Tbh even then these lists wouldnt make much sense, a better analogy would be to say that whoever makes these lists care more about spectacle than coherent character / plot development, this show was honestly ruined by it's own fame. People (mainly those who didnt originally watch the show or read the books) associated this series with cool CGI dragons, lots of violence, and softcore sex scenes, and after D&D ran out of actual good scripts to base their episodes off of they just turned to keeping the show true to the conception that the majority of people have held about it and these lists feel like they intend to please that same kind of people. Which is meant to say, the ones who dont understand what is it that made GOT a great series in the first place.

It's tragic how badly this series ended, to the point where all talk of this series has dropped off the face of the earth aside from vids ripping it to shreds and talking about what could have been. Imagine an alternate universe where Martin finished the books and D&D didn't stop caring. We'd be past season 10 by now or even further.

I felt cheated when the Night King was killed, he was basically turned into a nothing bad guy after being THE main enemy from the beginning 😪 A braver ending is what the show deserved, with the main characters losing their plot armour, which they never had until the show stopped pouring from the pages...

TBH one great moment can cover for a lot of mediocre ones the same way one shitty scene can destroy an episode, after all, when you end your watch (lol) the things you remember are the scenes you like the most and how you felt watching them.

It is easy. Because (for later seasons specifically) usually the rest of the episode is so bad, that nobody remembers what even happened in it. For example, when I think about Hardhome, I only think about Hardhome, I have no idea what else happened in that episode...

The best episode was the episode 9 of season 2 with the battle of Blackwater. The CGI of the wildfire was insane. The speech of Tyrion, the hype of the Goddamn Mannis and to see the Hound fighting were gold.

When I watched Game of Thrones for the first time I loved seasons 6 and 7. After basically studying the whole show I can honestly say that seasons 1 to 4 rule and the later seasons don't hold up at all. Also, Watchers on the Wall is my favorite episode.

I remember hating Season 5 and thinking Season 6 was a "return to form". Now I think Season 6 is one of the worst written seasons. Season 7 I thought at the time that it was a mixed bag. I liked some of the stuff like Beyond the Wall and the Dragon and the Wolf but I could see the cracks. Things seemed out of place, the dialogue felt phony and wrong. Season 6 and 7 they doubled down on the budget and the cinematography was fantastic. So they covered their poor writing with lavinsh shots and special effects and action. Like it was big budget Marvel movies. But at the heart of it it's empty.

@@stevem2323 "perfection" Dumb fight choreography that's been ripped to shreds by both arms experts and just regular people in general, a nonsensical time travel trip that serves no purpose and risks Bran's life apparently and teaches Bran nothing of value in terms of his skill in uhm...time travel that he never uses after this point? Ok. You know, dual wielding is only cool if your opponents aren't dumbasses that refuse to stab you in the back when the moment is there. Also, it's just generally a bad idea to do it if you have a shield regardless. But "cool moment shut up brain" I guess is a good reason to like it.

It was great at the time but in the context of the series, it feels hollow. It may be unfair to judge the episode on that but it does make the episode lose points, especially given that the whole episode leaned into setting up future plotlines. For example, Cersei blowing up the Sept and then crowning herself as the ruler feels a lot less impressive knowing it has zero ramifications going forward. The Tower of Joy scene is awesome but that doesn't become a major plot point until Season 8 for some reason. Also even in the episode, some scenes don't make sense. Like Arya killing Walder Frey is cool but it serves no purpose to either Arya's character or the plot. Also, the Frey pies were cool in the books, but they don't really make much sense here other than being shock value. And then in Meereen Danaerys leaves Daario of all people in charge and gives Tyrion a promotion despite him doing a terrible job ruling in her stead. Littlefinger somehow decides he needs to stick around Winterfell even after Sansa turned him down. Jon and Sansa also forget D&D was a thing. It's still a good episode but it shouldn't be in any "best episode" debates.

Hey, I can kinda imagine how you would rank all Seasons, but I would still find it very cool to see you making a video about it. Especially after I just rewatched Game of Thrones. Also, I believe the reason why Winds of Winter is so "loved" is because like u said the dopamine u get from it as well as the feeling and hype the Episode sets for the next season, for example, Daenerys on her way to Westeros...

I think his ranking is fairly possible to figure out from his season analysis. Also I think that you just can't compare some of the prior seasons because they have different themes. As for the Winds of Winter to be honest I didn't really cared about Daenerys plotline. What made the episode good for me was the tower of joy scene and the Great Sept explosion but both of them are flawed because later seasons failed to make consequences for these scenes unfortunately.

