Janelle Monáe was probably my favorite when it was revealed she was playing Helen. She and Craig had a lot of chemistry in their flashback scenes that I enjoyed. Favourite character though was Peg, the one stressed out person in world of rich crazies felt so relatable. Her sweatshop reveal was perfect

I personally loved Craig as Blanc. The scene when he dismantles Mile’s original murder mystery game before it even starts had me dying. I also appreciate that Blanc’s character is queer, but it’s handled in a way that doesn’t make his queerness a caricature or a big deal.

For those who don’t know, “Glass Onion” was a song written by the Beatles as a satiric response to people trying to find secret meanings hidden in the lyrics of their previous songs. The theme of the most obvious meaning being the correct one was reflected in this movie. ^-^

@@gFamWeb I would not call the movie predicable, Sure, it’s clear halfway thorough that Miles is the culprit but it’s not revealed if he is the only one or has one or more of the guests helping him till the end Also i thought that Miles would be killed and Blanc would have to actually solve a real murder mystery instead Duke is the person who dies at the party and Andi was killed before the opening of the film and it’s the piecing together of everything up to the current point that is the mystery and experience.

I think Helen burning the Mona Lisa was a really fine line to walk. Initially it made my approval of her dip, but the more I think on it, I think there's a comparison being drawn between the Mona Lisa and Andi. It didn't feel good to imagine the Mona Lisa going up in flames, but that level of disgust and shame and grief is also how we should feel about Andi's murder. Andi was a priceless piece of art, and she was also destroyed by Miles's greed and hubris; it's just that he'll actually be punished for destroying the Mona Lisa.

It’s also arguably comparable to the climate protesters throwing food over at in recent months. In the same way that their protests only got attention due to everyone’s supposed shock and horror about possible damage to the famous paintings, burning the Mona Lisa was the only way to truly cement public opinion about Klear. Miles himself didn’t even realise he would suffer consequences from Helen’s “bitch tantrum” until she pointed that out. Burning the Mona Lisa was probably the best way to kill Klear, and by doing it, Helen likely saved thousands of lives.

While I did like the first Knives Out better for its charm and more classic feel, Glass Onion is a sequel that does stand on its own merits. Watching it a second time around was fun, especially seeing how Blanc and Helen interact before the flashback reveal. My favorite example is when they all arrive at the island and Helen as Andi goes up to Blanc and says “This rich people shit is weird”.

If you watch the end of that shot, you can see Andi/Helen kind of lean in to Blanc, a slight hanging action. I thought it was weird when I first watched it, but now I see it as a hint that something else happened there.

Personally I think the twin sister reveal works because the mystery is still happening, we still don't know who murdered Andi and we see Helen put in the work with her journal amd check off the motives and objectives. It works because it happens right at the perfect moment in the movie where its the final clue for the audience to start piecing tstuff together while we rewatch and recontextualize the events we saw in the first half

I see at as an homage to shows like Poirot and Murder She Wrote (which also got a cameo in Angela Lansbury playing Among us). Both shows frequently had actors showing up as different characters in different episodes through out the seasons.

This movie showed that you can be the smartest person in the room and have all the answers but in the end, money wins. It takes a true disruptor, like Helen, to push until she does something no one wants, like burning the Mona Lisa, to make a change. Miles will go down for the Mona Lisa, a painting, but not for what he did to Andi, because money always wins.

It did hurt watching the Mona Lisa burn, and even though Helen did it for revenge and justice. NO ONE has talked about how that move just saved many lives because of how 'Klear' was about to be exposed to many people very soon. Also at the end when they all turn on him, they'd probably confess to seeing Miles hand Duke a drink he made and knowing Duke died from anaphylactic shock could possibly convict him for Dukes murder. Just seeing him leave Andis house would only help in her case if the mugs they drank out of still had his finger prints on it. But he can be charged for more than just destroying the Mona Lisa. Since he invited people to stay in his mansion which he knew was powered by a dangerous substance and than a fire caused every part of that house to blow up, that's knowingly endangering the lives of everyone there.

