"A band is only as good as the drummer" Mario is world class - he has some masterpieces. If I'm not mistaken, the majority of Gojira songs actually start with the drum work - Mario brings something amazing to Joe, they collab a bit, bring in Christian and Jean-Michel and magic happens. But Mario is the main root of the band, he's phenomenal & great stamina (see Where Dragons Dwell live Hellfest for an example). So stoked you're adding Gojira to your playlist!

Here's my go to list for anyone new to listening or reacting to Gojira - go feast, you won't be disappointed. Gojira and Jinjer sit atop the metal world for me. 3rd album: From mars to sirius - The heaviest matter in the universe (very heavy) - Flying whales (Gojira's signature track) - Where Dragons dwell (youtube: live at hellfest 2013 - a MUST see!!, don't miss out on this reaction) - Global warming (youtube: live studio) 4th album: The way of all flesh - Toxic Garbage Island - The art of dying (legendary track) - Vacuity - Wolf down the Earth / or / esoteric surgery 5th album: L'enfant sauvage - The gift of guilt (live Brixham academy) - L'enfant sauvage - Born in Winter - Explosia 6th album: Magma - Stranded - Silvera - Pray (live at red rocks only) - The cell / or / shooting star (live at bbc) 7th album: Fortitude - Born for one thing - Amazonia - Sphinx - New Found 2nd album: The link - Embrace the world - Indians - Rememberance (live at Link Alive) 1st album: Terra incognita - Space time - Lizard skin / or /clone - Love (from 'link alive' ideally) / or / Blow Me Away (You)niverse

That’s crazy cause I just saw Gojira a couple days ago and I’m about to see Jinjer in a couple weeks
@scottmorey62123 жыл бұрын
@@givenspade awesome! I only discovered Jinjer during lockdown but they're my favourite band, Wallflowers is stunning. Not brave enough to go to another gig for a while. Gojira 2019 was my last - tightly packed, I came out of venue & literally ringed out my t-shirt to get everyone else's sweat out of it before I went home, it was sodden. I can't fathom that in a post-covid world! But what a band, so good live. I was right at the front & Joe was intense but couldn't help smiling when he made eye contact with us - it was clear they were enjoying themselves. Enjoy Jinjer! 🤘
@givenspade3 жыл бұрын
@@scottmorey6212 thanks dude! I've only been to two shows before Gojira and both were at huge seated arenas so this was really different for me to be right up close to the band like that. I was a couple interactions with Christian during the set which was awesome. Knocked Loose opened for them and they were *heavy af*. So after that experience I'm extremely excited for Suicide Silence and Jinjer!

12:00 I find this a highly interesting remark because they’re actually only playing the harmonics of that base D note (So, D, A D, F# etc) which to our ears should sound harmonious and not dissonant at all, but then once the harmonic series drifts out of the western scale (harmonic 7th is 31 cents flat of regular 7th) I guess it has the effect of sounding dissonant.
@jordanjoestar8839 Жыл бұрын
Good clean vocal song from them- "The Shooting Star" Good heavy song from them- "Art of Dying", "Heaviest Matter of the Universe" or "The Way of All Flesh" Id argue they have no bad songs, one for every mood.

This song came out at a perfect time for me... I was engrossed in a story that permanently left an extremely deep emotional mark on me (and fundamentally shifted my own approaches to story writing). I'll forever link Born for One Thing with that moment, it almost fit perfectly with the tone and theme of that story. Very few pieces of media leave that kind of impact... But that's not to disparage most media (I'm no cynic, I'm no elitist). I've probably waited for a good moment to write those thoughts, and I thank ya for checking out what is a fantastic track by one of the modern day legends of metal and rock.

Just found your channel, love your insight! I wanted to dump my take on the story within the music video; I hope someone gets something out of it. So the lyrics essentially talk about how we're running from our fear of death, distracting ourselves to avoid confronting it, like taking a pill to numb the panic. The music video to me seems to represent humanity as a collective, represented through the shapeshifter. It shows how humanity is running away from death, only to reveal that the harder you run from death, the sooner you meet its embrace. Death persues, and death is the destination. Our job in this brief moment of existence given to us is to tame our fear and live while we have life, to stop and witness the beauty around us (great idea to use a museum as the setpiece) instead of trying to outrun the inevitable.

Another great video! Love discovering these bands along with you. Also, if you've never seen Avi Kaplan, he just released a new video called "First Place I Go." I'd love to see your reaction to it. Not my usual genre (as it's more blues, soul, country, gospel) but I love his deep voice. I know you like female singers with deep voices like Adele and Miley, and men with high voices like Bruno Mars, but for me it's nice to hear men in the lower register!
