Mario Duplantier is one of metal’s most creative rhythmic and technical drummers. His polyrhythmic line in “The Art of Dying” has stumped most fans, proving to be one of the hardest pieces to count and cover. While Mario’s right hand remains in 4/4 on his ride cymbal, his right hand hits the snare in groups of three and five at 21/16, while sometimes switching to 2/4. Simple, right?!

If your time signarture starts with 42 you might be a Duplantier.

His right hand isn't in 4/4, it's simply playing quarter notes. The entire section is in 21/16. It's whack, but that's odd metres for you.

What you said about about Joe's vocals being raw but high quality is absolutely true. So many metal vocalists go out of their way to try to sound scary, which sometimes ends up just sounding silly because it distracts from the song, from Mars to Sirius onwards Joe's vocals have sounded much more natural and like he's screaming/growling as a human being instead of a demon or monster, and in a way that serves the song as a whole. A very confident and mature direction imo. Also, I've listened to this song a lot already and never thought of bagpipes until you suggested it. Good pick up, and it does sound like something they'd do.
@deadtotheworld003 жыл бұрын
It's less trying to sound like something and more about what technique you employ. Different techniques create different tonal qualities and with harsh vocals the tonal quality is very easy to differentiate.

I've seen a few reactions to this song at this point, but I wasn't really into it and it wasn't til this one that it actually "clicked" with me. And it wasn't really that it earwormed and grew on me, but this time around I noticed production and writing nuances I hadn't heard the first couple times around, some of which you pointed out, some of which I heard on my own (the instrumental differences in the last chorus for example, the added synthy bits create this sort of uncomfortable pulling effect). I recommend everyone out there closing their eyes and giving this a solid listen on their own after this vid. Also that drummer is nasty, hot damn. And thanks for pointing out the bass adding so much, I'm not a bassist myself but I love love love when the bassist has dynamic range in a tune. Have a damn good day everyone.

I wasn't sure on the 1st half of this track the first time I heard it. Felt a bit soft, rock/thrash and the transitions were clean but hard... But the more I listen to it the more it's becoming an anthem of a song. It's also like someone mashed up their last 4 albums in to a single song... But with the bass equaliser on max.
