not really into it. I'd tend to think though that they're enjoying most things they do, which is really great. Absolutely ! We are with them regardless ! 😊🤘🖤🖤 Have a nice start to the week 🍀🤗 Take care ✨💛

@@Staysleepslime I feel like you're viewing this through a very personal lens that's heavily influenced by something that's happened in your life. Realistically no one who's famous can simply quit their job both because of legal / contract reasons and also because there's the public pressure to keep continuing. And many famous people are also addicted to their fame, which makes quitting impossible anyways. I don't think the girls have ever been pressured into something by their parents or team. This would be something that could be felt in their beings. I'd rather think they're very lucky to have had such an amazing support system that allowed them to do what they really like. Their parents had the ressources to allow them to live their dream (paying for instruments, travel and so on) and the trust and openness to let them do their thing, which is something really rare. Would you have preferred that their parents forced them to study laws or economics which would have made the girls really unhappy ? I'd have been glad if my parents had only been 5% like theirs, then my life would probably have turned out way differently.

They cuss off camera all the time, They don't do it on camera much because they have had media trading and ur not allowed to cuss on air in most places. The image they show is what they want you to see, they are stuck in the awkward stage of being themselves or showing the world that they are still the little girls that so many fans remember them as. Jojo Siwa just went through this stage a year ago, it was horrible but worth checking out for the lulz. Remember Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus? Some went well some not. Thank God the warning wasn't signed to Disney or something when kids, but they are still going through the transition from child to adult stars. I'll make one prediction someone comes out the closet

First time listeners to some The Warning songs, tend to make the assumption that the band is singing about the industry. At first, it raised my hackles because I had seen interviews and snippets of them talking about their music and I had never heard them specifically bad mouth the industry in terms of the label being manipulative, coercive or what have you (aside from the critics in the song Narcisista). So, I had always wanted to come to their defense. However, now that they are going into their 5th year signed with a label, there is so much more that they have lived and experienced under this contract. There's now no doubt that there could be some grievances and/or push back from all parties involved. The band have and will need to make decisions, choices and ultimately sacrifices. These will surface in one way or another whether in an interview, honest exposé or in the lyrics of their music. I will no longer be overly protective as I believe that these young ladies and their team are strong-willed enough to know how to handle these moments and continue to keep a good head on their shoulders. That''s the hope anyway. Thanks Nena, for yet again a great analysis. They do make you think.
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
Yes, I think they are strong, resilient, and incredibly self-aware. They also have a great support system. With all art comes sacrifice. In the end, I think they are extremely happy with their journey so far. Nothing in life is perfect, but they seem to truly be living their dream.

There is irony not only in those amazingly self-perceptive and critical lyrics, but also in the imagery you have chosen to marry to your analysis. Each of those images and video clips portray DPA as products of glamour which hides the underlying reality you describe. The irony continues for me as well since I was lucky enough to attend the last concert date this year of their tour in Toronto. I was consuming what they have worked so hard to create, to perform and to offer to me as part of the crowd. I am always eager for more, ever more, yet I was profoundly worried for them because of my fear that the tour, the rushed writing sessions for "Keep Me Fed," and their admitted fatigue (Pau said that they were VERY tired as she introduced the final song). Indeed, they had worked hard during their demanding tour to perform - live - "Apologize" in Toronto, which was a very difficult task especially for Dany. Nice analysis that also reflects on all of us whom claim to be fans but who long for ever more and more of what keeps us fed. Indeed, the image of them with which I fell in love was the public professionalism, their craft and their work ethic combined with their charming personalities they have allowed us to see through social media: Nice women who rock! Yes, irony abounds.
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
Beautifully said. It's a complex issue with no easy answers, but I think DPA knows how supported they are by their fans and most likely see it as a compliment (at least most of the time!) that we so deeply enjoy the art they produce as well as their personalities. You said it perfectly - they are nice women who rock. An irresistible combination, I think! :)

As always I concur with your analysis. The Warning are shaping a new style for female bands. A style that makes them not into dancing puppets or female copies of male musicians. The Warning shows us and all the young bands they inspire, that brains can be a part of Rock´n Roll. I think DPA have managed to combine a sense of bad ass with style and I think it is going to change the way female bands are going to be in the future to come. Stylish bad assery ! My first song was money and I too bought the complete package at once. There was a quality and feeling no other bands I have ever heard, managed to display. The image you get and always have got from their social media exposure, is "This is us, you have been warned!" Take it or leave it. I think most bands actually are lacking in the department of being "like their audience" They fly high above them and although the fans look up to them, they worship them far more than they are a part of the artists life. We the TWA get to feel like family, these women welcome us into their inner circle. I think bands who want to make it big has to be more human than a product!