Whilst the twin things is a little out of left field, the clues are there. As others have mentioned, people remark at how she's different. Another one is with the initial box scene, she has a towel around her hair. But actually, the main one is Blanc's opening: Among Us. They were literally the imposters on the island.

The other thing about Among Us is that we learn Blanc is terrible at stupid games…and what is in the box? A bunch of puzzles, sure, but he tells Miles the box was full of “juvenile” games. We assume by him saying that that he completed the puzzles, hence why we reject Andi/Helen being the one to give him the box, but you can figure out that he wouldn’t have been good at those puzzles based on those comments.

I think when we see the box being smashed at the start of the movie.. it is also a clue for us that it isn’t Andi…! Helen says to Benoit that her twin sister got all the smarts for the both of them. So for Andi it would have been super easy to open the box as it was meant to be opened, but not for Helen…. :)

While I agree “we couldn’t know about the twin sister” they literally said “it’s like she’s a different person” when they were talking at the pool AND the kept hinting at a big personality change. Also, mysteries are built on hiding clues in the story and revealing them later. I wasn’t really bothered by it. I guessed both “twists” about 1/3 of the way through the movie and still enjoyed it.

Yeah!! Most of the fun of twists is catching the foreshadowing you didn't understand before. The only bad twists are the ones that literally come out of nowhere lol. The only thing that the Helen reveal really changed for the audience was realizing we weren't trying to solve dukes murder or miless murder, but ANDIS.

Yeah. It’s the same for almost every mystery/whodunnit. They will plan a lot of seed but withhold one 1 key information that will connect everything. And the key in this film is: Cassandra already dead. When they revealed that, you can use everything they planned out to deduct who is the murderer. That is not cheap, it’s just the same for every whodunnit.

@@DemonLordSparda At first, we could ask ourselves why Miles sends an invitation to Andie knowing that there was the trial... The simple answer is that the boxes were sent before Miles killed Andie in her home, especially since it was not he who designed the boxes but his employees. Second question, did Miles admit that it wasn't Andie? The answer is yes, but if he starts shouting you are not Andie, he would be suspect in the eyes of the others! In the meantime, he kills Duke because he understood with the Google alert that Miles was a murderer because he saw him leaving Andie's house at high speed (in a car that was not discreet), then he takes advantage of Duke's gun to try to kill Helen so that she doesn't discover the truth and doesn't find this famous napkin! It's perfectly logical! At the end when the detective explains to everyone who she is, Claire, Lionel, Andie, Peg, Whiske ...are surprised, but Miles is surprised to see her alive, understands that it's over and understands then that Blanc was there since the beginning with this famous Helen and that he invited himself via the mystery box that Helen had received via a deliveryman at Andie's house .... He is so stupid that he has not been able to stick the pieces together since the beginning! Indeed Miles is a big idiot because unable to plan and erase his tracks himself, he only stole the idea of Duke's allergy and White's idea (when he tells him after the game, it's like putting a gun on the table and turning off the light) and hence White's reaction when he says "it's stupid" because the detective was expecting a complex case, but in the end like the metaphor of Glass Onion, he just had to look at the center, the most obvious one!

One of my favorite things about the movie is that we are literally told by Benoit Blanc several times hat his weakness is "dumb things" and that Miles doesn't make sense as a suspect because he isn't an idiot so it makes sense why the entire case confuses him because he expected an intelligent adversary.

In regards to editing: I actually think this movie used the editing less and with more intention for storytelling then Knives out. When things were happening in real time they were unedited. Miles handed Duke the glass, Blanc called Helen by her name before she was shot, and she also was speaking in her southern accent then too. In regards to the twin sister twist, I think it was plot necessary for the structure of these movies. Just like what Knives out gave us when Marta was being questioned and we were brought back to the Birthday party and saw and truly happened. They take a regular “who done it”, then tell you who is doing what this whole time and why, so you are put into a completely different type of mystery, and you are STILL trying to figure out the “who done it.” Loved both movies and this was a crazy roller coaster of a ride.

