Holly said she doesn’t really remember what she said in the DVD commentary. To be honest you can tell the difference between them in and out of the mansion. Season 1-3 commentary was in the mansion season 4-5 was when they were out and they spill a lot of tea. I’ve rewatched girls next door a “few” times okay a lot and the commentary was one of the best parts of the show. The way the women talked to each other and the input was so well done by all three women.

Way back when this episode aired it was discussed in a Domestic Violence training I attended when I did child welfare. Domestic violence experts discussed that adults had a curfew and how they likely depend on him for money and housing. The curfew specifically was discussed at length as a training tool showing how mainstream and open abuse is. I decided the curfew was made up for plot purposes. Lol. There were several times things triggered my DV spidey senses but I ignored them. Frankly I loved the GND and loved how free your life looked to someone at home with a baby, a mentally exhausting career, and a husband in Iraq. Look they go ice skating! Look they have meals at their back and call! Look they get to go out. I ignored what I could see because I really needed some escapist TV. People did see it. I ignored it for the fantasy and escape. Sorry about that. You got to do what you need to do for your mental health. I walked away from social work because it was very bad for me. I would love to see more, but don't want your mental health suffer.

I think people actually did question “why are these women being treated like children?”, “why do they have a curfew?” most people thought the whole thing seemed strange and had lots of questions, but then everyone involved with playboy/girls next door would get defensive and label those people questioning the situation as close-minded or outdated for thinking it was unusual, which it was

I was 15. I bleached my hair blonde, obsessively used self tanner and would literally starve myself to be thin. I compared myself to them throughout the seasons, I wanted to be “playmate” attractive. My mood began to be determined on how comparable I thought I looked to these women. I would be so anxious and depressed if I thought I didn’t live up, back then everyone (around my life at least) acted like being the playboy “ideal” was the upmost achievement. I thought once I achieved that ideal I would be happy and worthy. I never quite felt that way though.

It'll be fascinating to see how their perspectives have evolved since they all did commentary for the DVD set, and to hear how much she's grown and what sort of solace she finds in Bridge and, on occasion, Kendra's within those shared experiences. To hear what it was like to have a camera team in your room, editing voiceovers behind closed doors when someone's back was turned, what it was like for the dogs, and all the females having to live under severe restrictions in limited places (their rooms). I enjoy both your books (hard copy and audio) and I find sentimentality in GND and Hollysworld S1 and s2 so hearing a commentary for hollys-world and your personal growth journey within doings Hollys-World would be a great next commentary