Great choice of song to deconstruct today, solid lyrical depth and musically, in a commercialized space where some have written about “I wanna rock all night and party everyday” or others win Awards with “All the girls are girling, girling” which I'm sure are fun things, and people need some of that. But Paulina demonstrates her sophistication as lyricist, composer, and performer, along with her sisters in writing such insightful cautionary “Warning” regarding some realities without devolving into preachiness. This power trio is headed for greatness.

I think honesty is the point that separates the girls from the rest. And by that I don't mean rediscovered honesty because the wind has changed and you have to go with the times, but honesty from the start. They communicated everything honestly from the beginning, which is why their path was understandable for everyone and remains so to this day. People always deal better with unpleasant things if they have been communicated honestly from the beginning. Others decide to lie to make money and only when the lies are exposed or they are out of the industry, they come up with honest statements (or other lies that sound honest). The girls remain true to themselves, are very aware of their role model function, communicate honestly beautiful and bad things and thus it is understandable and forgivable for everyone when the girls have to make compromises in some things that neither we nor they themselves like as far as the business is concerned. Btw. We are all greedy little f*****s in our own way of life.

Yes I totally agree. Probably they have been conscient that leave to be independent and be in a record label will the demanding circle of the music industry. I'm sure Rudy who knows the industry gave advices. They are aware what they are doing. Now they can do bigger tours, be in more rankings, be part of music awards. They enjoy in part, , there are things that they don´t like, and they want to be honest, so we can be aware too. Perhaps they may need a gap year (with no tour) but they also know that this year and 2025 they need to focus in music industry. In 2020, The Warning signed a five-album deal with Lava Records , and I suspect after that they will develop and own label to be indepent again. I love them, music, lyrics, attitude, etc

I think that social media, and just modern society in general has made it tougher to be in the spotlight. Some people have no respect for an artist's work or their privacy, they want to control the music so it suits them and they want their idol's every move to be public information. I do like when The Warning or other bands I like post an update about a new project or a behind the scenes video. You get to see that they are OK and watch some cool content but it should always be on the artist's terms. I know there has always been paparazzi and demanding fans but today it's amplified. I hope The Warning can look past the bad things in the music industry and be themselves. Another excellent video👍 sorry for the late comment, I had to go to work right after the premiere. Honestly, the one who worries me most is Ale. It's almost as though she was born into this whole thing, starting out as young as she did. I was really struck by the interview where Allison Hagendorf asked each of them what they would like to do if they weren't musicians. Dany and Pau both had answers (teacher and writer, as I recall), but Ale almost seemed confused by the question, as if to say "Why would I think about doing something else? This is what I do," as if she had been programmed for it.
@CraigCholarАй бұрын
@@jeffreygunn3530 If I remember correctly, after appearing a bit flustered by the question, Ale in that interview eventually said being a model could be her career. She must have heard that a lot from people she's met, as in... "Pleased to meet you, Alejandra! Oh wow, you're even more beautiful in person! You could be a model!". In any case, it's safe to say everyone thinks all three of them would have been successful in whatever path they took.
@jeffreygunn3530Ай бұрын
@@CraigCholar Actually, it was oneof her sisters who suggested it. Pau, I believe. Her reaction was something like "Really? You think so?" Uhhh...yes, I think pretty much the whole world thinks so. 🙂 I just thought it was odd, though. She never thought about being an astronaut, or a vet, or whatever this generation dreams of when they're kids? By the time they're her age, most of them seem to want to be influencers on TikTok.

@@jeffreygunn3530 I couldn't find the interview, but I did remember either Dany or Pau prompted Ale, to save her a little embarrassment I assume. I had about two more paragraphs in my original reply about that, but I have a habit of going on and on so I've been trying to self-edit myself. I probably cut out too much! I also thought it was a bit unusual that Ale was caught off guard.