Knives Out is one of my favorite movies ever and i truly adore it, it's brilliant and incredible. perfectly directed and written. Which is why I was really scared that the sequel won't be able to match up to the high standards. I'm so happy it managed to do so. It's not better than Knives Out, the storytelling was still unique AF but different than the storytelling Knives Out gave us. I loved it and the twists i didn't see coming, it really played with my brain. Also, the cast was brilliant!

I loved Janelle Monáe and Kate Hudson in this movie. I love the art of hiding the culprit in plain sight. I'm glad you noticed that he handed the glass to Duke. They gave a lot of hints about Andi not being Andi. They consistently said she felt like a different person (Benoit Blanc accidentally calling her Helen etc). I was able to figure that twist and Miles being the culprit. In some cases I think this movie is more cleaver then the original. Like the clues here were a lot less manipulated by editing (Like the you vs Hugh reveal in the first film)

If you watch it again, the movie telegraphs the Andi/Helen reveal right at the start. She is the only one that didn't solve the puzzle box. Also, Benoit Blanc is playing Among Us in the bath, and he is the Imposter. This sets up that there will be an imposter on the island, and there is something off with Andi.

Some fun details I wanted to bring up (even though I'm sure others have done so already): 1. (As mentioned in the vid) During the chaos of the lights out scene before Janelle Monaes character is shot, Blanc calls her "Helen", not Cassandra 2. Andi and Helen AS andi, wear their hair parted on different sides 3. The beauty of Helen beating the shit out of the box in the beginning is that Miles made an exceedingly complicated box that we spent the entire opening watching 4+ people solve, only to have someone solve it the smartest and simplest way -- just break that sh*t open. My girl really said "what's the best way to open a wooden box? A hammer". Our first hint at the lengths Miles goes through to look smart while actually being an idiot And 4. The Mona Lisa was not a famous painting UNTIL its theft, which made international headlines. Because of the coverage, it became known as "the most beautiful painting ever painted" -- not because of its own display of technical skill, but because of a act of thievery. Poetic, then, that this is the painting Miles is the most enamored with~ (Please add more Easter eggs if you know them!)

the breaking of the box is somewhat more complicated than that... yes, Miles might be an idiot, but the complexity of the box holds a meaning... it's a product, a piece of design, there's craftsmanship behind it. Andi would have appreciated craftsmanship, Duke too, Birdie would appreciate flashy trinkets which the box is, Lionel and Claire would appreciate the puzzle behind it... but Helen? she's not into that... for her, that's just a wooden box with a question mark. the gang respects Miles's fine taste, but Helen doesn't know Miles, she has no reason to respect him!

Glass Onion was a Beatles song and album, specifically making fun of people trying to go line-by-line for the real or hidden meanings of their songs. It's a glass onion because you can spend hours going over everything in detail, only to end with the simple truth that was out there the whole time. Love how the movie ran with the concept!

The editing of certain clips, was in the first one as well to throw us off remember the “Be-after-fore” plus I’m glad they’re not following an equation. It’s gets boring and predictable that way. Murder mysteries are meant to be hard to figure out. Though the one thing the did was pull a twist in the middle of the film. Just like in the first.

I don't think the editing was unfair. The sequence where we learn Andi is really Helen is quite long - it's not a 30 second reveal or anything, so you still have time to factor that into your guess at "who-dun-it" before the denouement and reveal.