I’ll never forget when they released the Watchers on the Wall and The Children on IMAX. It was my birthday week and I told one of my friends, who was almost done with season 4, to not watch the last two and to save them for the IMAX experience. He loved it. So worth it and man I would watch the entire first 4 seasons on IMAX if I could.

Watchers on the wall was the episode that sealed the deal for me, I saw it before rains of caatamere which everyone agrees was an amzing/shocking/brilliant moment. I still remember geeking out about the long panning shot over castle black, and being genuinely confused how no one I spoke to about the show were impressed by that.

@@lolilol535 I agree, season 5 had awesome moments like Hardhome but it destroyed important characters like Littlefinger, Stannis, did some damage to Sansa's character, ruined the Dorne storyline, got Ser Barristan pointlessly and ingloriously killed, gave massive plot armour to Ramsay and turned him into a Mary Sue only to remove that plot armour in season 6. That's just too many bad things about it to make it ok.

Good question. I'd say Little Finger's was more insulting to me personally. He was also my favourite, but that's not the reason. Littlefinger continued to scheme. However, his scheming became nonsensical and laughable, and the last episode in which he meets his end is so appalingly insulting to him as a character, and completely against everything we knew about both him, Arya and Sansa, and all of the scenes where it seemed Arya and Sansa would get in conflict with one another were just bait for the audience. It breaks the fourth wall for no other reason than shock value that lasts a good 5 seconds until the audience's brain starts to function and they realize none of it made sense. Meanwhile, Varys just stops being a character completely for about, I don't know, two, three seasons until the writers remember he is actually still around, and they need to build up Dany as a villain even though she didn't really do anything wrong up until this point, so I guess it's bye bye for Varys. Varys goes out with a fizzle, whereas Littlefinger goes out with a bang. Except it's more like one of those tiny bangs a cherry bomb would make, amusing if you have the brain of a 10 year old but not capable of doing much else. So I guess both suck equally bad but for opposite reasons.

The Spoils of War was great experience to me, esp. with the battle. It was emotionally charged and you had Dany with a dragon finally showing what they could do in Westeros against Westerosy troops. You had two sides going at it that were not good vs bad, so you had people on both sides that you were rooting for so it was interesting to have those two view point. And the final rush sure it may have been stupid for Jaime to do but I am betting nobody was thinking about that. We were finally seeing the Jaime as warrior in battle that we never had, the crazy mad man going for it trying to take Dany out. And it fits his character. That last moment was one of pure euphoria. Him getting saved was dumb but still that whole scene was on another level. The rest of the episode was OK but the whole battles gives it a gazillion points. It's in the same area of Battle of the Bastards.

Honestly, Battle of the Bastards is my fave episode simply bc it's the episode where Ramsay loses and the Starks win plus the cinematography is cool. But yeah, that Mereen battle sucked hardcore. Laws of Gods and Men will always be in my top 3 tho.

Y'all probably gonna disagree but... I think that "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms" (s8e2) is on my top 25. To me, it's clearly by far the best episode in s7 & s8. Maybe for the first time since season 4 I felt so close with EVERY characters (the ones inside Winterfell ofc). But maybe I'm overrating this episode by comparing it with the others from s5, 6, 7 & 8. Anyway let's face it, all the others episodes of s8 are easily in the 10 worse episodes of the entire show (The Lasts of the Starks and The Iron Throne being the very worse IMO)

Not sure how unpopular this is but A Knight of the seven kingdoms to me is honestly better than every S6 and S7 episode aside from winds of winter. It’s not great but it doesn’t have much insanely illogical like with S7 or a bunch of boring, bland scenes like with S6. It has some heart to it and Podrick’s song is beautiful

to be fair to the bells, it is one of the most beautiful pieces of cinematography ever, especially with it being during the day. obviously from a story and plot perspective, its hot cabbage, but the cinematography tricks casuals into thinking its great. i will say, i do find myself rewatching it from time to time because of the visuals

I honestly couldn't rewatch is even for the visuals. For me the bells is the worst episode. Maybe competing with the last episode of the season. But still Daenerys losing her shit over nothing for me was maybe even more irritating than Bran becoming the king because the way all of previous events turned out before the last episode there just wouldn't be satisfying outcome for anyone becoming the king. But the mad queen arc and whole lot of other characters could've been handled a lot better (Jamie and Greyworm being one of the most jarring ones for me) but were ultimately butchered and that led to the last episode being inevitably garbage.