We do know that KMF was their first album where the songs were written as a signed band. Yes, Error was their first album with Lava. But those songs was written when they were an independent band. Their Enter Sandman with Alessia Cara was their first collaboration with another artist. Then all the songs on KMF was collaborated with outside writers. Then they did a Band-Maid collaboration song/video. Everything they done was a collaboration with some other artist. The only time The Warning can be themselves is on the stage playing live to their fans. In my opinion with all the new material The Wrning has done in the last year. Only Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know cover was the closest to a true Warning song.
@psychologyofrockАй бұрын
Hey Kevin! Well, I do think collaborating has led to changes in their music, but I think in the end, it is still exceptionally good music that reflects who they choose to be in this moment. They are master songwriters, however, that certainly don't need to collaborate with anyone. I think that a lot of it came down to a lack of time because they have such a demanding tour schedule. They said that many of these songs had to be written in one day, whereas when they were younger, they had all the time in the world. Given this, they were still able to create an incredible album. Maybe in the future they will find the time to write just amongst the three of them. Time will tell! They have my support either way :)
@EriktheG24818 күн бұрын
I think you were spot on with this. Similar to HYCAD, it points out both the good and bad points of what they experience as performers. It is, in a way, similar to what we all do in our jobs by having to do what we are expected to do by both our bosses and by the customers/consumers who support us by providing a demand for and then pay for the services we provide. It’s just that most of us are not in the public eye like they are. Even your creating these videos puts you in a similar situation to theirs in that you need to create content that we, as your subscribers, will want to tune into and watch. While (I’m assuming) you are your own boss in this, you need to decide what you need to do and you then need to take the necessary steps and put the work in to do it. Other songs, in particular Evolve and Narcisista, also show the struggles they had to experience in their experience as musicians to get to where they want to be. Other songs, like S!CK and Choke, are expressions of the human condition, told from the perspective of someone experiencing them. The Warning have the ability to write the kind songs that other artists that other artists don’t write until they are older and more mature. Not only are they so talented with the instruments they play, they are unique in the music they create which makes their music something to look forward to listening to when I have the chance. (I know they’re not the only band who you can say hat about, but it’s also my personal taste in music that draws me to TW)

A ton of interesting ideas here, especially on “make me be perfect for you”-I hadn’t thought about this referring to fans, but that does make sense. The social media postings have definitely taken an unpleasant tone recently in many ways, and some people have been talking like the sisters are being pushed around by the industry and are no longer in creative control. I think that’s false in general, although the label is more involved than with Error which was mostly written before they joined Lava. But definitely there is a lot of pressure for them now-not necessarily external-they definitely are pushing to be a bigger commercial success and well aware that if the albums don’t perform well the label could lose patience-in general Lava seems to be one of the better places for artists creatively, but the roster there is small and a fair number of bands have been dropped.

I think you're right on the money. None of us can stand apart from consumer culture (well, without going completely "off-grid"); the best we can do is be aware we're part of it and think about what we do. One uncomfortable experiment is to consider how you react to their photos and videos - is it more like you are with friends, or more like browsing for product? I know I didn't like the answer - I hate that the first thing that happens with a photo is my eyes jump to Ale's face, with a sense of it being an object to admire rather than part of an actual human being. Ugh. They don't deserve that, and I don't deserve to have had that habit put in my head; but it's all part of the system. And there I go, blaming the problem - I hate that I'm a part of it.

There was a lot of discussion over Keep me Fed, with many of the original fans not liking the direction the music is going. Many still want their original style and expect the ladies to remain as they were. In my view it seems to me that those fans were unwilling to travel the road with them, but rather keep them on the path they wanted them to travel. I love their older material, but I also love their newer music just as much, but in a different way. I appreciate the skill and talent that has evolved as they grew, I am willing to accept that change and this Keep Me Fed album has been a blast, in fact Consume is my favorite track from the album, it resonates with me. They received a lot of criticism from fans that seem to be unwilling to change with the band and that is sad. Fans should not stifle a bands creativity or force them to remain the same, just because you want them to be what they used to be. The Warning is not the first band to experience this, practically every band and singer throughout history has faced similar backlash. Sure there will be songs that may not appeal to you, but you should be willing to support them and acknowledge their growth and evolving creativity. For me I still feel as if The Warning do not have a single bad song, I love them all, although there is one, Money, that I like a little less than all the others, but it is still a good song.