Just to clarify Glass Onion is not the official sequel to Knives out. It’s a fun spin off movie made to expand on Benoit Blanc. That’s why it’s a Netflix movie. And has no theater ralease. Knives Out 2 might come out in the future or maybe will get a couple more a noir Blanc Movies. Either way I’m glad This is one of the best role Daniel Craig has done. He is a joy to watch😂

i really liked that they bring back the disruptors thing near the end cuz (spoilers0 When One of them is breaking the glass sculpts, the others joined in as a way to rebel against Miles cuz they hated him but didn't want it to go past the point to where he'd be taken down. They rebelled against the system but didn't want it burnt down cuz they're all phony disruptors. Great films, i like it more than the first for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one and I loved your enthusiasm through the watch. You mentioned not knowing much about the genre so I'd like to suggest Murder By Death (1976). Someone invites some of the worlds most famous private detectives to their home to solve their death. You get to meet all the varieties of detectives that famous authors have already created. Definitely kinda meta ahead of its time, especially with the homeowner played by none other than Truman Capote(!). Even if you don't do an official posting, I hope you try it on yer own time.

I am so glad that I was able to solve this before anything was revealed. I will admit that I had to go back before anything was revealed, even before the twin sister thing was revealed, and watched the drinks scene again. However, when I saw the clues that I was looking for, I solved it lickety split. I noticed him giving him the drink, Blanc calling her Helen and inbreathiate not being a word the first time, but I didn't notice him taking the gun or the phone until I reviewed it.

I love Glass Onion. It was fun figuring out how things were put together, rather than revealed. The first time I watched it, I knew who the killer was after we got Helen’s story reveal. Because I remembered the conversation the group had at the pool, as well as everyone’s arrival on the island. Something about the reaction to “Andi’s” appearance didn’t sit right.

One of the things I think is incredible about this movie is Helen and the Mona Lisa. At the very last scene she's posed just like the Mona Lisa, and when Miles was talking about it and said you can't really tell whether she's smiling or frowning. Right after Duke said Helen was the loser, her lips twitched and everyone assumed she was mad because she lost the argument, but when it shows the same scene again, you realize that she's smiling because she really won. Also the whole part when Miles is talking about disruptors, "break something that everyone wants broken but then keep going when no one wants you to" is perfect for the end scene when she breaks the glass and keeps going until the Mona Lisa is gone. The Mona Lisa, which not even the audience wanted broken.

I don't really understand what's unfair about Andys editing, the movie actually is incredibly clever in that on rewatching you can see various reveals that somethings up, her hair being in a towel in the first shot, her accent slightly breaking when she gets mad etc. Personally I loved this movie, I love Knives Out slightly more but in terms of quality I'd say they're equal movies. I don't think at all the original should have stood alone as murder mystery franchises are one of the few that actually lend themselves well to the sequel stand alone story format. The fact that these movies are also all original stories that are bringing in audiences is incredibly important to keep such things alive in Hollywood. We need more original scripts point blank so we're not stuck with remake after remake so I say thank God these exsist!

Something I noticed the second time I watched it is that Lionel said something like "after getting the envelope you didn't even burn it" to Miles and the next scene Miles burns the napkin the camera shows Miles smiling to Lionel and Lionel's face realizing Miles did what he said, like even after being called out by Blanc he is still being an idiot and stealing people's ideas! He is an asshole and I love that they kept showing that in the movie.

I did enjoy this sequel, Craig and Monae were amazing as I expected, and Hudson's character had me cracking up. But I do prefer the first one, simply because of it's timeless feel. Glass Onion definitely feels a little more dated to me, with references and certain characteristics of the characters. Also, I feel you on the "we didn't find out until halfway through". It reminds me of when I read my first Christie novel (The Mysterious Affair at Styles) and some of the clues were kept away because the detective wasn't the narrator. Knives Out felt more like a mystery I could figure out, whereas this one didn't because we had to wait halfway through for the clues. That being said, this was still a well-acted, well-shot, and still pretty well-written movie, and I will definitely watch it when I'm craving mysteries.

Miles was such an idiot and so cheesy. He was a really good amalgamation of Elon Musk, Bankman Fried and Elizabeth Holmes etc. The visionary that's also a bit of a con artist. The nonsense words that were coming out of his mouth had me cracking up. The attention to detail was impressive. There were so many clever little clues hidden, often in plain sight. Loved it.