The spoils of war episode: Daenerys who lost almost all her ships, manages to land a hord of 100 thousand dothraki( in Lannister controlled territory) and nobody notices it, no one sees them coming and the Lannisters are still somehow caught by surprise, Dany and Jon's romance starts its "development" simply because they are both hot and young and therefore must imediatly begin falling for each other, the guy from the Iron Bank knows that Cersei's cause is a sinking ship but still decides to invest in her when all he has to do is grab the gold she is reapaying him and then not give her another penny, Brann reveals to Littlefinger that he knows what he is up to and Littlefinger doesn't get out of Winterfell. Ah yes trully a top 3 episode.

I think the problem with a lot of countdowns of TV Show episodes are that they only go on what they remember. That's a problem with episodes like Hardhome, because EVERYONE remembers the battle, it was great, one of the best battle scenes in the show... but people don't account for the rest of the episode, because they either don't remember what happened in it, or flat out don't care. Even in the good episodes like the Red Wedding, yeah, the rest of the episode was good i'm sure, but I can't off the top of my head remember anything else about it. If you told me plot points, sure i'd remember them but I don't associate them with that specific episode like The Red Wedding scene, so to do a proper review of these episodes, I'd have to go back and rewatch them all the way through... and most people I think, can't be bothered to do that.

heres mine: Top Game of Thrones episodes: 1. The Winds of Winter: First of all the start of this episode is amazing, the music is great, and how Tommen and the Tyrells die is awesome. The other scenes in this episode are also good, such as when Arya kills the Freys. 2. Kissed By Fire: In my opinion, this episode has the best scene of the entire show, which is Jaime talking about the mad king and his oaths. The other scenes in this episode are also good. I’d put this episode lower, but it has the best scene in the whole show, which is why it deserves a spot at number two. 3. Blackwater: Not only does this episode have the best battle scene, but with Tyrion motivating the people to fight, this episode deserves a spot at number three. Also, seeing Ser Davos’ son die was great. I know he wasn’t in the show for long, but the bits he was in the show for were very annoying. 4. The Laws of Gods and Men: This episode has one of the greatest scenes of the show, Tyrion’s trial. This also has the part where Ser Davos and Stannis speak to the iron bank which is an amazing scene. I mean all in all, this episode is great. 5. The Rains of Castamere: This episode is the red wedding, and…. Well the realization from Catelyn that something is wrong is good, and seeing Robb and Catelyn die is such a good fucking scene. These were two good characters, and them dying is so shocking, and so great.

These lists show us that people love WTF moments and big battle scenes. I honestly just love characters, dialogues and plots that make sense. Battle scenes are cool, when they serve the plot and make sense. Like you, watchers on the wall is my favorite episode, and season 4 and 1 are my favorites. But when you look at season 1, it has 0 big battle scenes and it's still an amazing season. I remember seeing people praise season 5 and 6 when they came out, and I was like... this makes no sense, this isn't going anywhere anymore. There were some good scenes, some fine episodes and cool plot lines, but overall I felt like this isn't the masterpiece I was used to and that the show had lost its way. And to the people that blame it all on D and D, yeah, they dropped the ball, but the source material they used also wasn't amazing. The siege of Riverrun, the house of the undying, the faith militants, Frey pies, the death of John only to bring him back(guess that's gonna happen in the nooks as well...). So, even the great Goerge R.R.Martin can run out of great and sophisticated ideas.

I think a lot of these people making these lists need to rewatch the series and I don't say that as an insult. Especially Season 6 a lot of the episodes feel elite at the time (especially the last two) but when you deconstruct the episode in the context of the series it falls flat. For example, Wind of Winter was hailed as a masterpiece at the time of its release, and yet if you sit back and deconstruct the episode you start to notice flaws. The Sept blowing up is a great scene but it loses its impact when you realize that Cersei never faces any consequences for her actions. Arya killing Walder Frey is cool but it really has no bearing on the plot going forward and while Frey pies were great in the books, it made no sense in the show. Like even getting beyond the logistics of it, it really serves no purpose other than shock value. Jon and Sansa pretty much forget about Rickon and somehow Littlefinger sticks around in Winterfell after Sansa turns him down. Danaerys just peaces out of Mereen and puts a sellsword who isn't a politician and has no loyalty to the city in charge. Tyrion somehow gets a promotion for messing up all season. The Tower of Joy reveal is amazing but D&D kind of forgot about it because they did R + L = J reveal again in Season 7.

On "The Bells" While I certainly wouldn't rank it anywhere close to number one, I can see why people like it. While the actual, y'know, plot sucks, the visuals and editing are stunning (IE Arya and the Hound's perspectives being shown and transitioned between seamlessly, the look of drogon, etc)