12:20: In the second verse, “I can’t point the finger at you anymore. I couldn’t die as the martyr, now I’ve become the . . .” I have a theory that they intentionally omitted the word “whore” at the end of that phrase, which would have both completed the rhyme and fit the meaning of the verse. However the next line being “greedy little fcker” basically says or means the same thing, and of course repeating that phrase again makes sense from a songwriting perspective. What do you think?

Interesting theory! It is possible, although I don't think the phrases have the identical meaning. I think “greedy little fcker” makes more sense with what they are trying to convey :)

That missing word may be just a hook to highlight that the focus of the lyrics is taking a turn. The word “martyr” is interesting if you listen to the song Martirio, which appears to be aimed at someone else but could possibly be a self-reference?

Nice analysis. They've always been pretty open that the sort of symbiotic band/audience feedback loop is what keeps them going, so I've never thought they had any illusions on that score. We can all lament "the system"... but at least thus far, nobody has been able to create any workable alternative, so... on we go. I'm not sure how "conflicted" they truly are - nor any of us - beyond feeling perhaps a greater weight of responsibility considering they are now basically supporting about fifteen other people, including their own parents. It's kind of like democracy being the "worst possible political system... except all the others." At the end of the day, waddaya gonna do??

Well said. Like you put it, no one has been able to create a workable alternative. Perhaps in the future, but for now - it is what is is. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I love how the youngest is now the tallest and seems to run the show, reminding Dany mid-show, she needs to change guitars!

In my KZbin lineup of videos are The Warning and Led Zeppelin back to back…rather appropriate I’d say

Yes thank you for this one! Also you got a new mic? 🤩

I have a few different ones that I use, is this your favorite so far? 😊⚡️

Not too sure but all of the mics you’ve used so far have been pretty good imo. Whatever you think is best for your videos will work well! 😁

I latched onto The Warning just as they were presenting themselves to the world on KZbin, and just like a young boy who was enamored with The Beatles, this is the same kind of feeling for me. Yea, I'm a Boomer, one of the old farts who's heard it all, but it's something fresh and genuine to me because these girls almost literally grew up with me. Lately I have really been discouraged by what is happening to the music business, with it's involvement in the near extinction of the band, while at the same time demanding that astronomical prices for singular "mega-stars" such as Taylor Swift, who have helped eliminate the need for supporting 3 to 5 member bands as unecessary expenses to the bottom line, while at the same time producing "empty calories" or music that pretty much all sounds the same on streaming services. My most fervent hope is that these three remarkable sisters resist todays demand that they bare everything in order to feed that pathetic bottom line (think Cyrus and a few others). Till such time, they are a fantastic group of young women who have proven that REAL rock and roll lives on.......

I think that The Warning is a smart band. Would not be surprised if, once they reach a certain level of fame, they start to deconstruct their place in the system, to break the rules, to start making their own rules. Pau is not going to be content with playing an “assigned role” for too long.

I think many of their songs show a tendency to self-reflection that is very interesting, because of their almost unique relationship with their audience that they have developed when they were teenagers. When you look at how often they mention breathing in their lyrics you tell yourself it can’t be coincidence. They have been sharing very much of their lives, feeling the need to be authentic to the audience, to show gratitude for the support, while staying true to themselves, that it must at times feel very hard to sustain. They clearly love what they do and they work hard to be successful, but the hard work to become the product that reaches beyond their hardcore fans is also undermining the bases of what earned them the dedication of their truest following, as they now become grown up women who certainly feel a need for more privacy and more time to fill their batteries. I hope that they will strike a better balance between touring and time for themselves than they had in the past two years, I am worried about their wellbeing. So much of their lives is invested in the band, and they feel responsibilities well beyond what’s normal for their age, and have done so for all their youth. They need to avoid burnout - the title of a song that they have been careful to interpret very differently from the interpretation that their own video is so clearly suggesting. Like breathe, that word didn’t come up out of nowhere.

Do you think having co-writers contributes to the overall meaning of the song? Also, signing with a record label?
@psychologyofrock26 күн бұрын
I don’t think so. I think they are more musical contributors than lyrical contributors, but I could be wrong.
