To answer your question about why this happens to people - this can occur with conditions like psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. Both are inflammatory conditions and doctors don't fully understand what causes either condition, but both can be SEVERELY uncomfortable to experience. It doesn't matter how often you wash your face or how "clean" you are - if you are prone to these types of skin conditions, you can get flare ups. It's not contagious, just an inappropriate response from our immune system. It's possible that certain triggers like stress and foods can exacerbate the response. Hope this helps people understand what causes this and lessen the stigma that it is dirty or gross ❤️.

i’m always nervous to open up about this because of all the negative stigma that it’s dirty/disgusting/gross. started in 4th grade when i noticed flakes in my hair, but my hair is super thick and curly so it goes unnoticed unless i’m having a bad flare up. i thought it was just dandruff for the longest because the flakes were/are generally pretty small and fine, but then it started showing up somewhat on my eyebrows and during rly bad flare ups it would spread past my scalp and into the first centimeter or so of my forehead :( i hate when that happens because it always looks red and irritated bc i can’t help but pick at it bc i don’t want people to see flakes ugghhh. there are a few ways to treat it (i have seb. dermatitis) but in my experiences, and many others, your body gets used to the treatment and you constantly have to change up your medicated shampoo or whatever you’re using. it’s honestly one of my biggest insecurities, but i’m thankful that mine isn’t as bad as others’ :( for those who don’t have it: please stop the negative stigma. we can’t help it, we wish we could get rid of it, and i PROMISE we are clean people.

The reason it's difficult and hard to shave when you have dermatitis is because you scrape off the skin with the razor and that can leave you with blemishes, wounds and it can even bleed! I have dermatitis and I've shaved my head and eyebrows just to try and heal it a little bit... I had to come to a conclusion that it's just something you have to live with. Moisturizing the skin BEFORE removing dead skin prevents irritation AND makes the process easier. 2. Scratching the skin to remove the flakes will cause MORE damage and rip the skin open leading to more breakouts and flare ups. It's a tedious but necessary process. 😔😔😭😭😒😒😭😭😔😔

I have psoriasis, the way that I have treated mine to minimize flare ups, is no scalp scratching, because it can cause your skin to form a plaque. I try to use the pads of my fingers, and if I feel a plaque I’ll moisturize it and seal it with lanolin so it can heal and come off the scalp, face, ears wherever without leaving another scale. I also try to minimize inflammation in other areas.

The first guy has sehborreic dermatitis. I have it too, but I keep it in check by washing my face, exfoliating, applying tea tree oil, and moisturizing. If I don’t, the flakes will start to comeback again. So anyone else who has sehborreic dermatitis I suggest you buy tea tree oil and apply to your face every other day after you give your face a good wash. And a next fact, even scientists don’t know where sehborreic dermatitis comes from- to this day I don’t know how I got it. It just started happening when I was 12-13

I have seborrheic dermatitis and it's definitely not a joke. I got after having my daughter because my body took me through some things. I had leave my beautician because she was trying cut my hair. I research it and went to my dermatologist which was limited help. I did more research and found out what works for me.My oldest daughter understood my pain and help me with growing my hair I had to go natural and I didn't want to but my hair is thicker, longer and healthier. Sew-in is only thing that works for me. I tried braid it literally ate through it and I bald spots. Unfortunately the condition has spread over my body. The face is the hardest because im dark skin and the patches are white. Tea Tree Oil has been a huge help.
